Midlands Brackets & Thread :

Iowa's young talent is pretty good. Solid depth too. Hate to say it.
Regarding Iowa's young talent..
I like PSU's underclassmen at 157, 165, 174 and 184 better than Iowa w/ 125 and 285 being toss ups moving forward. Im glad Iowa has picked it up in recruiting as its fun as a fan, but realistically I can't see them challenging PSU until March of 2020 if they don't do so this year.

Kolidzik just never quits. He beat Ashnault back in November with a TD in the last 10 seconds. Both he & Red are quite impressive for true frosh.

Definitely impressive, but Kolodzik graduated from high school in 2015 and took a gray shirt last year. (He finished 5th at Midlands.) Not quite as impressive as a true true frosh.

Ramos was the same way. And wasn't Evans a guy that got chippy after matches with some shoves?
Yep. Didn't mean there haven't been others ... just seems like it's usually only one or two a year.

Their track record is usually a minimum of two guys a year, which is two guys too many.

I finally saw the end of the Tereo-Gilman match. Tereo clubbed him a couple of times with his forearm. I understand why Gilman was upset.

Yippie. Mich St Northwestern basketball on. Little more than a minute to play. Another 20 commercials and half an hour to play that last minute and we can watch the Midlands.

Gilman "almost impossible to beat", though couldn't tell you if Gibbons or Johnson said it. Tough to beat, yes, though a 15th ranked Terao almost pulled it off in the semi's.

Gilman is a senior and supposed to be a leader.

He needs to find some poise.

If he can't, he's just another Iowa punk - and someone mentally stronger will get into his head and beat him when it matters most.

I honestly don't understand how Jack has as much success as he does, hanging his head so often -- whether he's in on a shot, or on bottom in mat wrestling.

A blue-chip stall ride.

lol.

Kolodzik is going to have to figure out how to not be ridden for 2 minutes if he wants to be the national champ. Kolodzik got in pretty well on a single in the 3rd after cutting Jack, but Jack threw in a nice whizzer to fight off the TD.

Sorensen ..... if he wrestled likes this against Zain it's gonna be even uglier than before

No kidding. What does he stand to gain by holding back so much? Geez, let it fly and see if you can get better. It should be his goal this season.

Sorensen always wrestled that way, glad him and tsirtsis aren't wrestling anymore that's the most boring sight

IDK, man -- I seem to recall Sorensen having a very spirited match with H. Stieber a few years back in a dual at tOSU. I believe it was Sorensen who stormed back with some offense to either win or come very close to it. I just remember thinking at the time, "This is a Hawkeye I can like."

What I just saw tonight was depressing.

Wow, KemDawg and Berger appear to be going to OT, as KemDawg's late TD gets waved off. KemDawg gets in really deep on an outside single, but Berger fights it off. Kem in on another head outside single, but Berger with some funk, and a stalemate at 5 sec. Some great action in the SV.

Kemerer out in 3 secs in TB-1. Berger out in 9 sec in TB-2. On to SV-2.

Berger in on a single, KemDawg shows great hips, and a stalemate with 32 sec left. Berger in on a single and nearly gets the TD, never awarded, and after the buzzer the refs decide to go on their own to video review. Actually, the TD was awarded in real time, and then waved off. And after the review, no TD.

Berger gets ridden out, and ends up losing. Nice effort by both guys.
