It's official: Trautwein to PSU as OL Coach

1st. Let me try to make a disclaimer that I do not believe I am a "fanboy". I was once a paid-subscriber and was literally run off that board when I stated open negativity & displeasure when Franklin hired Corley (Conley??) to be WR Coach. I was very critical of that hire .... proven to be correct ... yet a few know it alls over on that board blasted me for simply having the audacity to question a hire....

That being said, I think Franklin has made 2 fantastic hires. I believe Trautwein is a home-run. ... Of coarse the proof will be in the coming months when we see where guys like Rucci, Tangwell, Leigh commit. Right now we are solidly in top 5 for each of those studs, let's see if Trautwein can reel in all 3 (a coup) or maybe even 2 of them (still an excellent haul).... We'll go from there. See how the OL performs on the field.

One thing I like about this hire is the NFL pedigree & experience he brings. I feel the best 10-person coaching staff is one that can bring diversity... young guys who can relate, old guys who have experience, regional guys, national guys..... One area I noticed our staff was lacking was "NFL experience". Most staffs have at least 1 or 2 coaches who played in the NFL who can pitch the "I know what it takes to get into the league" angle. Up until last night, we did not have any of those on the staff. This hire brings that diversity. We now have one coach with 4 years of NFL experience. And for just 33 years old, he also brings a very nice resume.

It sucks seeing these guys (Ciarrocca, Trautwein) hired so far ahead of the season. I need them to fail so I can fire them. The Blue-White Game is three months away. That’s a long time to wait.
This is their "honeymoon" on this site. Like most honeymoons.....its all downhill from here!

Well, your prior comment about "fanboys" led me to believe you were very bitter (about Rahne and Limeroover departing). I misinterpreted you then.
I am not "bitter." I defended RR here because 1. I didn't and don't think he is responsible for everything including conflict in the Middle East. 2. He put in 6 seasons at PSU and as such made a solid contribution in bringing this program back to national prominence .3.He and CJF and their families are very close...remain so (I believe CJF is a godfather to one of RR's sons) and I do not believe he was "fired." The criticisms of coaches are generally irrational, hateful and largely misinformed on this board. In addition, I don't understand grown men....who claim to be mentally stable, rejoicing if and when someone is fired (Limegrover).
Other schoo'ls coaches are brilliant and new hires are generally met with the same excitement as the new shiny object under the Christmas Tree.
As sure as God made little green apples, their luster will fade under the scrutiny of the first contest (well perhaps not that early vs a few OOC cupcakes).
I view the hires as a separate and distinct action from the departure of RR and Limegrover. They appear to be very solid hires and I am optimistic about what they can bring to the program.
I am an unabashed CJF supporter, yet the experts here will suggest he has "much to learn." LOL from us?
For someone to suggest I can't support the new hires, while showing respect for RR and ML is like those who cannot wrap their head around being a JoeBot and embracing CJF as the new face of the program. These are not mutually exclusive.

I really like the Trautwein hire.

I see frequent references to his nfl experience; what is the extent of that experience?

Maybe it’s simply that he’s sick, as I am, of seeing these sort of comments in every GD thread.

Seriously.

There are a few posters here that will accuse this board of attacking EVERY new coach no matter what. Apparently some still can't get over the Rahne situation.

And yet, it's funny.......nobody is slamming Seider or Spencer or Bowen or Pry as the LB coach. The reason should be pretty obvious.

Most important position coach in my mind. Give me a great o-line and it papers over a lot of cracks.

Great college career, NFL playing experience, successful early start to his coaching career and from the Eastern borders of our natural recruiting territory
My thoughts exactly. Having an elite O line will make every other position perform better on game day and allow for better recruiting of all positions.

Corley was hired to coach RBs. He was switched to WR when Seider became available unexpectedly and Franklin couldn't pass on that opportunity.

I hope that is true! Just finished watching the Cotton Bowl again and I definitely hope the OC and O line coach will improve the D secondary. Just have that awful feeling we changed the wrong coaches.:eek:o_O:(

Yes Pry is a great LB coach (funny how a talent like Parsons makes for good coaching), but he is being lambasted as the DC. Seider and Spencer are not being targeted yet....largely because they aren't coordinators. Tell me that Seider would have remained untarnished if he assumed the OC role. LOL.
Penn State Fans have rallied in support of JoMo......and denounced his firing and treatment by MSU fans and administration.....please tell me that our fans here are not as vicious.

"Not being targeted yet".

It's probably because their units are performing at the level we need them to.

The offense under Rahne, quite obviously, was not a championship-level offense. And the offensive line under Limegrower, quite obviously, was not a championship-level OL. Reasonable minds can differ as to why that was the case. But those units, collectively, were not up to standard. Plain and simple.

This notion that there's something in the DNA of posters here to attack coaches because they're coaches is just silly. Coaches that coach underperforming units are going to come under fire......just as they do at any big time program.

PSU was 11-2......yet the WR, OL, OC, DC and DB coaches under performed. LOL....Let's not forget the endless criticisms of CJF as a "game day coach"......Pretty amazing, plain and simple.

CJF is just a fanboy, he didn’t want them back either! How dare he!

These guys need a hobby or a girlfriend, but they can’t help themselves so they ruin every thread.

Better o line means more consistent offense, which takes pressure off of the defense.
This is true at every level of football. It is especially true with an offense based on low percentage bombs, locking in on one wr, and drives that stall with sacks, creating low time of possession, exposing the defense that consistently faces large physical B1G o-lines. I am sure Rahne and Limegrover are great guys and made contributions to the program, but the lack of production on offense was holding the program back regardless of the record this season.

You’d think after a couple of volleys, both sides would realize they can’t sway the other and just give up. But alas, having the last word is too important to each’s manhood.

So PSU's record was "better than they really were?"

They should just get out the measuring tape to settle the argument.

Hope all the others remember how excited they were when these coaches were hired. Will we love them in December like we did in January?
That remains to be determined. But let's give these guys a shot. I, for one, are optimistic. The one thing I was impressed with this season, was how well the Minnesota team was coached. I did not watch any of the BC games so cannot comment on the performance of the OL.

I would contend that finally we had a little luck. The number of games that we had significantly less yards of total offense was concerning... even Rutgers had more total offense.

Well unfortunately it seems this is how he measures himself and spends all of his time, so, despite the vast majority of us being happy for the new hires and wishing those let go well, like CJF we are just fanboys and know nothings, and we have to suffer thru every thread being ruined as a result.

Yeah, but don’t forget those terrible two losses. Both road games to teams that were a combined 24-3. The coaches obviously suck!

I have stated that both hires seem very good. I'm optimistic about the future of the program, new hires included. I never suggested anywhere not to "give these guys a shot." In fact, my point with all the coaches is to be less critical. If fans are not happy with 11-2, it stands to reason that most years they will be unhappy.

Never have I seen somebody bitch so much about other people bitching. AWS
Now you’re bitching about someone bitching about others bitching....guess that makes you the ultimate bitch.

We had no business feeling bad about the OSU defeat. Minny proved to be a pretty good team.....and as poorly as we played, we could have pulled it out. On the other hand we beat a pretty damn good Iowa squad.
If perfection and a playoff birth are the standard........lots of luck.

No one has to suffer like Job, just hit the ignore feature.
