I have a question for the posters here who live in the Eastern time zone. Do you watch the late Saturday night college football games? Not surprisingly, they tend to involve Pac 12 teams, particularly as the season progresses and everyone gets into their conference schedule.

I ask because I am getting sick and tired of 7:30 PM (Pacific Time) starts, particularly when I am attending the game in person. I find it hard to conceive that a whole lot of East Coast viewers are staying up to watch Pac 12 games that don't even commence until 10:30 PM East Coast time.. At least not after a full Saturday of college football.

Only if it's 2 highly ranked teams. They don't end until like 12:30am, no reason to watch 2 middling Pac10 teams.

If it's a good game, yes. But there aren't many of those in the PAC 12.

Virtually never. Honestly, unless it's us playing, I seldom watch the 8:00 ET games much past half-time. Just not compelling enough matchups most times to warrant starting to watch a game at 10:30

I guess the reverse question is ----- how many Pacific coast time-zoners are watching the 9 AM local time B1G and ACC games? Game-times that consider the local time zone always make sense, and the Pac-12 having 1-2 night games hardly seems ridiculous (though Pac-12 folk sure do seem to complain a lot about "too many night games.")

Personally, during my time living on the East Coast, I always liked the 10:30 ET games. The dynamic of: "The world is sleeping but I am not --- so I get to enjoy some football in relative peace and quiet."

There were some truly GREAT college football games played in that 10:30 ET time slot too. 1996 Nebraska @ Arizona State. 1997 Washington State @ Arizona State. 2005 Fresno State @ USC. The 2010 game between Boise State and Nevada fits here too.

I'm also the type of person who stayed up in August 2008 to watch the Spain/USA basketball Gold Medal game live. It started at 2:30 AM ET. That game was absolutely fantastic. No hyperbole, perhaps the best b-ball game I've ever seen.

Weird thing is: basically nobody has a memory of that game. Truly a hidden gem.

Wasn't that Nebraska-Arizona St. game Nebraska's first loss since the Orange Bowl after the 1993 season? I remember watching that game thinking there was no way Nebraska would lose, they'd find a way to win. Of course, they did lose, but at least for me that's just how invincible they seemed, like there's just no way they can lose.

Yep. I was at Penn State at the time --- the game was shown on KBL. Going into the game, the general thought was: "Nebraska going to the desert, they'll blow them out, the Cornhusker machine will rage on."

The thing about that game --- Nebraska was SHUT OUT. Arizona State's defense (led by the then relatively unknown Pat Tillman) had TWO safeties. Nebraska's lowest point-total in 1995 was 35 points. They had scored 77 (!!) points against ASU the year before in Lincoln. Yet they were completely stymied by the Sun Devils. They could have played 12 more quarters and still wouldn't have scored.

That result was, literally, a lightning bolt coming out of a clear sky. It was on TV at a small party I was at that night. Nobody was paying attention at first, it was background stuff. It got everyone's attention over time, however.

Didn't ASU have a good pass rushing end or am I confusing that with someone else?

Looking it up ---- Derrick Rodgers is who I think you're thinking of. Vaguely recall him now that you refreshed my memory.

Also while looking it up --- ASU actually had THREE safeties in that game! THREE! All against what was then viewed as an unstoppable-force of an offense! Wow.

I remember their defense being totally unstoppable that night. But I think I'm confusing Terrell Suggs with being part of that team. He's the guy I'm thinking of but he was many years later.

Wow, Terrell Suggs. He wasn't on that 1996 team, but what a beast.

Still the all-time leader in sacks in NCAA history, both career and single-season.

If I’m not sleeping, I might watch. After a PSU game, I am often “overfootballed “ for a few days.
I detest the 7:30 starts for PSU.

And how about a KBL reference! Haven't seen that for quite a while. Watched the Pirates win 3 straight NL Easts with a lot of games on KBL.

Who was the announcer in those late night CFB games on KBL? Was it Barry Tompkins. I swear it was always the same guy.

Yeah, definitely Barry --- he seemingly always had those late-night west coast games!

Barry was in the Desert that night in 1996:

Yes, but I am pretty burned out for watching the NFL on Sunday. I usually watch the Steelers
and only occasionally watch another game that interests me. That also may partly
be attributed to my fantasy teams blowing this year.

I do - not actively, but put them on while I’m in bed before going to sleep. Always love the ‘scenery’ in Autzen or at ASU.

I admit I was a tad sleepy after staying up until 1:10 AM Central Time to watch the conclusion of WSU and USC, but it was worth it and it was only on a Friday.

Yep, I usually stay up and watch.

Fonzie usually goes to sleep!
Wait a minute! Did you get a new Fonz?! How old is he? I'm assuming he's a Basset. Maybe I'm suffering from the early onset of senile dementia, but I thought your Fonz died last year and had yet to be replaced.

I call these the bourbon games. I pour a stiff drink, get comfy, and watch what inevitably ends up a 48 to 43 slug fest. After a day of highly disciplined, well coached BIG football, this i

LB - Had to put Bailey (a 14 1/2 year old rescue basset) down on Valentine's Day 2015. Found out a few weeks later that one of our rescued females had given birth two days after Bailey died. All six puppies were named after "Happy Days" characters.

Forty-two members of our rescue eventually applied for the six puppies. I was fortunate to adopt the runt: Fonzie. He's the one that's upper left in the pic, taken about 7-8 weeks old and before I ever saw him.

So he's 2 years and almost 8 months old now and is adorable. Someone upstairs was watching over me because in the weeks after putting Bailey down there were days I wanted to put myself down. The Fonz is a typical basset: moments of energy followed by many moments of sleep; he's silly and goofy, occasionally stubborn; but happy to see any and all canines and humans.

And his best habit: BARKING FOR BARKLEY !

That's right, Illinois. I remember now. Good for you. My memory is going to shiat.

Laf, you forgot "And what do you wear?"

I would try to stay up to watch your Bears, but they’re down 24-0 at halftime. Good night. :)
