Kyle Conel

What little I have watched of Beard he looks the part of yet another point scoring machine. I think an additional year of waiting may be worth it if he can be patient. I won't be shocked if he and Brooks are similar career wise to DT/ER or JN/BN. RBY is like them too but was forced into early duty. That is one heck of a class! Snacks and Joe Lee could be monsters too.

That is not a 50 caliber weapon. Rather, it looks to be the 30 mm Gatling auto cannon "tank killer" on the A-10 Warthog. It's hydraulically driven (not electric) and the firing rate is up to 4200 rounds per minute (not 6000).

A comparison of the cartridge for this weapon (left) and a more familiar .30-06 cartridge (right) is shown below.

Another Nolf.

That policy would exclude guys who pursue Cael.

Also Jimmy Lawson. And Jordan Conaway -- Cael didn't pursue hm until after Liberty folded.

Possibly also Verk -- weird that a PA guy with an alumnus father and brother on campus didn't even have PSU as a finalist if Cael had pursued him.
The Verk recruitment story is interesting. It does seem verk really wanted to be at penn state and turned down much bigger offers. Really not sure what Cael’s “plan” for 149 next year would be without Jarrod on the team.

And uranium depleted as well. Chemically explosive with steel.

To be clear, we're talking about 2 different things. I meant his original commitment to Iowa State; you're referring to his re-recruitment after Dresser granted his release.

Either way, yes, very happy we landed him.

Depleted uranium (DU) is not "chemically explosive" with steel. Rather, the impact of the DU penetrator on a hard target releases a lot of heat and causes the DU to ignite, but not explode. The ignited DU can in turn ignite fuel and/or other ammunition within the target, possibly causing an explosion.

Ok, pardon my wording late at night. I have seen it in use on the Warthog and because of its density, it penetrates deeper into plating and is highly flammable producing an explosive appearance. In at event, you don’t want to be on the receiving end.

Similarly, if you put too much heat on your Mexican food, it will Deplete Uranus explosively.

I didn't hear anything official, just saw Willie's post near the beginning of this thread implying he was coming.

And Willie did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night. ;)

I heard he takes all his hos there.

I like Conel a LOT. Just think Beard will be more than ready. He's already had an extra year and he's a beast, but we all know that Cael knows best!
WE ARE!!!

Certainly a 1st world problem and overall I think this is a positive for the team because Conel brings a lot to the table however I still hope there is open competition for 197 next season, otherwise you risk putting a less then optimal lineup out in a year when it's going to be a highly competitive championship race.

Conel would be option #1 for next year, but if he can't get back completely healthy Beard would be ready in the wings. Conel would also add a great amount to an already incredible practice partner situation. There is no doubt that the PSU program doesn't need Conel, but Cael likes to have every luxury option available on his fine tuned machine. It does seem like a quality transfer at 125 would hit a need more than 197, but maybe something happens there as well.
Willie Miklus has been an amazing addition for ISU because of his leadership and his outgoing personality. The new transfer rules are going to make it much easier for the top teams to fill a hole, but it may help some lesser teams add quality guys as well. We could sure use Conel to replace Miklus next year!

Exactly. In a tight team race next year and a dual streak on the line, having KC is a luxury. He looks to be a good room guy and could be a great teammate. So why not take the chance.

Best man goes and we are used to that mantra from the coaches.

Personally I love all these first world problems.

I guess I don’t understand the basis for some here being so enthusiastic about Conel possibly coming to PSU, unless as @dunkej01 said, it’s just to have a great “room” guy. We all know (and appreciated!) his amazing run at Nationals last year. But I had the impression that was a bit like catching lightning in a bottle.

His body of work at Kent State doesn’t suggest a top tier performer, even ignoring his injury history. Per WrestleStat, in 2017-18 regular season matches Conel lost to:
#1 Darmstadt
#14 Holschlag
#17 Weigel
#28 Boykin
#29 Striggow
#30 Brunner
#36 Griego
#56 Schuyler
#69 Ariola
#97 Naples

He did beat Shak 3-2 early in that season at the Clarion Open. But doesn’t seem like someone who would ever see the lineup at PSU. What am I missing?

I don't believe you missed anything. Risk/reward.

In the end, I have no objection to bringing him in, as long as it is an open competition at 197. No promises made to Conel, as I'm sure Cael has told him. You have to earn it. Nick Nevills can attest to that, as a two time AA, no guarantees were given to him. In what will be a very tight team race in 2020, if Beard is beating him in the room, then Beard goes at 197. Period.

I have no interest in being on the receiving end of the big or little bullet.

He has had a roller coaster career. Hoping that Cael thinks the guy that took 3rd last year is the real Kyle.

Your missing nothing. Assuming 2 things: Marky takes an Olympic and Shak gets a 6th, then next year is a punt year, so it is meant to protect Berge and Brooks' shirts. :)

This punt year would include
125-Teske
133-?
141?
149-Verk
157-Berge
165-Manville?
174-?
184-Shak
197-Conel
285-Cassar
Heck of punt year, possible not everyone would shirt, or others would transfer in

Bringing him in would have to involve scholarship money. They wouldn't do that if they were considering punting. They would just run Franny Bisono out there every match.
