Although I wouldn't trade very many of our wrestlers for very many of the Hawks, it occurred to me this morning just how weird this year is going to be. Iowa will be rolling out onto the mat with a roster that is dominated by Pennsylvania. Also, their Floridian is a transfer from a PA school, so that counts for something too. Whereas Penn State should be starting 5 Midwestern wrestlers. This is totally new, even for Sanderson. If Teske goes, I believe he will be only the second Iowan (unless there was someone before Long) to start for PSU.

Iowa's projected starters by state of origin

125 - Pennsylvania
133 - Pennsylvania
141 - Pennsylvania
149 - Florida
157 - Pennsylvania
165 - Ohio
174 - Pennsylvania
184 - Iowa
197 - Illinois (I think ... ?)
285 - Illinois

Penn State's projected starters by state of origin

125 - Iowa
133 - Arizona
141 - Indiana
149 - Pennsylvania
157 - Minnesota
165 - Pennsylvania
174 - Minnesota
184 - New York
197 - Ohio (assuming it's indeed Conel)
285 - New Jersey

Penn State wrestling - America's team

(I never liked the Cowboys anyway)

Or at least the northern half of America. Plus Arizona, I guess.

It would be interesting to know how many of the Iowa guys from PA were highly recruited by us, and we lost the recruiting war.
125--We definitely lost this one!
133--We initially lost out to Drexel, but after his problems there, I doubt that we highly recruited him after his FR year, with RBY coming in.
141--Don't believe we lost here--Lee was our higher priority
157--No idea here--I suspect Berge was our higher priority
174--Pretty sure that I heard that we sought Joseph more strongly than Kemerer

So, Iowa has a lot more PA starters than we do, but other than 125, not sure that we lost any recruiting battles.

We didn't lose DeSanto to Drexel. He wasn't getting much attention from the bigger schools when he committed.

The rest of this is mostly correct. I don't recall PSU having any interest in Young either.

While not as PA roster heavy as is Iowa, Ohio State is well represented. A team consisting of PA wrestlers from those two schools would be interesting.

You are correct, Warner is from Illinois.
