Gross vs Meredith

Hats off to Gross! He weighed in at 133 and gave Meredith everything he could handle. Meredith's winning TD in 3rd period came off of a good Gross attack. It would be great if more wrestlers would wrestle up like Gross did. Gave up 8 pounds and it was a close match!

Thanks for all the updates pawrestlers -- it's great that non-conference fans can get up for this dual. Of course, Gross was a good catalyst for that.

Great match, both guys showing off some next level scrambling. Lots of respect for Seth Gross for even considering it. Not many guys would consider doing that in a year where it looks like they were going to coast through March undefeated.

he weighed in at 133.0 so he could wrestle on sunday at 133. Good on him!

Fantastic match -- and also a great example of the context behind duals mattering.

Duals matter for the fan experience. Gross and Meredith provided that.

In a duals tournament, the match very likely doesn't happen. SDSU up 10 points with 2 matches left, does Bono really risk it when he could let Gross clinch the team win at 133? If they start at 125, does Bono take that gamble so early? Probably no in both scenarios.

Duals do matter. The fan experience is huge, so is the opportunity for the athletes to test themselves.
Kudos to both kids, Gross and Meredith, for putting forth the efforts that produced an exciting, even if low scoring, competition.

Thanks to everyone for their posts in this thread...very good reads. Unfortunately, my early morning today prevented me from live-viewing last evening (needed my beauty sleep!!)...but your posts made me feel like I was following it in real-time. Again...thanks.

Doubtful he will, but UNI duals SDSU on Sunday, and him going up a weight to wrestle Alber would add some excitement too, even though I painfully admit that Gross would likely beat Alber. I know he'll shell either of our two 133 pounders who could go against him!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO....

...I just checked the SDSU website to purchase the dual for Sunday and see that it is NOWrestling (Flo) that is covering the event. For one, I do not waste my money on them anymore, but haven't they gone to a new subscription format, where you purchase for the year, instead of per event?

It's possible to buy month to month, but they make it durn difficult. Try a different browser, or a private browsing session, or emailing them.

Seth Gross has officially become my favorite non-Penn State wrestler. This is what it's all about. Challenging yourself, the thrill of competition and passion for the sport itself. He is the anti-Tom Ryan.

GOOOOO SETH!!!

And...WE ARE!!!
I became a big Gross fan at last year's NCAA's--very fun to watch!

I hope this type of courage and fearlessness from wrestlers becomes a trend! It's amazing to see two of the nation's best willing to lay it on the line to test themselves instead of worrying about protecting their records. It's reminiscent of the ufc making super fights between champions, and generates tremendous excitement for the sport! Hats off to both men!!!

A couple of years ago we had it happen twice at the early season All-Star Classic--Ramos went up a weight and wrestled Carter; and Stieber went up a weight and wrestled Maple. In both cases the heavier guy got the first TD but the lighter guy eventually won. I hope we see more of that.
