The biggest match up problem for the Buckeyes is the height of their DB's vs our taller receivers. We should be able to take advantage of this with jump balls and over the shoulder throws. This could be the difference in the game. Thoughts?

OSU PSU
Denzel Ward 5" 10" Gesicki 6' 6"
Damon Arnette 6' 0" Charles 6' 4"
Damon Webb 6' 0" Johnson 6' 4"
Amir Riep 5' 11" Blacknall 6' 3"

Average Height (5' 11") VS (6' 4")

Unless there is evidence of contested throws being won by the offense against this secondary by, say, even mediocre teams like Indiana, I'm going to have to withhold judgment.:D

Its an interesting point. I think a lob pass to Gesicki was there all night long against Michigan. We did it twice. Not sure why we didn't do more. I simply don't know how they would defend 88 on a simple lob pass. Not only is he 6-6, he must have a 40 inch vertical. he was head and shoulders over the UM defenders when he jumped. My guess is you'd get a 65% completion percentage with another 10% being pass interference calls.

As an OSU fan that definitely worries me. It’s always a challenge when the receivers have a definitive height/length advsntage, but more so when throwing up the so-called 50/50 balls. I say “so-called” because if you do it over and over again and are successful at it, it’s not really a 50/50 ball but an effective strategy and tactic.

Between those types of throws and McSorley and Barkley running, I don’t doubt that PSU will move the ball and score points. The key is if some of those scores are via FG vs TDs, and if OSU can score enough to keep up and win.

Same thing vs the UM secondary and that was never taken advantage of.

You recall the UM OP that brought up those "50/50" balls that would never work against UM since their DB's were good and would get their heads around when the pass was in the air. How did that work out?
On the BTN tonight, one of the commentators said that the Buckeye WR's have to advantage over PSU DB's. I guess we will find out soon enough.

We didn't do it more because we did not have. We have to this time.

Just remember, Gesicki only played 8 healthy snaps before being injured in last season's game. He did return to action but was clearly playing on one leg.

From several, fairly reasonable and knowledgeable OSU fans that I know and have talked to, this is their biggest worry
