searched twitter for an injury report and didn't find anything. any word ?

this tweet was posted after the game

seemed to be ok in it, but not sure when the picture was taken.

Like most, I presume, I think it was a rib injury. Bruised ribs are extremely painful and limiting. I had a QB who was originally diagnosed with fractured ribs and subsequently was seen by a specialist who read the xrays and did not believe that to be the case and cleared him to play. I'm sure technology has improved by leaps and bounds since then.....but my experience is that ribs and diagnosis can be tricky.

Holland and Pancoast had about the same number of snaps vs Indiana. I would imagine they would also split time vs Northwestern. If Gesicki is out, I would also guess Moorhead puts in a new package to run on one or two possessions either without a tight end, or an unbalanced line with another lineman.

Doesn't look like he has pads on either. Just holding the helmet and watching.

Biggest indicator is when JF was asked about him he stated the usual "I don't discuss injuries". If He was fine franklin would have said he was fine and not batted an eye. The fact he when into his normal spiel at least tells me he is questionable going forward.

For some reason I don't see Moorhead bringing in additional linemen given their struggles thus far.

Id be shocked if they didn’t start Holland at TE and give MG 2 weeks of rest. I’d expect Mike to dress though in the event the game is close in the last few minutes and he could at Least come in for a few plays or serve as a decoy

Bingo. He'll likely be available if he's needed, but I would venture a guess that he won't be used unless it's absolutely necessary. That's just my opinion, though and I've known to be wrong from time to time, to time and time again so.

I'd expect him to sit out this week, rest up during the bye and come back for Michigan.

The long term rest is the smart play especially if u aren’t 100%. We have other weapons this is not OSU or Michigan. We will make adjustments and it will be fine.

Seems MG has been a decoy in B1G play with 5 catches for 25 yards against Iowa and 3 catches for 19 yards (albeit injured for half the game) against Indiana. I'm confident the 2nd/3rd string guys can match that production and block just as well (if not better). Hopefully PSU doesn't need him and he can take the next two weeks to heal and be 100% for scUM!

If you've ever had serious rib injury you already know how painful and physically restrictive they are. I doubt Gesicki plays any snaps on Saturday. Maybe JoMo will put Juwan Johnson or Irwin Charles in as a slot TE in a four WR set or have an extra O-lineman like Menet line-up as a blocking TE. I don't know if our back-up kids in the position are anywhere near being adequate as fill-ins for Gesicki.

Agree. This week’s super bowl isn’t the same as a few coming up.

Juwan Johnson is a big dude. He could step in to Gesicki's shoes for a game. Don't think the Lions will need Gesicki in order to prevail in Evanston, anyway. I agree with many here who have said Franklin should hold Gesicki out and have him ready for Michigan.

Do you think a guy who is not participating in practice through Wed is really going to play in a game on Saturday?
Don't think so.

probably right...but anyone who thinks that we won't need him are making a mistake...rain, windy, sloppy weather...tight end would be big.

Kyle Snyder won a national championship with both of his ribs bruised, and wrestled THE NEXT DAY. TWICE.

Yes it's painful, which is why elite level athletes, if they can, take a shot, and then compete. Whether it's morally correct or right, is another discussion, but often it comes down to the choice of the athlete, if the coach allows this. It all depends on the philosophy of the program.

It most likely will be necessary, and he'll have two full weeks off to get well after this one. As Keith Conlin said, "we need this one".

We don't know the extent of MG's injury. Bruise or fractured (cracked)?
Not only that, but there is no exact school of thought for how long such an injury means a kid might be out: You hear about some kids who miss a month, other kids who are out 2 weeks, and then some kids who play on it the next week. Franklin rolled out the shell game this week in practice for sure, if we don't know, then Fitz don't know, and that's always a good thing.

According to Frank Bodani, word is that Mike G. "is ready to roll."

lol....makes the doctors sign a pledge...."okay, you can treat the kids, but you can't tell them what the diagnosis is"

i think HIPAA takes care of that. unless the player gives permission any medical information on condition would be off limits.

The chasm between 88 and 89 is, let's just say, quite large.

yep - Holland is still pretty far off, and the other guy #89 is really far off. our #2 was to be Bowers, but his status is unknown - hurt last year. Dalton was highly touted as a FR last year, but we have not seen him. TE is not a position that can tolerate and injury. MG played today, but was near invisible.
