MBB: 34 to 4 on foul shots attempted...

Part of it was less than stellar officiating but an even larger part was our usual unwillingness to go inside or drive to the hoop. Instead we settle for piss poor off balance jumpers.
our big had roughly 20 pts... and one of out better slashers was in foul trouble the entire game
Well Maryland does have great shot blockers.
When you say "we" settled for piss poor off balance jumpers, you better define that a little sharper. Tony Carr settled for piss poor off balance jumpers. He's done well hitting open threes, but when he tries to force his own shot off the dribble, he's been pretty much worthless.
He needs to get the attention of league higher up. Throw some chairs and water bottles. Stand up and get ejected a few times and make it last 5-10 minutes where the league has to pay attention. terribly one sided calls.
He doesn't work the officials at all. I'm not advocating being a Coach K level asshole, but Turgeon was dropping F bombs on the refs in the first 5 minutes of the game, which apparently worked. Four free throws for the entire game. What epic bullshit.
And the first thing Turgeon does is complain that the 2 fouls in the 1st half on his player were soft. Unbelievable. Didn't hear a peep on the BTN post game about the foul shot discrepancy. I am going out on a limb here and saying MD will not get this treatment in their next game at MSU, and the results will be a little different.
When Carr went inside he got mugged and nothing called.
I had been very hopeful about the direction of the program for years, up until about mid-December this year. I am sick of seeing Carr attempt to play 1 on 5 like he is Michael Jordan or something and cough up the ball time and again. I am sick of seeing Stevens make boneheaded plays in crunch time to lose winnable games. I am sick of seeing players with talent who have no idea how to operate an offense.
Penn State has enough talent to finish in the top 4 of the BIG this year and make the NCAA tourney. But they won't even get close to those goals, because they don't know how to play basketball. It is maddening.

Respectfully, I don't think the talent level matters with this team if there is no distribution of the ball from the point guard position and no semblance of an offensive structure designed to rotate the ball to generate open shots.
Like I said before, I was very patient with the program for years, but this is a mess. This team should be reasonably good. It is not.
The BIG officiating is consistent. We have lost lots of games because of the officials. I watched on tape because I couldn't see it yesterday. The last 27 seconds we had one intentional and several piss poor calls. Their big guy was hacking most of the game. One that stood out near the end was him grabbing a ball (fouling) then going up for the basket and being fouled (really iffy), But if it's 34-4 foul shots you have to have some "iffy" ones. How do they look themselves in the mirror when they shave?
I know the exact sequence you are describing. the MD player probably committed a foul in taking the ball from the PSU guy (was it Carr?) and then immediately dunked and got a very ticky tack call during his dunk....
I have seen a lot of disparities, but 34-4 takes the cake.
