Miklus has taken some odd losses in his career. I wouldn't worry too much right now if I were him. Coach Smith has proven that he gets his guys ready for March. He does a hell of a job without getting top P4p recruits, year in and year out. Obviously, J'den was an outlier on that.
Willie is coming off a very bad injury and adjusting to a new weight class. I too believe he will wrestle well at the NCAA tournament in March. Warner is an absolute stud and looks to be very competitive from the git go. I won't be surprised if he never reaches the level he should because he isn't exactly at a place where upper weight success is a given. I say 4 time AA but only one title.
The kid just beat everyone standing in front of him at a tournament. Can’t do any better than that, and it sure sounds some are trying to knock the accomplishment a little. Time will tell how good he really is. Nice early results.
People are doing the Iowa hypothetical as if Warner's easy win over Willie Miklus is more meaningful in predicting his likely outcome as a true frosh than his overtime squeaker 90 minutes earlier over a senior with a career record of 27-39 coming into the season. I would guess it's somewhere in between, which could amount to not a lot of points in Cleveland.

And he lost in the final to the 10th ranked wrestler. Warner beats a 2 time AA and a guy currently ranked third and gets no credit cause Miklus is overrated and coming off an injury which is a year old. So the only reason to downgrade the win is because he wrestles for Iowa? Makes no sense.
None of those Nick Lee comments were posted on the HR.
You have to admit this thread has been relatively tame and polite considering it is the PSU. Imagine the blowback if someone posted how great Nick Lee looked as a topic on the HR. Couple of guys heads would blow off and the over under for GTFO posts would be 23.5. Smart money on the under because they can't get to 24 in Iowa.
I agree to a point. I’m not expecting PSU fans to gush over an Iowa guy on your own board even though one of your fans started the thread. I just don’t agree with people claiming one guy is like Zain and Nolf because he teched a couple guys ranked in the 100s but another guy MAJORS the third ranked guy at his weight and there has to be something wrong with Miklus. No reason to overhype 1 guys results and downplay another’s because of the school they represent. This goes for both fan bases, not just directed at you guys.
I am the guy that started the thread. I did so because I have been watching Warner wrestle for a while and thought his motor and quickness were pretty special. Partly because of him....I rated Iowa's 2017 recruiting class as #1. He doesn't "Look" that strong and I was a little concerned he might have trouble with big 197 lbers. That no longer concerns me.....hence the thread. I have been a PSU fan since I was 10. I didn't graduate from PSU but I am still a fan....a Sports Fan. I call them as I see them. I try not to throw hate or criticize kids. I couldn't believe people booed Spencer Lee at states and cheered when he lost. One of the greatest wrestlers to step foot on a Pa. mat gets booed?? Because he didn't sign with PSU.....really not cool....very weak. I am a PSU fan....but also a sports fan. My advice.....root for your team and stop the blatant nasty vitriol towards Michigan or Iowa or Rutgers etc. Justifying it with "They did it first" or "They do it worse" is 5th grade stuff......and that may be an insult to 5th graders......let's do better. Sorry......I wish I could agree with you but the video of the match is quite clear. That is exactly what happened in Hershey. Watch the video. Check Spencer Lee's comments. It was not a good look. I am certain ( I hope ) that it was not the reflection of the majority....but it definitely happened.

Don't have to watch the video because I was there and it is quite obvious you weren't with your take but I get that the ride from Cedat Falls may be too long so I'll give you a pass.
And I prefer not to have my take colored listening to the comments of an 18 year old kid who just lost for the first time in the biggest match of his career as the crowd gave a standing ovation for his opponent. Tough spot for him but his view of what happened up there is a little skewed.

Especially because the overdog a year before had been a little cheap at the end of their match that year and was known for throwing his headgear when he didn’t crush a guy as much as he thought he should have.

I'm sure Spencer's take on how people reacted to his loss is a little more accurate than yours as a fan in one corner of the arena. Or are you more aware of what people said to Spencer than he is?
Also, was there really a standing o? That's insane/ridiculous if so. I've only seen standing o in Iowa for 4 timers. A standing o because Desantos beat the most storied hs wrestler in PA history when he was injured and sick?

I imagine psychologists would disagree with you. Emotions often cloud our judgment and perceptions.
No, they would have cheered for a four time undefeated wrestler or the slayer of a 4-timer. The fact that they would cheer for David on the one hand, and Goliath on the other hand is common in sports.

The reality is, there were thousands of people there. Sure some were cheering Desantos win. I can guarantee a good handful were cheering Spencer's loss.
When he beats an undefeated wrestler, yes! Did Larry Owing get a standing ovation when he beat a 181-0 Dan Gable to become a one time champ? I don't know, but I reckon he did.

Lol I've been to the state tournament in Iowa probably 25 times and don't recall ever seeing a standing o for anything other than 4x champ.
Probably more a reflection of the Iowa fan than the merit of such an action.

You're going to sit here and tell me straight faced that no one in that arena was celebrating Spencer Lee losing out of spite to him signing with Iowa?
Why yes, Owing DID receive a standing ovation, both after victory and while receiving his medal.
No more or less than people cheering for Gable to lose against Owing. Such is life. I honestly don't believe more than a few people used the PSU angle to boo Spencer. Mountain meet molehill.
