Getting beat pretty good right now by Stanford on ESPN+

At this point 19-9 Stanford thru 165. ISU got 6 with a forfeit at 125.

Thought they’d be pretty good but look like crap. No Swiderski at 141 or Paniro at 157 but still. ISU putting Redding out at 141 and he got pinned by the frosh Aiden Valencia. Stanfords 157 (don’t know his name but fun to watch) pinned the ISU 157 who I never heard of.

Echemendia beat Abas via decision

Chilokyan (Stanford 157) was a top 50 recruit and Fargo finalist out of Cali. He beat Kane Naaktgeboren who is the lesser and smaller of the brothers. The other Naaktgeboren had a good HS rivalry with Gabe Arnold.

Thanks..the kid is super fun to watch, always going for big stuff..they showed a highlight he had a pin in his first dual last week against Utah Valley as well.

ISU are pretenders. Getting smoked at home in front of pretty good home crowd.

Norman putting it on old Iowa kid Riggins at 174.

23–9 Stanford

In the interest of fairness, looks like backups for ISU at 33, 41, 57 and 65. Not sure why.

Who’s the starters for them at 133 or 165? Redding is pretty good backup.

Who’s their starter at 133 and would he beat Knox? No one they have is beating Garvin either at 165 off top of my head.

Also. Don’t forget if Provo wrestles that’s a 9 point swing.

Both Terukina and Evan Frost are at 133 and would be capable of beating Knox. Both probably close matches either way. 65 will either be Gaitan who moved down or Manny Rojas. No Swiderski or Paniro

Totally forgot about Frost. They were talking up the kid they put out at 165, maybe a position battle?

Carrol wins by decision and Stanford secures dual. 23–16 going into HWY. No Bastida

What a horrible effort at home opener. Fans come out in force to watch a bunch of backups lose and honestly even if the starters were all in, they still probably lose the way they looked

Possible they may have confused him with one of the other guys? Euton was 10-3 last year but had no wins of note.

After asking around, sounds like they’re (already) banged up and Paniro is suspended as some weird continuation of the gambling thing

Frost picked up a small injury it sounds like. Swiderski can't make 141 yet. Yeah Paniro is still suspended. Euton is the 165 starter for now, once Gaitan is back he could take the spot from him I think

157 Naaktgeboren got the call because he's a shirting true freshman getting in his 5 allotted competition dates. In reality he's behind Johnson and Chittum (shirting).

Same for HWT Herrera. He's behind Bastida and Schon at least.

Not sure what happened with them at 125/133, but Grice is at best 3rd string 125 who moved up yesterday. He lost wrestleoffs against shirting freshman Adrian Meza.

Norman beat Shane Griffith and Gaitan last year. He was inconsistent but certainly capable.

Iowa St’s “real” starting lineup would look something like this:

125 Meza/Terukina
133 Frost
141 Swiderski
149 Ech
157 Paniro
165 Chittum
174 Gaitan
184 Bockman
197 Carroll
HWT Yonger

Due to injuries, we haven’t seen anything close to that in any of their duals yet, but if they do get it together, that lineup should qualify all 10 spots with several AA candidates and is capable of placing 5-10 overall. The rash of injuries so early in the season is concerning, though, and it’s looking more like a lost season so far.

Bastida should take the medical shirt. HWT clears out considerably this spring: Kerk, Steveson, Hendrickson, Schultz will all be gone. (So will Slavilouski, Trephan, Luffman, Snacks, and a few others.)

Remaining: Feldman, Kueter (maybe), Taylor, Trumble, Mullen, Pitzer ... Amos ...

HWT is gonna be paper thin next year.

Koy Hopke will enter the field as well.
