Iowa Bias from our friends on Bucknuts

Is he running them out or chasing them out as they try to get free? That’s what the official has to decide.
That’s the rub, isn’t it? When it happens, somebody should be dinged, but refs understandably don’t want to have to make that call, so we get unmerited “action” calls. Not sure how we fix it, apart from a step out type setup.

"If you run into an a**hole in the morning, you ran into an a**hole. If you run into a**holes all day, you're the a**hole."

Same logic applies to Warner's ride.
Yet he’s rarely called for it. Are all the ref’s the a**holes then?

What’s your opinion of Warner’s ride? I know a lot on here say it’s stalling when he “rides” his opponent out of bounds and gets multiple restarts.
It is tricky because it’s not always clear if he is running them off the mat or if they fleeing. I just wish the refs would call a stall on someone when it happens over and over. As much I might not like how Warner does it, guys who are good on bottom do escape from him. I don’t think us PSU fans should bitch though because Starocci did the same thing to Mekhi in the finals last year.

Since most of have wrestled at one level or another, we all know the answer to this question.
I do not recall getting to my feet, fighting for hand control and running to the oob line for another restart on bottom. I do however remember driving someone oob to get a restart from the top position.
It's a top stall every time.

Riding has been a hot topic for many a year. I like riding, for the most part. One guy trying to get out, the other trying to maintain control. It CAN BE exciting. There are mat returns and unbelievable scrambles. There are positions on the mat that would make the game of Twister proud. Every once in a while, we get a near fall count, and the fans go crazy. Less often we get a Fall. It is in the high ninety percent range that riding time is spent on top - NOT trying to turn an opponent - but simply trying to maintain control. Still, it CAN BE exciting. That's one aspect that differentiates folk and free.

All that said; 1) the top guy should not repeatedly run the bottom guy out of bounds, 2nd time it should be a stall against the top guy, 2) both guys must stay active, or the ref should make the appropriate stall call, my opinion is that the top guy should get called more for stalling than currently done, but there seems to be a bias against the bottom guy today, and 3) if NOTHING is happening, call a reset.

The word that comes to mind is ACTION, we need more. Even if it means figuring out a way to place the wrestlers in neutral if there is no/little mat ACTION. I have no desire to use freestyle rules, but a compromise would be ok imo.

Ferrari was the best I’ve seen yet of riding for 15 seconds and then forcing a restart.

Pushing a guy out of bounds isn't breaking a guy down in my opinion and if he does it just to not let the guy up I thinks it's stalling but I could be wrong.

The ankle ride is a stall ride, everyone agrees with the premise. But if it’s allowed, it’s legal, and you guys are excellent at it. So it is what it is.
You aren't clear on which ankle ride you are talking about.

I am going with the ankle hook with the opposing knee...
One can circle toward the head, if the bottom man circles away, the top man can crush the bottom wrestler with an easy cross face cradle.
If the bottom wrestler turns in it's a nearside cradle.

Those are just 2 moves off the ankle hook.

#(1) - Full agreement - Give a stall warning to the top guy the 2nd time he runs the bottom. guy OB.

#(2) - In many cases the stall warning on the bottom guy occurs when he is bellied out with his face in the mat. It's a bad visual, so somewhat understandable in that respect. But sometimes the bottom guy gets hit with a stall warning when he is completely tied up and unable to do much, which seems like a tough call. Overall, agree that the top guy should get hit for stalling more than currently done. But the crux of the matter is making "the appropriate stall call", which is easier said than done.

I'd be in favor of returning both guys to neutral if nothing has happened after some period (maybe in the 40 to 60 second range). However, in many cases there would be judgement about "nothing happening", so it's more subjectivity for the refs, which could be a significant downside. But IMO still better than a 2 minute ride with little action.
