Elam on to the finals with a 5-3 win.
Hendrickson loses 5-5. He was in on a winning TD at the end but did not finish in time.

With a minute and a half remaining, the Russian was clearly gassed, wobbling to get up back to center. O'Toole quickly got a leg off the whistle and had to drag Khatanov back in bounds; and then locked up a far side cradle. Khatanov flattened out but with the cradle still locked, O'Toole deadlifted him for the pin.
So deadlifting isn’t as useless as we thought?

Mizzou is having themselves a day. Elam also takes out a russian, in a chippy battle.

Hendrickson (125kg) had a nice showing but falls late against Iran. Had criteria but gave up a step out with 16 seconds left, and then came close to getting a late TD but not quite enough.

On the review they actually gave Iran two on an exposure off that Hendrickson TD (which I think was right), plus the failed challenge, making the final result 8-5.

just saw a full nelson in the 57kg match.... didn't know that was legal...even in FS. Learning something every day!

Great final at 57kg, questionable scoring in the end, not clear why Russia wasn't only given a reversal point.

That 57kg 1-2 match was wild.

Beau's opponent literally has gray hair in his beard.

How the hell did the Russian come back from 0-9 in the 2nd at 65kg? I was filling out a tax form waiting for Beau's match and the score was 11-11 with the Russian ahead. What happened?

Crazy that both matches were basically the same. down early, does not panic at all, pins both in cradles. With that cradle how is he not a nittany lion, lol.
All the smartest people told us folk hinders free.

Beau v Akhmedov (TJK)
  • Beau gives up a leg, gets laced once, tries a chin whip but it's grounded. Down 4-0.
  • Break. No shots by Beau through one.
  • Beau looking for some offense off a front headlock, but lets it go.
  • Back to the front headlock, looking to go behind but Akhmedov too fast.
  • 1:20 remaining Akhmedov on shot clock.
  • 4-1 but under a minute left.
  • Beau with a single that he turns into 4 under 20 left! 5-4!
  • Beau gives up a leg but manages to dance out of it. Late garbage time takedown makes it 7-4.
  • Gutsy match by a smiling Beau.

Beau not bringing the pace.

On his ONE leg attack, he gets 5 to make it 5-4 with 15 left. Tajik gets in on his leg, Beau fends him off, gets two more right at the buzzer for a 7-4 win.

I wonder if wrestling with great counter wrestlers like RBY and N. Lee has made Beau leery of leg attacks. He seems to mostly generate offense off go-behinds.

We'll see if that continues in folk.

That might be a strategy in free -- go-behinds often lead to bombs.

Or, his opponent was very good. He generated lots of offense in his first two matches. You seem a bit salty on Beau?

There could be some truth to this. But remember that this is Worlds. Just enjoy the fact that he was generating points and is bringing home a medal.

I know that I would be thrilled if the Hawkeyes had a wrestler that took Bronze!

If you're not really paying attention you at least owe it to yourself to look up Keegan O'Toole's quarters and semis matches. Wild.
I haven’t been getting up to watch these matches, but plan to catch them later on Flo.

Based on the descriptions here I watched O’Toole’s matches first. He is a treat to watch wrestle. A variety of neutral attacks, high pace, scrambling, scoring on top, pinner. He has all the tools.

He's definitely on the podium next year. He's that good.

So are you saying he has all of the O tools at his disposal?

Quite the opposite. I think he'll be an AA this year.

I have no clue what the manning at 141-149 will be this season, but I think we'll get 30-35 points there.
