Greg Kerkvleit transfers to Penn State

I just want to know where Iowa is getting all this money for their transfers. ADS, Teasdale, Eiermann. Pat Lugo transferred in a couple of years ago. Who in the hell is paying for all of those guys?

We are. We are swimming in so much cash it's getting boring. The slush fund set up a "make the Big 10 more competitive fund" and is sending off money to other programs just so we can be challenged more. Iowa had such a strong history but had fallen off so much, they got most of the money for a couple of years. Expect more to flow to tOSU for the next year or two :)

Nothing since Suriano for Rutgers? They need more help than NS if they want to be a perennial top 10....

These decisions are not easy for the high school kids and their family. I get what is being said here, but anyone that thinks; (1) who's already in a room, or (2) who's committed, doesn't factor into the decision is for MOST wrestlers is misinformed. A DT or a Bo or a Jason, even a Kirkvliet may not consider it, but most do. We're blessed to have the circumstances we have at PSU.
In the world of partial scholarships, we do not even know the specifics of any wrestler's situation. For all we know Kirkvliet is coming to PSU for very minimal money with the caveat that it will increase if he wins the spot. If enrolling for the spring, there can't be too much money available at PSU or any school for that matter at this time. Money is freed up when guys graduate or transfer out. If Kirkvliet is comfortable with that situation, why would Cael say no?

heard a little rumor myself--a 125 that is tearing it up this year so far, as a RS--maybe we are talking the same, maybe not--time will tell

Did Cassar not do enough to “ win the spot” over Sheed?
We have our thoughts but they matter not, Cassar, or Verk, Pipher, etc could win 3 of 5 wrestle offs, and if C3 thinks the other guy is better for the team, then by god, he’s gettin it.

Edit: no offense intended Lyons, not even sure why I replied to you.

I know bopper1988 is a super valid source. He broke Nick Suriano to Rutgers (and in great detail including that they would be able to bypass the B1G transfer rule) way ahead of time.

He also I think shared that Nick Lee beat Cortez 14-1 in wrestleoffs. We'll obviously not be able to confirm that but based on how Lee vs Cortez wrestled in 2017-2018, that seems super believable.

I'm sitting tight ...

Don't believe there's anything to defend. A coach's job is to get the best people available and to win under the rules. Being recruited over is fan speak, totally made up. Every athlete knows they have to bring their best just like in a job situation or they can be replaced. I only see this brought up by fans of wrestling, not other sports.
I didn't know that you have a sense of humor.

Jake Ferri bet Luke Werner this year ... and is redshirting!

Ferri also went 14-19 as Kent State's starter last season. I don't see any current redshirt 125s this season (outside of Arujau, which would be a cruiseliner type shocker) that would be an improvement over Teske. There are a couple of 133s if they could drop to 125 that would be intriguing.

Iowa is finally catching on. It took them long enough.
The whole thing is a version of the Dan Gable model. The only thing PSU leaves out is the in state tuition for out of state residents.
Cael just uses the Gable model better than Iowa does.

Werner would be an upgrade over Teske (he beat him 15-0 last year) but probably no implications for big duals (Lee would TF or pin him like he would Teske) or B1Gs/NCAAs.

Grip is over there calling them out for it ... right?
Oh Jeffy you are the best and thank you for proving my point.
Now the Kerk transfer I fully expected when KS sailed and anyone that thinks one is not connected to the other is wrong. That said KS did what he thought was best for his wrestling his family and lets not forget his pocket. If the result of that was getting another top recruit then well played PSU. If you think for a minute you or anyone on this board would not be complaining if the rolls where reversed you are nuts. I personally think he is R12 at best right and Seth beats him out next season.

I'm not sure I can agree with this yet (other than the Arujau point). Werner beat Teske 15-0 last year. And there are 2 true freshmen that it may be too early to say -- Cannon and Raimo.

Yah, I forgot about Werner. He had a solid record but still didn't qualify last season.

Was the last sentence necessary? You guys weren't even discussing Kerkvliet's abilities, just felt the need to add it in because a kid made the best choice for himself right?

AJ Nevills pinned big Cass in 28s at U23 trials. Kerk then tech’d AJ 10-0 (his 4th such score in the tourney), before beating Wood 2 matches to none to make the team and eventually (and controversially) place 5th in the world as relative young ‘un growing into the weight. Now he’ll train with 3 gold medalists, and last year’s NCAA champ, and “some other guys.” All the while worrying less about his deadlift #s. I think he may exceed grip’s expectations.... But I’m not counting Seth out, so maybe not.

Either guy is gonna be AA, to suggest “R12 at best” is stupid even for Grip
