MSU Dogs lead for Stevens (LINK)

I bellieve the initial sentiment toward Joe after the first three games was not encouraging. MSU fans were very concerned about his style of offense. I really believe Tommy can make Joe's offense complete for this season, providing Tommy stays healthy, which I believe he will. GO TOMMY, win e`m for the gipper. Best wishes young man, whever you go, my entire family will follow and
have you in their heart.
With Charles Huff leaving Starkville for Bama, Tommy would know the offense better than anyone there outside of JoeMo. Hopefully, he could stay healthy no matter where he goes.

Prediction: Stevens' dad is trying to inflate his stock by leaking that MSU is the frontrunner

What doesn't make sense: you have 1 year of eligibility left, limited game tape, and a reputation, fair or not, of "being injury prone." You have the inside track to being the starting quarterback at a place you have spent the last 4 years. Despite all of this, you jump into the portal very late in the game, throwing it to chance and hoping for a random, but better outcome?
What makes more sense: I would bet money that Stevens has a pretty firm idea of where he's landing before he declared for the transfer portal. I even bet that MSU and Stevens already had a number of conversations prior to him entering the portal, and tommy would prefer to spend his last year under the tutelage of a JoeMo than Rahne

My bet would be they already had a pretty good idea where he was going to end up before he entered the portal.
Yes, your assessments make sense but if you’re right, what’s the holdup?

Is he waiting to graduate?

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. Rahne still seems to be finding his wa

He's still listed as an undergraduate student, so that would be my guess.

Maybe he'll go there for the classes. Yeah, right. What a joke D-1 college football has become. There's actually more "free agency" in college football now than in the NFL. At least the hypocrisy is being removed fully.

By the way, I wonder why so many posters refer to this "student-athlete" by his first name ("Tommy") when they post; it's almost like they're talking about a 10-year old boy.
I'm 70 yrs old in a few months and many of my friends call me Tommy, it's a great name to have especially if one is "a doutber".

Is he allowed to play immediately if he’s not a graduate transfer?

Yeah, I know, the rules are being applied differently, but they’re still murky for me.

No, but he can announce his school choice before he gets his degree (see George Campbell, Weston Carr et al).

Actually, Tommy, Thomas comes from Didymus which means ‘twin’. Greek I think. The ‘doubter’ moniker got stuck on Thomas because he was the doubter, which makes him, in my book, the smartest one of the bunch.

I wish him all the best. He owes us nothing.

Me Too. I feel like Stevens is just trying to get his best situation, he stuck it out with PSU for 4 years, and it's not like he's leaving Penn State Football in the lurch (we have plenty of good QB prospects who will get a chance now). I hope he does great as long as he doesn't play PSU.

In the same way I don't think coach Franklin did anything wrong by trying to have the best quarterback for his team start, and being honest with Stevens about where he stood. This is a win-win, I hope, for both parties.

Few things:

1. The Tiger vs. Tommy name debate ..... Tiger's first name is actually "Eldrick". Tiger is just his long time nickname, that has become his first name. Like "Magic" became the first name instead of "Ervin" Johnson...... So the better comparison for people calling him Tiger all the time would be people calling him Magic all the time. But not much comparison with Tiger vs. Tommy in name.

2. I think what it boils down to with TS is that in regards to Penn St he got his feeling hurt and now he is "taking his ball and going home". I can not believe he is going to get "promised" the starting QB job ANYWHERE ... not at Miss St under JoeMo... not ANYWHERE. I believe what JoeMo is telling him is EXACTLY what Franklin is telling him ... that he has a good chance to come in and compete for the starting QB job. I believe after coming back last year and not transferring last year, that Stevens thought the PSU job was simply going to be anointed to him. When Franklin announced that it was a competition, it hurt his feelings, he got mad, and now he is pouting and mad at Penn State. But, in reality he is going to get the same deal at any other school. Yes... he does have a good chance to win the starting job at Miss St and with JoeMo.... but JoeMo is not going to name him the starter without winning the job. JoeMo knows that the absolute best way to lose the rest of his roster is to name starters without guys winning the job. It's about the other 84 guys on the roster. The other 84 guys have to see Stevens come in and WIN the job in practice. Remember, this guy they have at QB already on the roster has been sweating & bleeding with his MSU teammates for 2-3 years now, he is probably well liked and respected on the roster just like Stevens is well liked and respected on our roster. So having a new guy come in and from day 1 walk onto the field and take snaps as the #1 QB will not go well with those other 84 guys. He also runs the risk of losing his own current QBs to transfer and thus having no depth. No doubt the current MSU guys at QB would get angry and look to transfer if they did not have a chance to compete for the job ..... So by "anointing" this new guy from Penn State the starting QB, Joe Mo would run the real risk of losing a current QB to transfer (and thus losing depth) and also having issues with the other 84 guys on the roster. Tommy Stevens is not worth that risk.

........ So long story short. I find it almost impossible to believe Stevens is not getting the same message from JoeMo and he got from Franklin in regards to competing for the job. It's a shame that it came to this.

Just like they lead for Juwan Johnson and all the other transfers who have not gone to MSU.

Maybe he had a better repour with JoeMo than Franklin. I've always liked TS and wish him the very best!

Doubt it. IF that was the case he could have gone there last year. Maybe he should have committed to Fordham.

Maybe it is just like his father said and he wants to go somewhere where he will start.
