You have hit on some important points. As I see it, one of the biggest problems for people that want to come to SC for the game is the availability of rooms. SC is usually able to handle the crowds for big game week... however, don't forget that a lot of hotel rooms were already booked due to graduation. Yes it is graduation weekend as well. I live in SC and have been told that I could make a killing if I was willing to rent my house out. It is my understanding that even the SMU team had to book their rooms in Harrisburg. Hotels in all directions are reportedly book up and getting super high rental rates. Some of the hotels are supposedly asking more than $2,000 for the required 2 night stay. As a practical matter, it should be interesting to see how early the SMU team is going to have to leave Harrisburg to get to the stadium with enough time to warm up, etc. For any of you that have come up RT 322 to get to SC on a game day... you know about the traffic backups that can and often do happen. The noon game is going to make this even worse.First, people have to drive a good distance with a lot them going through mountains. Who wants to blow a significant amount of money and risk having to drive through a snowstorm or not being able to go at all?
And the morons made it a noon game. Almost every other team plays in a large city where the majority of fans live within a 20-30 minute drive. Or they have considerable mass transit.
The cities also have a large number of bars and restaurants where fans can gather before the game, eat, drink, socialize and stay warm. At HV fans need time to set up tailgates, cook some food, meet up and socialize. With a noon kick off they kicked all that in the balls.
What makes Penn State so unique is that whole experience. They said f you for tv money so I will say f you and stay home 🤬
In addition, parking is super expensive (at least $106 for general parking lots). I have friends that had to pay $400 for their reserved space. It doesn't effect me as I always take the shuttle up to the stadium but I am concerned how that will go. I expect a lot more people trying to use that service. Since I no longer tailgate... how early am I going to have to get the bus to make sure I get to the game in time. I can only imagine the demand and how packed CATA busses will be, etc.
Obviously these are not major obstacles when you consider how great it is to be able to play a home game in Happy Valley! We were told locally that PSU actually lobbied in vein to try to have the game Friday night in order to accomodate graduation that was scheduled for Saturday. Graduation has now been changed to Sunday. As great as having this game at Beaver Stadium is... the logistics have been challenging to say the least.
In any case, the stadium should be close to or even at capacity which means we will have as many fans in the stands as any of the other venues. Rather than belly ache about all this, why not just enjoy the fact that we are in the mix to win it all.
