i fully understand the animosity from iowa fans toward cael/psu - it's a sport and fans are fans. but i will never, ever understand how anyone with a straight face can claim cael and psu win simply because they recruit best.
1) an obvious one - not every blue chipper (Top 20) spells multiple titles. Just as the Altons didn't, Singletary didn't, Fox Baldwin didn't, Derek Garcia, Chance Marsteller, Bryce Brill, and on and on
2) Ohio State has the same average recruiting class ranking over the last decade
3) PSU guys haven't just won, they've won at a ridiculous clip, and they've been utterly dominant. like to the extent that many of them are in 'all time' and hodge conversations. since cael got to psu, they've won 87% of their ncaa semi's and 72% of their finals.
4) Expectations for a blue chipper isn't 'win three national titles'. or at least they shouldn't be by anyone rational. Expectations should be what Anthony Ashnault, Jason Welch, or Micah Jordan is/have been. No rational, sensible human being had Vincenzo Joseph winning 2 titles in his first two years. I watched Zain wrestle a close match at Ironman and pull out an OT miracle against Joey Galasso at powerade as a SR. the next year he beat logan stieber. the next 3 years he was a hodge finalist. that's not just pedigree. that's pedigree + coaching.
questioning Cael & Co's ability to coach borders on insanity. frankly, the data suggest he's among the best coaches of all time.
