Iowa v Iowa St

Mmmmm...
2023 - 13 = 2010
Wrestling was invented in 2010!

Technically your right. Before 2010 there was something that looked like wres

So now we are arguing over antics of Iowa wrestlers and racist fans. I don't know if I was an Iowa fan I would be concerned that this is the umpteenth time that the issue has come up regardless if it really happened. As for stalling that's the Iowa way look it up lol

an isolated fan yelling something racist isn't a "chant." a chant connotes that it was a coordinated group effort. i would literally bet my life that at some point a psu fan has yelled something racist. is it as prevalent as it is at carver? not from what i can tell, but i also don't think it's fair to paint the 10k fans in carver with the sins of an isolated few.
The initial post was a section chanting, not a single asshole.
James posted he didn't hear it but still, you pride yourself on your argumentative skills and the attempt to compare a group, section (real or imagined) to a single individual or several individuals and offer that up as an equalizer is a huge rationalization.

Just saying.

this is a country full of racist sh*tkickers. i don't think that's news. i hate that iowa has idiots in the crowd. but lets not pretend its representative or condoned. they have 10k people at every dual. statistically, SOME of them are going to be racist. i don't doubt this happened. i've heard similar awful jeers at nfl, mlb, and nba games too. you're naïve if you think the rec hall crowd doesn't have racists too. they aren't representative of the psu program.

the whole narrative is a bit of a cheap shot imo. we've seen nothing from the actual program that would make you think they have a race problem. in fact, one of their top recruits several years back, skonieczny, was run out of the room quickly because he was such a racist asshole and his teammates hated him.

Aaron Brooks is still waiting for a call from TnT!

i can understand the process why it didn't happen, but it was bad process. assad was fresh off a weekend where he beat several highly ranked guys, including starocci. then he went on and medaled at worlds. on top of this, he came from a program with strong iowa ties and had already spent time training in the iowa room. so you have a world medalist who is ascending the rankings, coached by a friend of the program, who is already making trips to your room. you probably feel pretty good about penciling him in as your future 184.

but from a talent eval perspective, brooks was a much better prospect and worth a shot even if it was a long shot. they were actually very similar from a results perspective. both late bloomers shooting up the rankings. but you could see that brooks could/would be special. way more talented than assad.

Cooling on Assad? I’m still thinking this is the year he gets that elusive title. :) Btw, your thread on HR was spot on.

i've never been hot on him, but was more optimistic in the past. he's not bad. he just can't finish on aa level talent and that will keep him off the stand. still taking him over brooks though. like the match up.

Watched this on BTN+ last night with my wife. She has no allegiance to schools but she grew up watching her brothers wrestle and then her sons. She knows what she is watching and enjoys a good match. Her comments from a totally not biased and point of view.

Spencer Lee gutted one out but is a shadow of himself. Needs to find his gas tank before he finds some tough competition.
Swiderski is one of her favorite new up and coming wrestlers to follow.
Seibrect isn't afraid to let it fly another fun young guy to follow.
Durning the Warner Match. "Too many of the Iowa guys are wrestling not to lose instead of wrestling to win. They need to go win these matches just not lose them. "
Most teams would love to have a guy like Cass anchor their dual team. He is a good heavy. Then when he almost got turned with the cradle. "He got sloppy. Needs to tighten up his situational awareness. Know he is up and where he is at."

On the way to bed, "That was a really fun competitive dual. I would love to see one like that every night."
All I can say gents is Damn I married well!

I remember that one Iowa guy booing the injured Penn State football players last year. Man…he was LOUD!
Funny thing about the “it’s just one guy” and “it happens everywhere” defenses…why is it always Iowa with the racist behaviors time and time again? I don’t hear about it happening at Indiana, Purdue, Illinois and they’re all in the Midwest as well.

i can speak to hearing racist jeers at an iu football game personally

Great observations by your wife!

Her observations of Warner and Cass are eerily similar to Dean and Kerk. Enjoy watching both our guys wrestle, but Dean seems like he is wrestling not to lose and Kerk needs to tighten up his situational awareness as well (at least against Cass and other top quality guys). Thankfully though its very early in the season and there are not only more matches to be wrestled but a long time until March as well to tighten up the ship.

Before this past weekend the consensus was Dean is just plowing guys under the mat and never looked better. Now he is wrestling to not lose, needs to right the ship and always wrestles too close to the vest.

Just a guess, but Dean will wrestle to win, has the ship righted and will probably return to looking like the guy who was just plowing folks under the mat.

My way of saying, instead of assuming the wheels just all of a sudden feel off it makes a helluva lot more sense to assume there is probably a damn good explanation that we ain't privy to.
I liked your post. I was making fun of the flip-flopping fans that you reference with the GIF. I think they're funny. They will be in love again shortly!

Do they have fans at Indians, Purdue or Illinois matches 😉?

Thanks Bordy. Don’t believe I’m flip flopper, just an observation and my own opinion of Dean just like you are entitled to your opinion that I’m flip flopping. I think Deans track record of wrestling higher quality competition speaks for itself in wrestling “closer” matches than when he pummels lower ranked guys. Again you and @nitlion6 are entitled to your own opinions. What’s the saying everyone’s got an asshole and they all stink.

It's hard to become a starter at the D1 level. It's harder to then qualify for the NCAA tournament. It's harder still to win an NCAA match. It's even harder to become an NCAA Champ. And even more incredibly difficult to be an undefeated NCAA champ.

We have been living in rarified air with some of our guys during the past decade, causing some fans to go on tilt whenever someone loses a match. Winning at this level is too hard to expect perfection.

Imagine how hard it must be to become a 2x B10 qualifier.
