From my local paper- Rivers says he had no relationship with Franklin

That is not all he said...looks like he will be playing Will at VaTech...and he also seemed to click better with the staff....came out and said he was immature when he initially committed. We gave it a shot...time to move on.

He actually did say that. And it's comical because that's literally the opposite of anything that's ever been said about James Franklin.

Kid should shut his mouth about PSU from here on out.

“They were always like pretty much in my back pocket and I just wanted to have a backup plan until coach Foster and coach Fuente really started to, you know, hammer me a little bit,” Rivers said of Virginia Tech on Monday, nearly 24 hours after making his decision public via Twitter and nine days before he’ll sign his national letter of intent."

If you read that, basically said he was going to VT all along. These kids are forced to talk and talk....and then people hang on their every word. He also said he has been visiting VT every other weekend (presumably for his GF). Tough to overcome as he obviously would be very comfortable there.

He broke his word, he knows it and if he's a decent kid he probably feels guilty. So if he can blame somebody else he can feel better about what he did. It's not the end of the world.

A few current players and those leaving early feel the same about Franklin.

Not everyone has the same perception of the man.

Glad he is our coach but there are some issues that he needs to work on.

Which current players?

Most likely this kid will end up being a bust!! He should just keep his mouth shut for awhile!! CLASSLESS

Yeah - relationship with coaches - that's the ticket!

imo, kid was a bit of douche... sorry, you do not know ur leaving and wait until 8 days before signing day to say you were going back with your old GF and then try to sell it as your old GF just came back into your life and blah blah blah. Wish him well enough but I can't help but think the lack of a relationship with Franklin had more to do with rivers...more to the point, the coaches saw the writing on the wall long ago and have been planning for his departure. Why bother chatting up the lad when he's eyeballing another cutie?

What would have been more interesting is VT does not finish strong in 16 and have so much back next year. Let's just say that I doubt if they did not have huge upward mobility for 17 that I doubt he gives his old GF a second glance. But hey, the dress looked purty so there he goes.

Next MAN up.

This statement from the article: "Rivers said he kept his conversations with coaches from Virginia Tech and Penn State to a minimum during this past season in order to focus on his senior year".

Then he blames Franklin for not building a relationship.

Hilarious.

The Sherando standout is looking forward to playing for head coach James Franklin.

“Coach Franklin is a very good recruiter and he cares a lot about his players,” Rivers said. “He’s energetic and fun to be around. In my opinion, he’s one of the best coaches in college football.”

Although there is over 15 months until signing day for Rivers, don’t expect him to change his mind.

“I’m 100 percent committed to Penn State,” he said. “I’m not going to be in contact with any other schools or talking to any other coaches. And I won't be visiting any schools other than Penn State.”

What about all the others that came back. Does this also mean Urban doesn't even know who is on his team since so many go early to the NFL?

Dylan "Sewage" Rivers needs to stop trying to convince himself he did the right thing. No you broke a commitment and your parents are just as bad coming up to HV this weekend to deliver the news in person. Kid just has no class.

I belive he does not want "people" to think he just followed his GF. If he did, so what? Maybe THAT was the decider. But in the world of sports, etc - never admit that you decided YOUR future because of your GF. I really do wish him well, he is a kid that maybe should have better ADULT guidance. Not to pick PSU, but to keep your word, or move on with some dignity. That is not the case here.

Even though my post last night was deleted, I called it right,

This kid ought to honor his word.

nothing says class like ripping a kid who decided to play somewhere else. Is it late in the game? yes. Does it suck for Penn State? Yes. Does it suck that the GF played a huge part in this? Yes. There are other factors as well on both sides.

So lets go and rip on a 17/18 year old kid. My god you are like jilted lovers who show up at a 25 year class reunion with an ax to grind.

And next year when a kid is debating to play of us or Pitt or Ohio State. There will be posts about how bad those fans are at the schools that are giving a kid crap. See L. Wade and what people on here said about Pitt fans. Apparently Penn State fans are no better than other universities.

Also this is a damn business that puts the "student"-athlete at every disadvantage once they sign on the dotted line because the NCAA is a bunch of DH's.

Who cares where Rivers goes, who cares where the next kid goes. Who cares about Franklin, Paterno or what not. Penn State is bigger than any one individual. Stop pissing and moaning.

as i as saying.. kid is a bit of a douche (and yeah, i'm big enough to say it to his face lol)... enjoy VT.. hope ur GF doesn't abandon ship as easily as you... lmao.

I agree. Rivers brought his GF to campus to meet CJF and she thought highly of him to post this on twitter. Too bad he just didn't tell it like it is. He's on the VPI campus every other weekend to see his girl and wants to keep it that way.

What I find funny is that he mentioned that he had absolutely not relationship with Franklin! Like that is the absolute opposite of what each and every recruit and their family has said about CJF. CJF takes the time to build a relationship with each and every recruit that PSU recruits. Anyways, if he wants to go to VT, then sure, have at it.. no problem there as this is a business. But I wish he would have manned up and either not blamed CJF or just said nothing at all to the media. Its still his decision on how he wanted to word things and I give him props to build the courage to come to PSU and give the coaches the news himself. So good on him for that. Wish the kid well and hope he does well at VT. It sucks for us, but don't worry, we have bigger fish to fry now.

Building relationships takes effort from both parties. In this article he states he limited contact with PSU during the season, yet made every other wknd trips to Blacksburg at the same time. He had a plan and should own it.

I haven't seen anyone else mention it yet, but it seems as if the high school coach was pushing Dylan towards VT the whole time, even after his verbal to Penn State. Not going to dig the quotes out from the article but they are certainly there, and with just a little reading between the lines, the head coach shows similarities to Wimbush's high school coach.

Gosh...no sleep over invitation from coach..... evenings joking in the tree house counting fire flies.... darn. lol

He's clearly a very immature kid

Guess what - he's 17/18 years old........he's SUPPOSED to be immature

That's that

"Youth is a disease....but it can be cured"
And at 17.5 years of age... He has a GF at VT that he was seeing every other weekend... He is a kid... Immature like many at that age... Hooebthebrelatio ship lasts... LOL !

Good luck to him in any event...

This is my first post EVER about any commit or de-commit, but when he took the parting shot at CJF, I felt the need to speak.

Some kids get bad advice -- from their parents, from their high school coach. It's like this: high school romances often don't last. Anybody who has been to college knows that. His parents/teachers/coaches should know that. No. 2 -- chances are, your high school friendships aren't often your lifetime friendships. Anybody over 40 ought to know that. No. 3 -- there's such a thing as doing the right thing. Committing to a school as a high school junior and then throwing it over two weeks before signing day is not doing the right thing. No. 4 -- the shot at Franklin is just something that didn't need to be said; sounded a little bit defensive to me. And while we're at it, let's stop making excuses about the behavior of kids in their late teens; they're old enough to know better.

No. 5 -- I believe in karma.
