Lee's Letter

Are you referring to JRob's unbeaten 5-0-1 dual record vs Cael's PSU team? Or to Minny's 93 B1G individual champs, 10 B1G team titles and JRob's 8 B1G Coach of the Years awards?

No question Minny has had our number in dual meets. Of course, we did not wrestle Minnesota this year, so your claim is not what you want it to be. 5 Championships in 6 years Jammenz.

And don't look now, but PSU the early favorite and pre season #1 coming into next season.

While we all realize that Specer Lee is a loss for us, and a gain for Iowa, we should also realize that Spencer Lee, will be wrestling for a high school next year, rather than Iowa, and allow me to add, that even if Spencer COULD wrestle for Iowa next year, the current 125 pounder for Iowa will be ranked #1 in the nation, and is the clear favorite to win the national championship, especially since Nathan Tomassello will be at 133 next year, as much as the haters are pleading with him to stay at 125, lmao.

Nathan Tomasello will be the 125 for Ohio State University next season. Their 133 will be Jose Rodriguez or Luke Pletcher.

The Shyster, Tommy Boy Ryan, didn't plan well. Since he went to University of Iowa, they probably don't have a course in strategic planning.

If you're right, he'll go with Pletcher. The Head Tan man don't care bout no redshirts, he's win at all cost.

People rag on him for his "all out" plan last year not producing a title, but the only two red shirts he burned resulted in NCAA individual titles...I'm sure those two families are comfortable with the decision.

Sucks cuz one of those was at the expense of Bo, but at least they had two studs burn a year without it hurting us in the team race.

When you burn two redshirts and DON'T win the national championship, then you failed, REGARDLESS of how either one of the two turned out.

Martin won with nearly no bonus, only two matches, and the Snyder won with bonus, but not in the finals. And more importantly, Ohio State did not win the national championship, and burned two redshirts in the process, and Martin STILL has not been redshirted, and at some point, they are going to have to redshirt him, and I'm guessing it's THIS year because he is not beating Gabe Dean.

If Snyder returns, Martin's not shirting this year. They're a possible team title contender, but not with Rozema starting at 184.

If Snyder doesn't return, it's possible, but only if Tomasello can't hold 125 and Ryan decides to shoot for the future.

And if they can't win a title in the next four years then it never really mattered anyway...plus Snyder could be done if he wins in Rio and Martin may never win another title - can't tell if it was a good call this early on.

Nothing says Martin has to redshirt and as to Snyder why RS him when he could leave at any time based on circumstances? Not a Ryan advocate, but OSU had a shot and IMO he made the right choice. However, others didn't perform to expectation.

Agreed! If Courts and JDJ don't fall off the map, NATO wins it all, and hell if Steiber managed to battle back and AA - they would have been right there. Stars didn't align, so now Ryan apparently screwed the pooch?! The only people that get hosed when a shirt is burned are the ones losing the year - in this case, they both won the ultimate prize.

Not sure why everyone automatically assumes if Snyder takes gold then he doesn't return?
I don't think people are assuming that, but the endorsements and pull would be tough to resist. He could go back to college, get injured and fall off the map(extreme case). Strike while the Iron(in this case Gold) is hot. Nobody knows really.

There is also a case to be made that maybe Snyder would try to be the first Olympic Gold medalist to first win gold, THEN win a second national championship the following year...

Absolutely! It's just a possibility - his situation is more unique than others, so his return to the lineup is not as imminent as most

I don't know enough about the endorsements and what's required to get and keep them, so I can't speak intelligently on why Snyder would go one way or the other. As a general rule follow the $$$, but who knows.

That's cuz your team trains to peak for duals...congrats on that!

PSU trains right through duals, they peak for what counts!

Nice thread lots of stuff being tossed around.
Glad to see amalone didn't fall off the face of the earth:)
Just some more stuff to throw around, it seems kinda funny to me that the great Penn State had to go and find a great coach from Iowa. Makes Bobby Douglas look dam good right.:)

Minni... my man. Why would I fall off the face of the earth? Iowa got Spencer Lee.. I'll take Nick Suriano and be thrilled he's already beaten Spencer Lee, then as aces in my hand... I got a guy who took apart one of Iowa's best wrestler's in the finals a month ago (Hammered him on National Tv) Zain then takes 3rd at a stacked senior weight class in the Olympic Trials. I got a guy in Jason Nolf who will never lose to an Iowa wrestler in his life and I got his twin or clone in Bo Nickal who will bonus his Iowa opponent this coming year and every year after and I have Cenzo Joseph coming off of RS.

And my man... Frank Molinaro just beat one of Iowa's all time best to make the Olympic team. You'd think you got some good news??? I got GREAT NEWS... and next March... I'll put that great news on repeat. And then the year after that... Mark Hall will be plucking Hawk feathers one by one... Whom ever he faces. Penn State is the FACE of NCAA wrestling. Ask an expert in Wade Schalles.

Plus, Zain and David Taylor made the Olympic team. Thrilled for both of them.

And you remember a month and two weeks ago when Mark Hall took apart your 2nd best recruit in Alex Marinelli whom Iowa fans were anointing the next... Brody Grothus. Lol

Please... Go where? The only place for Penn State is... to new heights. They're progressing towards a dynasty. And doing it in STYLE. Maybe you should read Wade Schalles take. The NCAA's that changed wrestling. I'll post it down below for you to read. Iowa is merely looking to compete as Penn State is trying to complete a dynasty... currently. Wade Schalles point to the rest of the teams constantly looking to compete with Penn State is very clear.

I'll share an excerpt:

"As to Madison Square Garden, watching Penn State wrestle this season I’ve noticed that Cael’s coaching style is very similar to A Point Scored is a Point Earned. Every one of his wrestlers are bonus point addicts. So much so it has opposing coaches shaking their heads and wondering how they can close the gap. The answer is simple . . .

Duplicate the Nittany Lions “score more and score often” philosophy or get used to losing."

I'll let the past six years of Iowa finishes at Nationals speak for itself.

Tom and Terry might need 10 Spencer Lee's to beat Penn State. The least you could do Minni.. is thank someone for getting a 120 plus lb bone thrown your way. ;)

Is this the same great coach from Iowa that was born, raised and won state wrestling championships in Utah before going to ISU? Is this the same great coach from Iowa that the great Dan Gable and Iowa/ISU wrestling fans stated was making a big mistake leaving Iowa for Penn State? Are we talking about the same guy here?!?

... who Iowa had to go to Arizona to get.

Amalone has been holding that in for awhile. All Amalone ever talked about was how Iowa couldn't recruit. Aaron Bradley, Mike Kemmerer, Kaleb Young, Gavin Teasdale, Spencer Lee. .. That's just in PA. How about saying congrats to Iowa on the good recruiting lately and look forward to the future battles.. Nope not happening.
Amalone doesn't have a humble bone in his body. Nothing but anger and hate inside him! Must be rough going through life like that.

Nah...he's got to write 9 or 10 paragraphs to convince himself.

Aaron Bradley, Mike Kemerer, Kaleb Young... which one will start at Iowa next year? Remember, they need to win wrestle offs.

Bradley can redshirt, just got back from his mission. Kemdawg will start, and Kaleb will shirt.

And...Iowa was a no name wrestling program (relative to winning national championships) before they begged that ISU wrestler named Dan Gable to coach them! At least Penn State had one national championship before we got Cael to come to PSU!:)

Who does Kemerer have to beat in the room to win the spot? Just wondering, I am sure
that you guys have got to be deep enough to wrestle off, correct?

I recall Tyler Clark beating Tony Ramos in wrestle off at Iowa but they went with Ramos. Guess that worked out ok.

Yes he did and I for one is rooting for him to hopefully qualify the weight because this is USA against the world.
Be a dam shame after he won the trials but can't go to Rio to wrestle. Mike Zadick went through this process waiting to see if some one would drop out so he could go as USA had not qualifed his weight.

No sour grapes from me. Iowa is bringing in some really good recruits. I personally still think they are behind 2-3 other teams at this point...but anytime you get a Lee/Teasdale type, there's a lot to be excited about.

Not just to you, WildTurk, but awesome for Hawkeye-Nation. A rivalry between our schools is good for the sport. Add what tOSU has done, the constant that is Okie State and Cornell, and the up-and-comers like NC State and VA Tech, even Michigan, etc. and looks like some outstanding team races in the coming years. Leave anyone out, Jammies ;)?

Who did Nico and Morgan have to beat out 5 yrs ago? Didn't seem to matter much then.

They won their jobs, just like everyone else. You have to beat somebody to win the job, every roster has more than one guy at every weight. Yes, it matters.

So who did Nevills have to beat out for the job last year? He was the only hvy on the roster and Cael had to recruit a footballer just to fill the spot.
