HR - thoughts on kerk

giphy.gif

If True, feels like this.

The bizarre thing about this.. if true is that he wrestled recently on Rokfin with no sign of any injury.. Which then makes me wonder if he was injured since then or this related back to his injury a couple years back..

Not related injured since then

What really sucks is with all the bragging, we may not face Iowa in all their glory, with the Lions at full strength. We would have won last year with Cassar, and of course this year having Kirk in the lineup is probably a 6 point swing.

Same as you. I received a text this morning.

yeah. My best friend was on the team in the 90’s. Still plugged in a bit. Always goes to the golf outing, etc .... he didn’t hear about it until I texted him last night. Shot a text back today saying it’s true.
He also said about a month ago that word from the room was that Kerk looked UNREAL and they would be surprised if he didn’t win it. (Similar to what was told to Kitty). This blooooooows for Kerk and the team

Didn’t even need room reports. All you had to do was see him live and not be in denial.

Sanderson just had media today and a question was asked about Kerkvliet at the 3 minute mark. Said he wasn't sure when we would see him and didn't want to talk about individuals. He didn't rule him out but Sanderson definitely seemed to pause and think about how he wanted to answer the question.

But he will still have (4) years if he chooses - correct?
I think that's a open question. He was rumored to have lost a year of ellgibility when he transferred after the start of the school year at tOSU. If anything, I'd say this injury probably improves his chances of getting an extra year for the injury--but there is no clear indication he wants to compete in Folkstyle any longer than he has to too, soo....

Since fairly well established he had a procedure.

Those of you dialed in or have someone who is needs to find out how long hes out for.

Surgery could mean many things ....the trick get the next level intel.

Kerk grey shirted last season so did not lose a year of eligibility. Would still have 4 seasons after this one AND a redshirt available. Sure hope he can go this season.

Do you have a source for that info? I thought the NCAA rule that was being tossed around last year was pretty clear on when you can/can't transfer, and the penalty for not complying.

To soothe my personal wound over all of this, I just took the last 4 minutes to watch the complete catalog of his matches whilst at NLWC. Kid has a bright future, hope he heals well first, and fast if possible.

Already wrestlin with one knee, cmon kid SUCK IT UP!!
Joking of course, this sucks for all involved but none more than Greg Kerkvliet! Stay strong young man!!

From what I have heard, he will not be competing this year due to surgery, so you are correct. I’ll let the coaches or Kerk reveal the reasoning.
Show was taped yesterday in Iowa. The guest was former Iowa wrestler Adam Fellers (Felters to some). No reason to doubt what he said
Just got a not so great text about the topic from a typically solid source .... 😡😡

He was on the roster last year, so it wasn't a grayshirt. May have been an ORS, although the current roster lists him as a redshirt freshman.

Which means.....no matter what......he will once again be a redshirt freshman next year. Pretty certain he will also earn an Olympic Redshirt in the future if he so desires.

I thought Kerk tore his ACL his last year in HS and just said eff it and never repaired it
This is true. There's an interview of him talking about not having an acl after winning U23s a couple years ago. I don't remember perfectly, but I think he might have torn it once, gotten it repaired, torn it again, and then decided to just roll with it. It's never been confirmed, but widely speculated that Marinelli did the same thing.

He tore his ACL in high school and got it repaired. Was back on the mat in ~4 months IIRC.
He then re-tore the same ACL at a freestyle tourney overseas that summer. Decided to not get it repaired and just compete without that ACL.

Hines Ward had a pretty good career with missing one ACL. The definition of the exception vs the rule. I dont know how athletes can perform at that level without an ACL.

@WildTurk , Barry Sanders juked Rod Woodson out of his ACL in the first game of the 1995 season. He was able to come back in time to play in the Super Bowl. I think he was the first football player to ever return from an ACL surgery in the same season. Some people are freaks of nature.

I've had a torn acl and it wasn't nowhere near as painful as a sprained knee lol. At least in my situations. It just felt strange. Not supportive once your started bending your knee. Didn't do anything for it so it gets a bit weird once in awhile. The morning I woke up with the sprain I thought my whole damn knee must of been blown out lol. Crazy.

I thought Kerk said last year he only wanted to be in college wrestling for four years then get out of, How long until this guy gets labeled injury prone? Plus this is three upper weights in a row for psu that are always hurt. When is the narrative come out that Cael is too rough on the bigs? lol. Kidding.

Hate this. Was really hoping to see him wrestle. Hope he makes it back this season.
