Yep, and it's 1/2 mile from where they are at most other campus. i.e. at the stadium, broadcasting with the incoming crowd in the background....
Wisconsin did same thing last year.

The better way is to have a sign with a “polite message” attached with Velcro tabs at each corner in order to pass security. Rolled-up and hidden under your outerwear are many more signs, with Velcro attached at each of the four corners” such that they can be easily and quickly attached and substituted. For those interested -- if you want to create a negative sign, make sure you also create a positive sign to paste in front of the negativity and then once you get past the censors at the gate (yes, they check the signs), then rip down the positive one.
My way of protesting is to do what I've been doing for most of the last 6 years -- not watching.
Any anti-ESPN, anti-NCAA and anti-BOT will be viewed favorably by the audience.A protest would be stupid. Pro-Paterno signs will look kind of desperate to me.
Now, signs directly aimed at ESPN and the way they help direct public opinion and have subsequently moved to be more of a political network would be more poignant.
Fans around the country are enamored with the White Out. We originated it and do it bigger and better than any other venue. Against Michigan at night is special. This gives ESPN the ability to draw more attention to it and hype the game, our atmosphere, our Heisman candidate, our coach, and our #2 ranking. I think it's great they're coming. All this attention helps the program.
If all the signs were directed at the fact that ESPN is a failing network, that would be perfect and it would hit close to home for those dirtbags. Maybe a giant bar chart of net change in subscribers by month. We know how ESPN treated us (and still pretty much does) and I'd be happy not to host gameday, but we need to turn this into a positive thing for PSU. I don't give a crap about ESPN, but let's use this to our advantage. Recruits watching this were in middle school when the scandal started, they could care less at this point. Our underclassmen students too were in middle school, and something before they enrolled will not stop them from coming out to cheer Gameday. So let's use this to our benefit for going forward. I'd love to be there with a negative sign, but then we stoop to their level.
They control the signs every single week. They have checkpoints to get in and if you somehow slip something past it and they spot it later they will take the sign or kick you out. This is simply a scenic backdrop play, nothing more. The crowd will be 80%+ students that have mostly moved on anyway. This gameday will look like any other on TV, excessive backlash will basically be a non-issue for ESPN as far as what is seen on the broadcast.Like I said before, this is so they can control the signs, anything pro-Paterno and quash anything negative with heavy police and rent a cop presence. Our BoT and their imbeciles are so predictable.
Saw this come up earlier. Just wondering out loud on this. What makes the Old Main setup location affective in controlling crowd behavior? Will this mean that people cannot attend? Is it an alcohol thing?
Honestly, I doubt it's anything. Herbie really like Penn State fans and the PSU program - move on, they have. They picked a beautiful spot, some where a little bit different for their set-up this time. They have been doing more and more "away from a stadium" set-ups recently -- maybe to switch things up a bit for the viewers.
I remember back in 2009, the big push was for everyone to just take plain white signs to "white out" Gameday, There were about 10 people with them, and the other 98% had the same "witty" signs you see every week. I'd expect the same deal on Saturday. This gameday will look like any other on TV, excessive backlash will basically be a non-issue for ESPN as far as what is seen on the broadcast.

And don’t think for a moment this hasn’t already been worked out, my friends. There is method to their madness. ESPN knows exactly what they are marching into. After 6 years there was no avoiding it.
This is what I thought. Thanks Gregg. Why come at all if you are that frightened of the outcome?

Be careful, it sounds like you're "moving on". People don't like us doing that around here.We don't need no flippen protest. We're #2. Relish it for what it is and enjoy the attention. Have fun. It's football!
Hope that John Urshel is the guest football picker.
Dude, you don't know anything. They do their best to control the signs at every location, whether they're at the stadium or somewhere else. It's not something special they decided they need to do for PSU.Like I said before, this is so they can control the signs, anything pro-Paterno and quash anything negative with heavy police and rent a cop presence. Did he "really like penn state" last year brah when he forced an inferior OSU team into the playoff with his platform? The hell is wrong with you?

FIFY.You know nothing, Jon Snow. They do their best to control the signs at every location, whether they're at the stadium or somewhere else. It's not something special they decided they need to do for PSU.
Well THAT settles things.Don’t embarrass us JoeBots. The Gameday crew is here because of the 2017 team, not Joe.
What good do you think will come from JoeBots looking like morons on national TV?Well THAT settles things.
I was essentially busting on you. It was intended as humor, nothing more. But I might add that your continual use of the term "JoeBots" is a bit tiresome, and unlikely to win you many converts on this Board. What good do you think will come from JoeBots looking like morons on national TV?
You forgot to add they can point down the lawn to College Avenue and say "that is where the students rioted when the Board of Trustees fired Joe Paterno". Cue the footage of students overturning the television van which was previously broadcast all around the country. My guess is the ESPN producers have scripted all this well in advance by choosing Old Main for their back drop. It's for dramatic effect for their montage. "Six years ago, the unthinkable happpened..." JS highlights, shot of BOT firing Joe, which wow, happened right there where they are now broadcasting. Then they can transition to how everything is fantastic now because we are ranked #2 and show a bunch of Saquon highlights. Because football solves everything.
No thank you.
It doesn't matter. If ESPN doesn't want it shown they will just have security escort you out of the area. If you refuse you can be charged with criminal trespass. This is not the first time they done this. They know how to deal with it.The better way is to have a sign with a “polite message” attached with Velcro tabs at each corner in order to pass security. So ESPN gains control over PSU campus property? It doesn't matter. If ESPN doesn't want it shown they will just have security escort you out of the area. If you refuse you can be charged with criminal trespass. This is not the first time they done this. They know how to deal with it.
It would be great if you were arrested at Gameday. You would be the all-time star of the BWI McAndrew Board. Not that I'm instigating you or anything. Discretion is the better part of valour (note your preferred spelling) and all that. Still. It would be great if you were arrested at Gameday. So ESPN gains control over PSU campus property?
No but PSU does. Penn State are hosting the event. Do you think they are not going to work with ESPN in regards to security? That like saying if someone has a concert in the BJC they won't be able to remove someone because they don't have control over PSU campus property. So ESPN gains control over PSU campus property?
Well, maybe because it's so close to Halloween they will have decided to dress as you. What good do you think will come from JoeBots looking like morons on national TV?
I’m too intelligent to get arrested at GameDay. Asked to leave and escorted out? Perhaps. It would be great if you were arrested at Gameday. You would be the all-time star of the BWI McAndrew Board.
