Lawnboyz chain?

Tons of butthurt in this thread.

Look folks. It ain’t 1986 anymore and Joe is dead.
It’s not that simple and you know it.

Despite having zero enthusiasm for the chain, I have zero problems with it. It is what it is, and as long as the players go to class and do what they can every day to improve, the Grand Experiment will survive.

But we’ve always been the “no names, no flash” team, and have been since forever, and it’s understandable if people think that this concept and the Grand Experiment are one and the same. They’re not, but it’s understandable if people feel that way. So don’t throw out the “Joe is dead” line, especially since everyone, you included, know that you only did so to get a rise out of the board.

He's obsessed with Paterno. Brings him up no matter the context. Guessing Joe didn't sign his brat's football or some egregious sin like that. I have no idea what he likes about Penn State.

It's marketing. It's coaching. It's recruiting. PSU has four really good running backs and it's a way to show that off on national TV. Especially in a game like this when all four of them are having a lot of fun. Dobbins is the best back in the B10, followed by Taylor. But PSU has got to have the best group of backs. There's nothing that these guys can't collectively do.

Really? GMAFB! I hope that is the last we see of that abomination!

Serious boomer energy in this thread

Leave this nonsense for da U. Would rather go 0-12 than have the type of team that promotes this crap. “We da Lawnboyz, yo!!” Cant believe this is happening at Penn State.

Haven't read this whole thread, but here's my 2 cents. I bashed Miami for the stupid turnover chain, so I have to be consistent, the Lawnboyz chain is just plain dumb. It's yet another example of "me, me, me!" in what should be a TEAM sport.
BUT, that said, I really do not have a problem with them doing it. It's a new era and we're not going backward. I realize my take is an old-man take, and I'm fine with that. I'm an old man, if 51 is old. Let the kids have some fun and if it helps with recruiting, so be it.

Huhhhh, way to be decisive. LOL

You would seriously wish that this team lost to teams such as Idaho, Pitt, Buffalo, Maryland & Rutgers - as opposed to seeing 18-20 year old student athletes wear a necklace that's smaller than most of the props used at various schools across the country?

This whole thing is really opening my eyes to how other fan bases can hate Penn State fans so much.

Some of you Boomers have a toxic case of JoePa idolatry.

You are a moron if you would pick team going 0-12 over a few of our kids having some fun.

I have not doubt....zero, nada, zilch...that 99% of you defending this "Lawnboyz" chain have bashed Miami for the turnover chain, and other schools for their stupid props like this. I won't be a hypocrite about this. It is awful.

If they start acting like the Miami players, standing up on the benches with the chains, flashing them to the crowd, etc. then I may have issue with it. Wearing it and sitting on bench, I don’t.

#1: if you don't like the chain, then bye bye....as a fan, alumni, or donor you have no right to tell these players and coaches what they can or can't do.
#2: This game is about recruiting and that is it....sometimes you have to do things like that.

AND FINALLY:

#3: If you don't like the chain, then start raising your kids to not need all these things...saw a youth baseball team the other day with a HR Chain....you think 9 year olds came up with that? No, idiot parents that love to brag and show how wonderful they are on social media created them.

EVERYTHING we see is a product of what parents have allowed for years. kids know nothing except for what they have been given by parents since they were young....

What a shallow and bitter life one must lead to be so emotionally invested in a silly piece of decorative jewelry. Bye the way, are you aware that the slaves have been freed and women may vote? Please slink back under your bridge and just resume complaining about the shade being dark and the water being wet.

Remember when the old farts were complaining about recruiting players with tattoos? It happened on this very forum. The "Lawnboyz" chain is a ridiculous piece of jewelry worn on the sideline to celebrate good play. It does not disrespect the opponent in any way, shape or form. It is harmless fun.

Hell, some still judge kids with long hair on this site....this very season.

Perhaps - if you are playing pee wee football.

Things have changed. This is just mild and kids having fun.

Perhaps what? Are you trying to make a case that it isn't just harmless fun or isn't disrespectful to our opponents? If yes, by all means go ahead.
Perhaps you are correct on both...but it believe it appeals to the juvenile-minded.

As stated earlier if you care THAT much about it please feel free to go and lean over the railing at the next home game and tell Brown, Slade, Ford & Cain exactly what you think of their bling. Anything less and you're just pissing into the wind.

Where does this mindset come from that you get to determine what other people do? " I DON'T LIKE IT!"

So what! You don't like it! Do you rule the f*cking world? Other people have different tastes. I don't like to see old white men wearing socks up to mid calf and white New Balance sneakers. With their shirt tucked into their shorts, shorts pulled up to their belly button, with a nice thick brown leather belt holding up your big belly. Maybe I should stop them in the mall and tell them it looks like hell and go put on something else that is a little stylish on. Same thing, right? Do I get to tell you what to wear and what to like?

Dear god, go turn on the TV and STFU.

Relax dude...you just had a 1/2 page rant about what YOU don’t like.

So you're cool if I roll up to you and tell you what you should be wearing because I don't like it? "Oh, so sorry sir, yes I'll stop wearing these jorts and my tractor hat." That's how it would go?

Care to explain how passing around a goofy chain on the sidelines prevents our players from fulfilling the grand experiment of playing football, staying out of jail, and graduating?
It's a gateway chain... /s

I'm not a huge fan of it either but I'm also not upset about it. The team can do what they want to do, it's not about us as fans. I did notice that the players wearing it didn't act like jackasses, they were sitting on the bench with the team as they would any other time. Contrast that with the Miami turnover chain mentality and how their players start acting in front of the cameras with the chain. How the players act is a far better judge of character than any trinket they happen to be wearing, and our players still give us plenty to be proud of.

I am totally cool with you expressing your opinion as I would hope you are with me expressing mine here with out all the “STFU” rhetoric. Again bro, I respect your opinion to be on board with the chains and I would hope to get that same respect afforded to me and others who disagree with you.
