Hofstra is not as ludicrous as you may think when you consider that his career plan is MMA.
Among Weidman, Villante, Baroni, and Jay Heron among others, the school does have a history of producing professional fighters.
Hence, if you look beyond just the school, you could say that the move is justified simply because of the outside training opportunities that would become available to him.
Between Serra-Longo-Weidman or Bellmore Kickboxing Academy, you have two very reputable gyms that would benefit him when he moves on from wrestling.
Plus, I believe he is very close friends with the Burkert twins who are both starters at HU.
Of course, none of this means it will happen...But there at least a few rational factors that do not totally rule it out as an option.
