Junior worlds

I want to see Amos down at weight before I crown him. When he cut down to 92kg in high school, he looked less effective and that was 3 years ago. That extra 17 lbs he has to cut to get down to 197 is a big deal. Look at the difference it made for Snyder his freshman year.
I've no idea whether weight cuts are easy for him, but he does presently look every bit of that 214lbs/97kg. He's a tank but with some real skill and feel.

Sorry to clog the feed with a non-juniors post...but I'd like to contact Tom McAndrew through PM, but can't figure out how to do it. Any help? Thx.

Totally agree, he is a tweener and the cut to 197 will be painful. If he has an Achilles heel, this is it.

The Georgian that Beau will probably wrestle for 3rd is really good. Was beating the Azeri Bayramov early and then absolutely gassed and Bayramov ended up teching him. If Beau pressures like usual he can hopefully break this kid.

As others indicated, you have to be a PT subscriber to initiate a PM. However, I can initiate a PM to you, and you can reply to it. So, I'll do that in a few minutes.

I believe on the Baschamania podcast or Bader show Amos stated that getting to 197 would not be an issue for him.

I still don’t know why Beau abandoned a strategy that was working well for him. He’s got a motor that allows him to give up a couple and melt his opponent in the second period…if he’s on the gas in the first.

I agree that Beau didn’t attack like he did in his first 2 matches but I really think it’s just because Bayramov is just on a different level. Bayramov is huge at 65kg, in great shape, and is just a phenomenal wrestler. I do wish Beau would have continued to attack and pressure at a high rate though even if he might’ve given up some re-attacks. He just definitely wasn’t going to win sticking with a positional hand fighting battle which is what he did until the last 30 seconds when he opened up a bit. Overall though I just attribute it to Bayramov being better. It’s easy to implement your game plan on inferior competition but a totally other thing facing someone who is better than you.

I’m really excited to see Keegan wrestle the other Bayramov from AZE. At the trials I was most impressed with Keegan and then probably Mendez. Keegan handled Facundo who has proven himself at the world level. Bayramov though might be the best or at least one of the best wrestlers in this whole tournament. Go watch some of his previous matches. Kid is excellent. He took 8th at the Olympics losing to Chamizo 3-1. He is also a cadet world champ in 2018, 3rd at junior worlds in 2019, and U23 world champ in 2019. He has probably never wrestled some like Keegan though. Keegan is a bit funky and attacks from everywhere. Should be a really fun match.

Jesse Mendez has a pretty tough draw as well. Should win his first match but then his second match he would have the Russian who was a cadet world champion. If he wins that he would be in the semis and have either the Iranian or the UZB. The Iranian is a 2 time cadet world champ who teched Stevo Poulin and the UZB kid is also a cadet world champ and runner up. Who knows who makes it out of the other side but GEO and India are on that side of the bracket. I think Mendez is truly special though and can come through this bracket but it’s going to be an absolute battle!

Andonian with a fall in the 1st round of repechage.
Washington loses 7-6. Gassed and gave up a 6-1 lead.
Hawks with a 12-1 1st round TF

Washington with I’m sorry to say but a really horrible performance. Went upn6-0 and then absolutely broke. Gave up 7 straight step outs to lose. Absolutely broke!

Elam with the 8-3 win. Good controlled match. Elam is so long and a good finisher. His last takedown he was completely stretched out but got his hands locked on a single and drove up into good position and got the finish for the last 2 points.

Yikes. I didin't even see that match it was so quick.
I think it’s only me and you watching tonight. A bit easier for me than most being on the west coast but I still thought we would have more watchers. Probably a tough sell after everyone stayed up for the Olympics

Hendrickson with a 10-0 TF in less than a minute and he is in the semis.
Mendez wins 9-6 with a last second score. He had been losing 6-4.
Hawks loses 9-7. will need his opponent to win in the semis to make repechage.

Jesse Mendez scores at the buzzer win 9-6!! Tight hard fought match. His pace is going to break a lot of people. Was losing on criteria at 6-6 before the very last second takedown!

zzz, I think you and I are the only one watching these early AM matches.

Elam and O’toole were going at the same time I guess. 3 into the semis. I missed the Mendez match as well somehow but he got teched in like a minute and a half by the Russian. Mendez got taken down and turned with 4 guts to end it. Hopefully the Russian can beat the Iranian in the semis and pull Mendez back in

It would have been nice to see Carter here. Washington was sucking wind with his hands on his knees 2 minutes in. 6 push outs in 1:30...incredible.

Keegan O’Toole is a bad, bad, dude.

Down big early again 9-1 to Russia (gave up a cradle, almost got decked), gets his own late after a flurry of points for the fall. Will wrestle for gold.

If you're not really paying attention you at least owe it to yourself to look up Keegan O'Toole's quarters and semis matches. Wild.
Crazy that both matches were basically the same. down early, does not panic at all, pins both in cradles. With that cradle how is he not a nittany lion, lol.

With a minute and a half remaining, the Russian was clearly gassed, wobbling to get up back to center. O'Toole quickly got a leg off the whistle and had to drag Khatanov back in bounds; and then locked up a far side cradle. Khatanov flattened out but with the cradle still locked, O'Toole deadlifted him for the pin.
