Iowa news - 2024-25

They clearly should have sunk their $$$ into coaches rather than rentals. I see little to no open recognition over there that OSU may not be in the rear view mirror as soon as season’s end.
They sunk a lot of money into the coaches. Brands is signed thru 2029, and he ain't cheap -- $550k in 2023.

They need to sink more money into the RTC, to import senior-level athletes like Cael and Taylor and Bormet and Ryan have done.

I’m wondering if the money has been dangled but without any bites. Maybe Terry’s act has gotten old to the new generation. Minus Spencer and Austin.

Unfortunately for them, only former Hawkeyes seem to be allowed to wrestle for HWC.

Combine that with their penchant for burning bridges with just about every former Hawkeye that isn't still connected to the program, and they have very limited opportunities to improve the RTC.

Terry hasn't been the RTC Coach for several years. It's Dan Dennis.

The bottom line is that the college program's biggest benefactor is solely focused on NCAA results, and the best athletes consider that secondary to World/Olympic results.

From what I hear, they need to sink some money into some windows.

My post still stands. He’s close enough to it all. :)

Anyone have any of the old articles declaring Iowan supremacy over Cael around the start of his PSU tenure? Believe it was from some beat writer type? I’d like to renew my hatred just in time for the dual

Yes, of course, and we’ve been as successful as Iowa has been with them, which is to say Truax had the lowest finish of his career with us last year, but we still set the record without him. That’s par for the course for short term rentals, and for Penn State. The portal is there and it’s a tool that every successful program should try to use to their advantage, but I distinguish between short term rentals like Truax and guys with multiple years left like Mesenbrink or Caliendo on Iowa’s side. The long term guys who will be with the program for 3+ years are more like re-recruits than short term fixes and are guys you can build around just like a regular recruit. The one year grad transfers are just mercenaries meant to plug a hole, not a long term program-building strategy. Suriano is the only one-year grad transfer I can think of who actually won a national title, or even improved over his prior finishes.
That statement about Truax is accurate, but also rather misleading. Truax went 4-4-4 at NCAAs, then finished 5th in his one (and final) season at PSU. That's meeting expectations, not regression.

Overall, throughout the regular season, B1G tourney, and NCAA, Truax performed almost exactly as what should have been reasonably expected of him. This includes both style and results.

Personally, I'd like to see them give TnT a 10 year extension with a big raise. It's high time they take care of TnT - and insure Iowa will continue towards irrelevancy. ;)

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Iowa will not win a National Championship until at least 2035. The only reason I don't push this to 2045 is that I can't predict when Cael will hang it up.

Iowa fans are hanging their hat on Spencer. I predict Spencer will not have as much success as a coach as he did as a wrestler. He is too much about the winning and not enough about the process. Not everyone is wired like him.

I remember that dual. It was a bummer for sure. But then I had an opportunity to speak to Cael at the reception after Nationals and, while he was his typical humble self, he made it clear that he expected the future to be very different. But I don't think anyone thought the dynasty would start the very next year.

Sometimes I forget why Iowa is so despised, then I read this again. Timing (2010) to be that cocky couldn’t be more poetic.
I can't picture PSU fans being so pathetically ignorant and stupidly arrogant when Iowa comes to Penn State the first time after they hire Nelson Brands in hopes of elevating their program back to greatness. I am willing to bet on it.

Recently I read an article/study about goal setting. There are three types of goal setting, process based, performance based and results based. PSU is process based goal setting, Iowa is results based goal setting. The study found that processed based goal setting results in the highest satisfaction and results. Result based goal setting was the least successful in terms of satisfaction and achieving and results.

Which is closest to paying somebody to do your homework?

Somehow something I said got me nuked over there, I guess they're getting a little bit sensitive. I thought I was fairly polite but still pretty clear how Penn State is so much better? I don't know did I make a mistake somewhere?

Previous things that I said over there didn't get me banned, one was out Penn State was more like the SEC in football than Salem Alabama. Meaning they've won more titles in the same period than the SEC has in football. That didn't go over well but only one or two people made a nice comment about it.

Now I have lived in Iowa for a few years and I had my first job out of college and I like the area so I like to toss it out there from time to time however they seem to get mad when you disagree with them on anything. It seems they're still going back to that slush fu d thing and Kale or Carl or whatever.

They still seem quite sensitive . I belong to the BEG wrestling group on Facebook and one of their moderators there who is an Iowa fan said he works there and he doesn't think he did anything out of line, but he said they are getting a little sensitive lately.

I think you are overanalyzing this. No need to spend so much time figuring out what's going on.

One of their moderators in WildTurk. Enough said.
