Iowa news - 2024-25

Gotta wonder if they hand those braces out with the rest of their team kit.

Whatever happened to "We like our guys." ???
lol. one of the newer threads on the Iowa board is”what 1 year rentals are available “. It almost appears Iowa has given up on recruiting “their own guys”. It’s hard to believe this type of reasoning would ever have come out on an Iowa board. Back when Cael first came here the attitude on Iowa board was mocking and arrogance…. now it is resignation and acceptance.

They are chomping at the bit to bring in Henson and Cardenas to replace Parco and Teemer when they have Estrada, Block, and the two Voinovich brothers on the roster right now, all of whom are pretty good (probably fringe AA candidates), but not quite good enough to compete with PSU, so mercenaries it is...

My fear for him is that if he grows into 245, I think he loses even more quickness.
His game isn't really predicated on quickness though. That's actually one reason I've always been a little lower on him than most Iowa fans. Small heavyweights succeed by being quick and explosive. Kueter is long and excels on feel in scrambles. He wrestles like the tall 160 lber he used to be.

My hope is that if he adds more size and strength, that part of his game will be more consistent. Right now, he's just getting worn down by the size and strength advantage against his peers, and then the elite 3 just blow through him with far superior athleticism and physicality.

My real hot take is that he should be a 197, but football required him to add size he wouldn't necessarily have added otherwise. His style is far more suited to 197.

Over the years it has been interesting to see when HR packs it in and looks to next year. It used to be Friday morning of the national tournament, but now all but two fringe members of society that post there have ceded through next year. Even with their "dream lineup" by throwing cash at Elam, Cardenas from Stanford, Poulin...every AA 5-8 not in the portal, still a solid 20 back next year. Penn State success has a direct correlation with how early Iowa fans dream up future lineups that will score 150.

Kueter's a guy who could go 97kg pretty easily, IMO. I believe they said he weighed in a 232 for the Penn State match.

I'm guessing that Kyle Snyder weighs more than he does on an average day and he manages to make 213 pretty regularly.

Careful now, that sounds like it could be a description of our board sometimes. They say pride cometh before the fall.

OTOH, they also say evolve or die. And I love Cael’s evolution of PSU wrestling, and the forecast for its continuation into the future.

Long may this dynasty reign. So let it be written, so let it be done!

Haha! The thing is most of us Iowa fans don't care about other fanbases or media disparaging us about bringing in 1-year rentals. Do whatever it takes to put the best 10 guys on the mat (minus redshirt decisions since I know you will all start bringing up the Gabe/Angelo situation).

Don't kid yourself ...

Every April HR is certain they will have 4 champs and score 150 points next year. Apparently those projections are starting earlier. The funny part is in their past 150 point fantasy dreams they were claiming another championship. Now they dream of 150 knowing they will finish second.
