How does Old Main Location affect protest?

I’m too intelligent to get arrested at GameDay. Asked to leave and escorted out? Perhaps.
That would be less spectacular than an arrest, but with video evidence would be good enough to vault you ahead of Bushwood in the BWI pantheon. That would put you just below demlion. He led a rally in front of Old Main.

@demlion

No but PSU does. Penn State are hosting the event. Do you think they are not going to work with ESPN in regards to security? That like saying if someone has a concert in the BJC they won't be able to remove someone because they don't have control over PSU campus property.
Let’s run through a “scenario”.

I gain entrance into the “ESPN Zone” whilst carrying a sign that says something innocuous like “Everyone Seems Perturbed w/Narduzzi” (or substitute NCAA for Narduzzi) on which I purposely bolden the capitalized letters in hopes that it gets noticed, as I did above.

My sign is only temporary because I’ve thought-ahead and prepared many other signs (quickly unrolled and attached via Velcro) that are “less-than-complimentary” about PSU’s Board of Trustees, the Administration and the NCAA. None of the signs are vulgar, but they might be viewed as offensive by the targeted groups.

Are you suggesting that I will be asked to leave because of my “messaging”? I thought PSU was tolerant of “free speech” and such?

Way to besmirch the current team by making it about the scandal.

Some of my signs would be very complimentary of Franklin, Saquon, the Team et al.

As I suggested before, the “oppressed minority” rarely gets an opportunity such as this to “have a pesky contra-voice” with which the viewing audience will both notice and agree.

What’s your problem now?

Embarrasing you and your incompetent co-workers (aka Administrative Bloat)? :)
How exactly? We both know that it’s going to accomplish nothing and the BOT will not give a shit at the end of the day. It’s nothing more than you selfishly making the event about your dead cause and taking the spotlight away from the #2 team in the country.

Honestly, I doubt it's anything. Herbie really like Penn State fans and the PSU program - move on, they have. They picked a beautiful spot, some where a little bit different for their set-up this time. They have been doing more and more "away from a stadium" set-ups recently -- maybe to switch things up a bit for the viewers.

Really? what did Herbie say after PSU beat Wisconsin but before the committee picked who went to the playoff?

You only want us to “move on”, but it will likely never happen “Sunshine”, until and unless the wrongs of the past are “righted”

We need to put the word out... don't show up. Or better yet, be silent and turn your backs to them.

Good luck with that. Numerous student groups already formulating their plans for getting there at 4 am to get in line.

Dude, you don't know anything. They do their best to control the signs at every location, whether they're at the stadium or somewhere else. It's not something special they decided they need to do for PSU.

That is a fact... it’s the same at every Gameday location and was put in place a few years ago because a few signs were picked up by the cameras which were not appropriate.

Like having a poster of a naked woman.. not sure I would want my 7 , 9 or even 11 year old seeing that on TV as they watch games...

We should restrict them to Patee and make the whisper. LOL

ABC/ESPN is trying to “Market” their Heisman Trophy and playoff franchises. That is the only reason why they are in State College.

My response is you should have thought of that 6 yrs ago when you willingly partnered with the corrupt Corbett and our OG BOT.

I love Sequon and wish him all the success that life has to offer but I don’t give a flying f about the Heisman Trophy and the clown show that comes with it.

I understand the anger but why would we not use this to our “ advantage”?

Hoping we have RECORD crowd at Gameday location.,, crowd is huge... respectful.., loud... fun and witty with their signs... I hope they are so loud that it’s hard for the Gameday Commentators to even talk.., you are a 17-18 year old kid and you see that on TV.., and you would not be excited about coming to Penn State ? Great academics... Awesome , Fun and Loud students ?

I’m not a football coach.... but isn’t it an effective game plan if you are up against a strong defensive team who blitzes all the time... you use screen passes.. traps etc ?

You don’t run away from an oppositions strength... you use it to your advantage.. yes?

Maybe Timothy Hutton, Tom Cruise, and Sean Penn just won't let them on campus.

First, this isn’t football. It’s advertising.

Second, I am all for a large boisterous crowd at the game.

I’m just not interested in ESPN’s two-faced, clown show.

No problem with advertising if it helps Penn State... and... if used correctly... this could very well be a great advertisement for Penn State.

The worst thing that could happen ? If fans show up bitter... disrespectful...

I dislike ESPN as much as anyone here... but... let’s make no mistake.... at least IMO... 97% of the blame that happened falls in the cowards who were in charge at Penn State.., the press just ran with it...

As much as I want to see ESPN's broadcast truck lit on fire, this should be about this year's team and players. I'm willing to bite my tongue so to speak until they start in on the scandal. If they can avoid mentioning it more than "amazing how far this program has come in 6 years" or something like that, then maybe we really are past Sandusky. If the start droning on about Sandusky, let slip the dogs of war. As someone put it in another thread, if Penn State has to take on the role of villain or antihero, so be it. People will still watch.

Please, don’t embarrass Penn State. Be normal for once and stop obsessing over the dead former coach for just one day.

For me, it's not about Joe. He probably knew enough and should have done more.

I harbor a grudge against the NCAA for stepping into an entirely criminal matter where no competitive advantage was being gained. I harbor a grudge against Erickson and the BOT who gave Joe no due process and showed no backbone...caving to every demand made by anyone just to try to get off the front page. I harbor a grudge against the PA legal system that did not give Sandusky a fair and impartial trial (I have no doubt of his guilt, but every citizen is entitled a fair and impartial trial). I harbor a grudge against ESPN for droning on incessantly about the scandal. I harbor a grudge against all those who gave me disgusted looks while I was wearing a Penn State shirts and all those who called me a pedophile or enabler online or via proxy.

That’s fine, but what do you think a protest will accomplish on national tv? It will just fan the flames.

As I said in my other post, I'll hold my tongue to let the current team have their moment in the sun. But if they start in on the scandal again, who is fanning the flames? I certainly hope people aren't going to just sit idly by while the drag the university through the mud again on OUR OWN F'ing CAMPUS.

I think you are worrying too much about this. Outside of passively mentioning the scandal, ESPN isn’t going to dedicate time to it in Gameday. Unless Jerry gets a new trial... which would be a travesty.

is it too late to rent a plane with a banner that says "kick out ESPN game day or we will"?

Asking for a friend.

Again, I don't doubt his guilt. But there is no way his trial was fair. His lawyers were denied time to prepare and access to interview victims. There are over 20 victims iirc and 48 charges. That complex a trial should take years...not 6 months from arrest to verdict. A pretty cut and dried murder trial can take 2 years.

every time you post you just show your ignorance more and more

I doubt a cut and dry murder trial would take 2 years, probably 2 months if were talking the alleged is your average person. The high profile ones take years because they get high profile defense attorneys who will draw the process out forever. A cut and dry case likely goes to a plea bargain conviction anyways.

But Sandusky's case did seem way to short given it was mostly he said she said sort of case with lots of people involved. Added to that the event took place years ago.

It was very fair. Jerry had no defense because his acts were indefensible. When he was given the chance to confront his accusers on the stand, he declined. That’s his problem.

All a new trial will accomplish is bringing anger back on PSU. No thanks.
