Masanosuke Ono

Yo! So what’s the deal with this Ono? Absolutely fantastic to have him in the room as no doubt he brings some “foreign creativity” that ourguys can pick up on ….. and use in surprising ways against the opposition > > but, is it possible that he could wrestle for PSU? Eligibility? If you know … spill it. Thanks.
I have no idea what's up but know he is enrolled.

It would be hilarious if after the Iowa fans get all lathered up about getting Bo (which is obviously a big deal), Cael brings in a world champion to beat him repeatedly.

Not likely. He's in the PSU directory as a "member," not aa a "student" or "employee."

Most likely he was given a guest badge to access campus facilities.

For reference, my grad school advisor who's now retired is also listed as "member." Active faculty are "employee."
So as a member, is he allowed into PSU practices? Or just NLWC practices. I didn't think without being a student or coach that he could be in the team practices. Not sure how that stuff works .

Dont matter, bro. Check out my gramz working out with Iowa when I had zero affiliation. #665pounddeadlift #loadmanager #notthebuttholebrother #AllAccusationsNoConvictions

Why couldn’t he compete for the Nits? He graduated from HS and just turned 21. If he qualifies academically why not? There are a growing number of students from Japan at PSU so kids qualify and attend UP from there already. I’m sure it’s been discussed and even explored if the kids study habits are good. He seemed to be enjoying himself quite a bit vs. Iowa.

Oklahoma State is trying to add a Japanese wrestler to their roster, the big challenge is getting them into school as they have to pass a certain bar for the TOEFL exam. I don't believe English isn't required as a second language in Japanese grade school (unlike some other schools where you regularly see international students in America such as China, India)

I think he prefers to continue his studies at the school he already attends in Japan and continue training most of the time in Japan as well

This as well, he probably doesn't even want to.

Whatever they're doing in Japan overall is working very well. They make good money as a visiting athlete here then go back.

good point - the world's track and field, swimming, and even bbal athletes go to school in 'merica.

Yeah it’s fun to joke about, but I just don’t see it in the cards.

Not sure if it is still the case but there was a time when being on another nation's national team ate up D1 eligibility. It didn't hurt D2 and D3 athletes and that is why you did see former Olympians and world placers competing in D2-3

It’s 100 percent not gonna happen but I would say that the NIL era makes it far more feasible as it would be financially sensible.

I don’t know what the wrestling crowd dynamics are in Japan, but, as ONO experiences our environment in BJC and Rec Hall ….. it might be a reasonable thought to think that enrolling at PSU and wrestling at the NCAA level might be a lot of FUN.

not sure if this is still the case (nor if it matters. just pertinent to the topic)

but for some bizarre ncaa logic, foreign students aren't (or weren't) allowed to make money via NIL
That was the case last year I believe as that was the talk about the Purdue b-ball center, Zack Edey. He is Canadian so was not eligible for NIL, with the exception of if they played a game in Canada, then he could, while they were in Canada.
Solution is simple, one home match in Japan.
