HR - thoughts on kerk

Well damn auto correct, free yr, covid cancellations, no out of conference matches, schools opting out, no bracket would have all the top 10 kids.

No title is without some type of *, we live in the * age. Everyone has opinions.
I could say “pavement is black“ six guys would try to prove me wrong, one would succeed,Bordo would make a gif out of it,and Roar would say “what does it matter”. I need nother drink, It looks like Im clearing the family room.

I remember when this board was elated to have Big Snacks join the Cael crew. Maybe he has jumped another level this year. Mid to low AA just below Big Cass? Is that enough to get it done? Healthy 99% Snacks or 83% Kerk?

Never have?

Thanks

matches against teammates counted last year at least. iowa state put on a 'last chance open' last year to get their guys up to 15 matches:

"Marcus Coleman, needing to go 5-0 to get an allocation spot and attempt to qualify for the NCAA Tournament in March, went 5-0.

His fifth win was an actual match, defeating North Dakota State's TJ Pottinger by a 15-4 major decision Sunday in the final dual of the season for Iowa State.

The previous four? The most activity Coleman did was walk on the mat and have his arm raised.

Four matches with four injury defaults, and the Ames native met the 15-match requirement, not only improving his winning percentage but also being at the center of controversy."

According to one poster, matches against team mates wont count.
The NLO would have other wrestlers besides PSU wrestlers. There would probably be some matches between PSU wrestlers, but I think the bulk of the matches would not be so. Some great matches could occur; I believe the first time Bo wrestled Martin was at a NLO (I think Bo won by a point). It's probably too late for an NLO, but with Rokfin, who knows.

I am still hoping for an unprecedented early recovery for Kerk. Maybe by the completely arbitrary date of February...

Technically black is defined as the total absorption of all visible light, which, short of a void or cavern or deep sea....doesn't exist in our daily lives. So the pavement isn't black. Unless its at the bottom of a mine shaft. But if you turn your headlamp on it isn't black anymore :)

And I thought I was gonna get good news about Kerkulees.

I would agree that fresh pavement is blackish, but clearly over time it turns more of a greyish color.

Being that our universe is likely a simulation of a previous universe, one could argue there is no pavement at all. Thus it is not black.

Right now it looks like 0-0 regular season, then top-7 at B1G's, would earn a trip to NCAA's for 285.

At B1G's, either;
-- Advance 2 rounds in the Championship bracket
-- Advance 1 round in Championships, then 2 rounds in wrestlebacks
-- Advance 1 round in Championships, then 1 round in wrestlebacks, win the 7th place bout
-- Don't advance in the Championship bracket, any 3 wins in wrestlebacks or placement matches
-- Remember, all weight classes are seeded to 14

We're not talking about an average wrestler here, so if mostly healthy, the first scenario could apply, imo, coming out of the 11, 12, 13, or 14 seed. Would likely have to beat two of; No's 6, 5, 4, or 3 seeds in that scenario.

anybody hear the actual quote from cael? the tweet in the article says cael "does not anticipate" having kerk this season. is that different that the current expectation of probably not having him, but there's an outside shot if recovery goes right?

They all seems equivalent to me ("will be without," "does not anticipate," "the current expectation is probably not having...).

"Will be" expresses intent but is not definitive. It has the advantage of being less wordy and excludes ambiguous likelihood adverbs.

In other words, I take it that there's 83% chance we will not see Kerk this year. ;)

Until the staff makes it 100% clear externally I imagine we won’t hear from any insider here. Bummer for GK, and the team.

Six people will try to prove your interpretation is wrong.

"Out for the season" is not what Cael said -- it's the author's interpretation of what Cael said.

(And it's "author," not "reporter" or "journalist," when all he did was write a story around somebody else's tweet.)

"We don't anticipate him back" is not a good sign but is not the same as "he's out for the season."

In any case, I would believe @Dgswi or @Johnbrooks regardless, and especially over anything from Roar Lions Roar.

It never ceases to annoy me that today you can read a tweet by a student journalist, and use that as a source for a whole article. No offense to any of the people who did that here--it's just the state of the world, but, sigh.

Kerk will 100% be back for big tens. If he was really out for the year, Cael would have said "he looked very solid in a practice match with Snyder this morning."

Shit.

Seems to register a bit south of Suriano is down in the room wrestling right now.

Probably as much as an 8 point swing in the dual that won't happen, and 10+ points in the tourneys.

It's very possible Cael shut it down since both Mr. Kerkvliet (and Mr. Brooks) hinted Greg was working at a Big Ten return. Honestly, probably for the best, especially in this kind of year. Greg has a long career here and after and no need to risk anything by rushing a return.

Let's go Seth!
