glad to see he is graduating. I thought he was giving up football as part of this plan. he cannot transfer to a BIG school without a release by JF, is that correct?

had he stayed on the team, maybe he would have been delayed a semester getting his degree - so academically a good decision. he would have been our best LB by a wide margin given how weak this position is right now. I always thought the fact he was back on the team meant that he would pretty much be a starter just because we are so weak at this position.

Once he graduates he can go to any school with a graduate program that accepts him and play football. He was academic B1G many semesters. Will give him a chance to get in football shape too. Good move on his part. Hope he sticks to the plan.

We were all lied to. Deep down, I had a feeling this might happen.

Hopefully he can let go of his past and set himself up for a bright future. Best of luck to him.

Does make you go... hmmm. Apparently (at least on paper) he's a smart kid.

Then he pulls a bunch of dumb sheiss... repeatedly. Not particularly smart.

Hoping he makes all the right moves from here on in.

I wish him the best. I believe few of us on this board could fulfill the demands of being a student-athlete in this sport at this level, let alone excel.
From what I saw of his football abilities including his recruiting videos, he seemed to fit the mold of a star PSU LB. Until this year, even through the lean O'Brien-Franklin years, the team had at least one veteran star LB with the combination of field awareness, pursuit, tackling abilities, and most importantly leadership abilities to bridge the gap with younger players at the position.
I think Bowen's situation broke that string.
I'm not sure who on this team has the potential to close the gap. Even without him seeing the field, I get a good feeling about the Katshir kid...maybe something to do with his playing safety in high school.
I'm also a little suspect of the coaching capabilities. Call me old, but I would feel better with someone having the pedigree of a VanderLinden who coached a string of LBs who didn't look lost from the time they stepped on the field and dominated at every level.

My theory is that he was punitively buried on the depth chart and quit rather than work his way back into the rotation. It’s a shame because PSU could certainly have used him in the lineup. I wish him well in the future.

Scott Frost just blocked a kid from going to Oregon State so...I’m pretty sure they still can.

That was just done on principle to protest his accusations of Oregon State tampering. 4 days later the new rule kicked in blocking coaches from blocking tranfers

A shame that he let his teammates down.....but kudos for him for going after his degree.

Goal #1 will be achieved if and when he gets his degree. I recall reading that this young man had a difficult childhood/young life to over come. In any event, when he transfers, he will need to fix what got him suspended from the Rose Bowl and again last year.

I thought that he was running with the 1st team D when he quit. i can see if the situation on the field is anything other than a meritocracy on results and ability, then i can see why he quit. why put up with a continuous backup role when everything says you are the best LB on the team. starting over is the right way to go. this may also be why the NCAA is moving to the instant transfer rights for players. i.e. if you don't want me then let me go.

BTW - i thought under the grad transfer rule, the BIG had a rule that stopped players from transferring to other BIG teams without a release from the school they are leaving. Didn't Iowa have to release Jake Ruddock to UMich - albeit with some suggestions from Delaney???
