Julian Fleming

I am remember when the Ismail brothers both picked different schools .I believe we knocked of Notre Dame when Rocket was on the team in 1990
You are not out there playing twiddle de winks, but he got hurt in the first quarter. When the game was on the line in the fourth against #2 Florida State they pitch the ball to the rocket and he was gone untouched for 75 yards.

Will be interesting if he stays solid if Fields underperforms....I always thought Meryer's offense did not get enough out of his WRs, wonder if Day will be better.

I think that many people have underestimated the positive effect that the Hartline hire has had on OSU. Granted Mickey mouse would have been an improvement over Zack Smith. That said Not only has the OSU receivers dramatically stepped up their game but Hartline appears to relate well to recruits.

He's gone... Please no more posts on this kid that loves attention/ Story was over several weeks ago. No more Flemings threads please. We are just making him think we can.t live without him and quite frankly. we will be better off without his ego.

You have no idea why he may (most likely is) choosing OSU. Yes he may really like Hartline, but he could also just feel like he wants to get further away from home and not have 10+ Southern Columbia grads at PSU with him. Maybe he doesn't want to bump into his ex girlfriend. Maybe he wants a more of a city type atmosphere.

The fact of the matter is we were in there battling for the kid. He isn't the first top PA recruit that PSU didn't get and he won't be the last. If I had a choice I would have wanted the Breesee kid over Fleming based on their potential impact. Both of those kids could be outstanding both could be flops. Maybe Fields just absolutely sucks as a college QB and OSU struggles to get Fleming the ball.

Would you rather win the BIG and get into the MNC without him, or not win the BIG with him? Fact is we don't know how things will play out. So I'm not going to stay up nights worrying about where he goes to College.
His ex-girlfriend? Well, there ya go.

D

Don't be stupid. No coach promises playing time. You'd end up with a locker room filled with 65 broken promises. Good Lord, you fan boys believe anything.

Yeah. Just like they never promise kids they will play their position of choice ... or that they will be at the school for kids duration of his career

Yeah. Just like they never promise kids a chance to play their position of choice ...
First team meeting...."Hi I'm Charlie Brown, coach promised me I'll be the starting center....I'm Joe Smith, he promised me I'm the starting center....overheard by Sam Gurski the returning starting center..."Hey wait a minute." Yeah, How'd that work out. LOL
Coaches might tell a recruit he can try out for his position of choice. Perhaps a corner, who is better suited for safety. But, the reality is that if you don't map out the possibilities, you'd lose the kid anyway.

Yep... that’s exactly how it goes down o_O
And BTW, the quote you responded to didn’t say starter. It’s said PT ( playing time) and it also didn’t say they did it with 65 kids.

You have lbu and joe in your name, but you complain about Franklin not getting the best players in PA????? You obviously don’t know anything about Joe in his later years.
I know Joe got no one in his later years, but everyone accepted it because of his tenure. I follow Penn State football 365 days a year, but don't post much. I know we have a lot of talent, maybe more than ever. However, if we can't beat Michigan, Ohio State, and Michigan State every 2 of 3 games, we aren't anywhere. Franklin has to prove to all of us that he can win big games. That has not happened yet. I still believe the offensive line will be our biggest weakness this year.

What happens if Franklin doesn't prove to all of us he can win big games?

If Fleming goes to Ohio State, he simply likes it better than Penn State. Case closed. Let's stop acting like everyone else makes promises and hands over money.

I never said anything about Fleming. I was responding to your naive belief that college coaches recruiting these kids never promise them immediate playing time

Hartline was the only coach at Fleming’s track meet the other week so there’s really no suspense here on where he’s going. I wonder whatever happened to Mark Webb? Haven’t heard his name called with the GA bulldogs. He was another PA receiver who the staff went to the mat for and he spurned them

Other sec programs need protection from the Mark Webb.

He got hurt cause we hit him and all those arrogant ND wusses very hard!

There was a BIG win against Washington and how about beating Wisc in the B1G game? And crushing Michigan and ahia state in the same year. That was HUUUUGGGEEE. These coal region kids are always overrated, IMHO. I'll be shocked if Fleming does anything at the next level

I don't agree with you on the offensive line. I think we'll be fine and will have something different with Walker there.

The pressure

Bye Bye Franklin! We can't lose to Kentucky and Michigan State ( with a depleted roster).

But ... can we lose to Pitt and Syracuse? Clemson did it already.

How about to Purdue and Iowa ... lopsided losses, even? Oops. The Buckeyes already did.

It is tough to win them all. I doubt Clemson would go 12-0 every year if it played in the Big Ten East.

The overreaction to this is unreal. He's ONE player, and albeit a great one he's still a high school player. OSU lost Jackson Carman to clemson last year who might be the best Ohio offensive lineman in the last decade. The sky wasn't falling there and it sure as hell isn't here over one wide receiver. Even OSU best qb in history had trouble hitting his WR in happy valley last year and it will be no different for whoever is throwing to fleming

I hear Peggy Fleming still has four years of eligibility left.

dream on.........Franklin is here for a long time.....unless he decides to leave for USC or another opportunity.

100% agree. Just look at how Sandy handled Chambers. I know Mens BB is not football. I know football must have a shorter leash than BB, because football pays all the bills at PSU. But by refusing to replace Chambers, sandy has more or less shown her theory on how she handles coaching changes...... she does NOT like to. As long as PSU is relevant in the world of Top 20 college football AND selling tickets AND selling merchandise AND turning over a big fat profit margin ..... than Franklin is not going to be fired by PSU. It would have to be the other way around. Franklin would have to get tired of PSU's political antics on $$$ for football and decide that he has a better chance of winning somewhere else. I honestly believe that a motivator for Franklin is to be the first African American coach to win the National Championship. But that does not have to be at Penn St, he'd be perfectly happy being the first African American coach to win the National Championship at USC or any other school he feels gives him a better chance than PSU.

Franklin is the right fit for PSU. Today, its hard to predict the stresses that long term relationships may produce. I concur that CJF is 100X more likely to seek a divorce than the other way around. Each fan is unique. I happen to think that there is still a large % of the PSU fan base that still approves of Joe's vision ....call it Success With Honor.....or winning frequently with legit student athletes and good citizens...... and Coach Franklin IMO fits the mold. He is a tireless recruiter/educator and a wonderful ambassador for PSU Football and the University as a whole. He is also very ambitious and should he continue to pound his head against the wall over facilities or top pay for his assistants, I could see a game changer.
When a brand name comes courting and they say "we need you.....we want you...." I hope they don't catch him on a "bad day." I scoff at those who criticize his recruiting failures (he is one of the top recruiters in the nation) and say he MUST beat Michigan and OSU regularly. Because if that's the job description.......who will PSU hire to fulfill that promise?

The Critics refuse to count those as huge wins......they only would have been huuuuuugeeeee loses!
