I never saw the match live - only saw score updates on this site, so I have no idea who was in whose corner! BTW dingbat, it is not my "conspiracy theory" - it is what Ramos represented at the post-match Press Conference, last time I checked he wrestled for both Iowa, HWC and the Brands Brother's.....so much for you trying to absurdly claim it's something I made up - you HR freaks are too much sometimes. BTW, Ramos did not say "the Brands" lied to him - in fact he said the diametric opposite about Terry Brands, said he could confirm many of his statements - his primary claim was that Tom Brands intentionally misled him right after he had brought DD back to the HWC and he [Ramos] asked him a bunch of questions regarding his own status with HWC and that he was thinking of a career change [e.g., leaving HWC]. Ramos claims he was all but out the door and Tom Brands told him things to get him to stay that he did not honor or answers that were clearly not and did not line-up with subsequent actions. I have no idea, how Tom Brands answered the questions that Ramos asked when he was thinking about leaving, but guess what, neither do you!
If, again IF Tom Brands in fact told Tony Ramos one thing about who would be his coach for the Trials, then did another without first making sure Ramos was on board with any coaching switch, then I think we're talking about a breach of good faith -- a lack of integrity if you will. And that's mostly what I heard Ramos say. In a couple sentences at the top of the script he accepted responsibility for results on the mat, then went on to describe what he obviously felt was a breach of faith on the part of Brands.
I don't agree with the way Ramos handled the situation. If he intended to go public as he did, he should've gone behind closed doors with Brands first. Maybe he felt one "good" turn deserves another, who knows. And obviously disappointment with the loss played a large part. But after listening to both Ramos' ventilation and Brands' response to it, I'm honestly left wondering if Tom Brands might've been less than completely honest with his wrestler.

Okay, what does it say to you when both sides agree on what was said but disagree on the actual outcome? To me, it says that the meaning of "corner" is different to the two men, or that they didn't contemplate a day where Tom would have two guys to "corner". It doesn't need to be any more complicated than that. I've had dozens of situations where two of us would be in a heated argument over something and it turned out our meaning of a word was different. Once we found that out, common ground was reached. I just have a hard time believing Tom didn't tell DD and TR that he supported them both but out of respect each of them would be a neutral observer.Ditto. Someone in press corps asked Brands if he "promised to corner Ramos in a conversation with Ramos" (e.g., as per Ramos' post-match press statement)... I found Tom Brands' answer to be almost surreal. He fist stated, "Yes, I promised Tony I would be in his corner.....'corner him'....". Then he went on to say, "I corner all my guys and commit to corner all of them.....". If you listen to Ramos' statements, his big beef is what he was told when he had made the decision to leave HWC AFTER DD had returned and been there for some time - Ramos made no bones about it, he wasn't happy and made his feelings known to Tom Brands....told Tom Brands he was going to make a career change and leave HWC....etc.. These are the direct promises and statements and promises Ramos kept referring to that he felt he was misled and betrayed about. Tom Brands more-or-less acknowledged that the conversation(s) did occur, but his answer as to what he promised Ramos were very obtuse and suspicious imho - the way he answered Ramos' accusation about promising to "corner him" being a classic example.
What?Ramos is a great wrestler, but has always been a loose cannon and let's his emotions get the best of him. This could have been aired behind closed doors. Not the way to handle it Tony, know matter who is right or wrong.
Tom is the voice of reason on this board. Every board needs a Tom. Very professional .
But our Tom survives the grind of November every season. Nor is he just filled with bread stuffing....he is full of wrestling tidbits, morsels, and delicacies. He provides us with the meat and potatoes of wrestling information covered with gravy. Tom provides! We usually add a few Toms every year, but they suddenly disappear around Thanksgiving. Not sure why...

Taking thoughts on the interview......
A) TR walks it back and apologizes
B) TR walks it back but stops short of actually saying "im sorry blah blah blah"
C) adds a new car bomb to the current dumpster fire
D) Apologizes first then does a drive by on something else to do with TnT/DD
E) fails to call in
F) something else
Im thinking A. I think someone got ahold of him last night/today and calmed him down.
One thing I am sure of regardless of the direction he takes, his interview has overshadowed a great OTT and he may have just won the internet for the the weekend.
The Elephant in the room.......From march 28th. this leads me to maybe consider my last post. Todays radio interview may just be fuel on the fire

OK, enough about the hawks, this is happy valley. this is a PSU website isn't it? Go to the hawks website if you want to talk about iowa.

I have been critical of many things involving Tom Brands at different times, and have been banned from HR for voicing my opinion on a couple of these topics, but.......Anybody who knows Tom or Terry at all knows they are 100% all in with the guys they coach. Tom would not have intentionally lied to Tony about the DD situation just to screw him over. That is not who Tom Brands is. He does not operate with deceit of that type. Tom is who he says he is. I don't like some of the things I've noticed the past several years in the program, but nothing about the honesty or integrity of the Brands would make my list. Old school-too tough on guys-over trains-too intense- any of these may or may not be true, but honesty and integrity are not things Tom Brands lacks imo.
I also feel the same way about Tony Ramos. Great young man who is all in with the people he cares about. I believe he is sincere in his hurt, but I do wonder if he will view it differently once he can clear his head. He just suffered through a terrible heart break. I hope these guys can work this out and stay the course. Tony is one of the most "Hawkeye" guys you will ever meet. He is a hero to many young kids wrestling in our state, and very warm and caring with the young wrestlers he helps. He is somewhat like a young Terry Brands. The Flo video on Terry talked about him wanting to climb a fence and run into the wild after losing in this same spot- I wish Tony had run off and found himself alone with his thoughts for a couple of days before this interview. He was obviously hurting a great deal. There are better days ahead and Tom will forgive him completely.
Have to think if he agreed to do the interview today he intends to apologize. That would be the right thing to do. He handled this situation terribly yesterday.Taking thoughts on the interview......

According to a post on the Iowa board Ramos is doing a radio interview later on today. This could go either way.
I have been trying to tell guys Tom Brands pushes guys away and now Ramos wants far away !!!!According to a post on the Iowa board Ramos is doing a radio interview later on today. This could go either way.
He is a piece of s*&I and only looks out for Marty this is his type of stuff more glory for Marty and yes this could be bad. Here is the link. Interview starts at 6:30pm. Apparently this guy is considered a shock jock so this could be a major dumpster fire.

TRUTH....Tom Brands is not loyal to his wrestlers and never will be in tough times....There is no way in hell Cael would ever do this to any young man !!!! Tom Ryan is exactly the same way once you get to know him really well....Nuclear bomb just went off in IC. Holy Cow!

Well looks he is gone. Wonder where he will end up. Maybe Michigan State but I can't believe even they would want a guy who throws a family under the bus. Maybe your best bet Tony is go into poltics or maybe just grow up some.,
No Tom Brands wanted Tony out and went hard after Dennis..Just shows you exactly what others have been saying about Brands that i know for sure...In hard times he will treat you like crap. Tom Ryan is exactly the same way...Ask Roberts how he was treated at OSU and Haines and they will both tell you. Yes i am a PSU fan but Cael respects every single kid in his room. Go to pratice and you will see. Brands and Ryan have a lot of growing up to do to EVER be in the same conversation as Cael Sanderson....Lots of discussion which should be on a matter like this.
Terry Brands has trained Ramos since he came to Iowa college and HWC. He was in Ramos corner.
Dennis has a right to come back and Duore was his coach and in his corner.
If Tony was upset he was family and should have never made the comments just go face to face and then just leave and let the world go on.
What he did is way worse than anything Brands maybe did to him he hurt family.
Tony I believe knew he was going to lose because face it Dennis is a better free style wrestler.
Tony likes attention and he took it all away from Dennis. Now Dennis is the type of person who
does not give a s&&t what Tony does or says he lives a free life.
Tony was wrong and hope he clears it up today. If there is more to this then talk with Brands not the whole dam world. If u had family problems would you throw your family member under the bus with out facing them first?
Spencer and his Dad are very smart and i am sure he don't want his son wrestling for a nut who does not have your back. Heck he has the BEST Coaches, wrestlers. fans, academics in his own back yard...PLUS THE # 1 OLIP CLUB IN THE COUNTRY TO PURSUE HIS DREAMS !!!!I think Brands handled it about as well as you could. I do not think Ramos handled it very well. However, I think Ramos has a valid point or 2. If he feels he was lied to or mislead and someone he has been working with and preparing with for this moment is in your opponents corner, that is going to mess with your head. This was a tough situation for all involved and I don't agree with how Ramos aired it all out when he was obviously very emotional, but I think he has legit complaints that could have seriously hurt his chances last night.
Re: Spencer Lee - IMO PSU does not need Spencer to continue its run; however Spencer would really help PSU continue its run. Iowa really needs Spencer to get back into the title hunt.
