After this performance, I’m smelling something else.
Unfortunately, based on today’s game I agree.
. Wisky beating Minny 38-10. Herbstreit and Fowler saying Wisky could jump PSU and be the Rose Bowl rep from the Big Ten. Even with a loss to OSU in the title game Herby says ‘don’t punish them for playing an extra game’.
Kirk Herbstreit is actively advocating Wisconsin to edge out PSU for Rose Bowl consideration. And some of you delusionalists think he likes PSU.

There is still discussion that Minny may be the rep if it comes to PSU//Minny.

They were serious. It wasn’t an off the cuff comment. They talked about it for a few minutes (to fill time in a blowout game).

Penn State made the wrong statement today with their lackluster effort against a terrible team who out efforted them today. Very disappointing.
I agree but Herby said the playoff rankings aren’t like the AP poll where people get shifted solely based on who lost this week. He said the committee re ranks teams each week based on what they think now and not focused on where teams were last week or earlier in the season.
I hope so but this piss poor performance today has me concerned that the committee loses some confidence in us. I guess our overall resume holds up, barely.
I think our saving grace is we have one less loss.

No doubt that this was a crappy performance.
But very, very few voters probably actually watched this game. And what they'll see is that Clifford was out, Gross-Matos and TCF were out, and we won by 20+ in a lackluster effort.
Wisconsin has had a game or two like that, as well.
I do understand your sentiment. But I think we're a bit too biased and hard on ourselves -- as fans are oft to do. Voters probably won't see it the same way.
Edit: If UF takes care of business, I do think they'll jump us, though. Not that it'll matter for Rose Bowl consideration. Ohio State win next week = Rose Bowl for us, in all likelihood.

We also played without our starting QB and two of our top defensive players...and they will all be back for the bowl game. Hopefully the committee is smarter than a lot of our fans.

From the segment I heard (flipping between games) it wasn’t a shot because PSU was struggling with Rutgers. It was more a statement about Wisky beating Minny badly on the road while PSU lost to Minny so they could make the claim for being the Rose Bowl rep.
Wisconsin & Minnesota play in a much easier conference. PSU has a stronger strength of schedule.

If Wisky beats OSU I think the Rose takes Wisconsin as the Conference Champs. Lose to OSU and they’re a 3 loss team and playing a different Bowl Game. That leaves Minny and PSU. I think PSU is the better team, but Minnesota won the head to head. I think it would come down to which program could fill more seats. Penn State has more fans, but Minnesotans will mortgage their homes to see a Rose Bowl in their lifetime.

I've never exactly been "buying" the PSU rankings this year based on the game performances, but I don't think a 3 TD win with a backup QB making his first start, no yetur, no castro-fields in a pretty meaningless game will affect much.
Today’s performance will have 0 impact on our bowl placement. If Wisconsin goes to the Rose Bowl after losing to Ohio State, it will be because they dominated at Minnesota. PSU will not be penalized for winning by 3 TDs against Rutgers, as ugly as it may have been.

And Wisky got their arses handed to them by OSU and will again. PSU is the only team that has played a 4th quarter game against OSU and that was in Columbus and lost it’s starting QB to injury early in the 3rd quarter. OSU scores 8 TDs in Ann Arbor against Mighty Michigan who the same people who are now pushing Wisky and Minnesota were proclaiming was playing gang busters.
I give Minnesota credit for beating PSU, but let’s face it they didn’t play any body before PSU and were clearing pointing for that game all season. Minnesota played a near perfect game, PSU played lousy and Minnesota needed a very questionable offensive pass interference call to hang on and win. What has Minnesota done now that they have had to play ranked teams since that game? PSU beat ranked Iowa on the road (something Minnesota couldn’t do) and ranked Michigan in consecutive weeks and prior to today played the toughest schedule of any of the teams ranked in the top 15. Spare me the Minnesota and Wisky should go to the Rose instead of PSU BS.
