Only 3 mats in this session.

Conaway will be in the 1st group of matches that take place, on Mat 3

Thanks for starting the final thread Tom. BTW, please ask Spencer to announce PSU tonight (assuming he's there)...

133 Consolation Semis
Jordan Conaway vs. Zane Richards (Illnois)

Per 1
JC reaches, blocked. Richards with underhooks and gets behind. He gets a TD as they go OOB at 2:30, 0-2. JC out quickly, 1-2. Thru 1 min. 1:30 left, lot of hand and head fighting. JC shoots, blocked. 1 min left. Now JC with underhooks. 30 sec left. Richards in on a low single but he runs out of time. End

Per 2
Richards takes down. Richards up and out in 3 sec, 1-3. JC reaches, nothing. Stalemate at 1:16. JC reaches, Richards with a counter and in on a leg, they scramble, JC has an ankle, RIchards trying to come up, and the buzzer.

Per 3
JC takes down. Richards throws in the boot (should have anticipated that), and has a cross body ride. Richards up on on leg and does a roll for an esc at 1:27, 2-3. RT not a factor. Richards nearly a TD, nothing. 1 min left. JC needs a TD. JC with a high crotch attempt, blocked. 30 sec left. Stall warning on Richards as they go OOB at 15 sec. Richards has him tied up, and that's how it ends, 2-3.

Richards is tough, and really does a good job of blocking and locking up his opponent.

JC will wrestle for 5th place later today, against the loser of the Cody Brewer (Okla) - Eric Montoya (Neb) other 133 consolation semi.

Cody Brewer defeats Eric Montoya, 7-2, so Conaway will take on Montoya for 5th place.

VT's max points are now down to 115, after their loss in the first match this morning.

PSU is already at 114, so unless the extremes occur for both teams, VT is all but eliminated from the team race.

Collica gets a pin over Depalma (Kent St), which helps Okla. St. in the team race.

OK State's Collica gets a Fall.

This keeps Ok St in the race.

They essentially need to Pin or TF all the way to stay in contention.

Ironically in the Walsh Rider vs Brascetta VT 157 match,
even if VT's Brascetta wins, but doesn't win by a pin, VT is eliminated from the title race.

VT wins, but is out of title contention.
VT's max points are now 113, one shy of PSU's current score of 114.

Now it's down to Penn State and Oklahoma State for the title.

=======

Edit: Looks like Penn State may still be one point away.

The Marsden match vs Walz should clinch it.

think on this.....cael has 7 years at PSU....could have taken at most 70 guys to the national tournament, which we know he didnt (ie hwt this year)

As of today 37 of those spots achieved AA status, not a bad %

with 22 of these being ncaa finalists and 9 champs (+5 tonight :p)

When this guy learns to coach, watch out field!

PS- want to venture if any of the other powers have a better AA % over the same period?

Ty Walz taking on Austin Marsden (Okla. St) in a 285 Consolation Semi. If Marsden doesn't win, the team title would be clinched by PSU.

Believe it's official - Penn State wins the Team Title!

Okie State eliminated from win. But they could tie.

No, that's premature. Okla. St. could get 118 points with pins of each of their remaining matches. PSU currently has 114 points, so if they were to lose all of their remaining matches, and Okla. St. got pins in each of theirs, Okla. St. could still win it.

As I indicated above, if Marsden loses his match to Walz (VT), then PSU will lock up the title.

Already edited it before your post.

Thought NLWC had not dropped the Total points. Looked like it was the same number after a VT match that was not a pin.

I agree Dunke, when Cael and crew learn how to coach the wrestling world better watch out!!!

I think this is probably the most well rounded team we have ever had. What's scary is we could be even better next year!

I don't see it with finalists Morg and Mega moving on, but the future could not be brighter.

Suriano is the best incoming 125 pounder in the nation by far, and Tomasello is moving up to 133.

Cassar may not be in Smack's class AT THE MOMENT, but he has steadily improved and will be ranked during the season.

Gulibon will move back down to 133, with Cortez at 141.

Joseph arrives to challenge Geno and Hammond at a very competitive 165.

That is IF we redshirt what is most likely the greatest wrestler in the nation, high school OR college, in Mark Hall.

We'll see. We also will HOPEFULLY finally have a healthy Nevills at Heavyweight to get us more points.

we wont break 143pts....but this is the best team PSU has ever had...the facts

scuffle champs
Undefeated in duals
NWCA dual champs....puke, yuk, spit
B1$ champs
NCAA champs
You don't need 143 points to win nationals.

We won with 114 points this year....yes we're going to have more than that, but that's all it took this year. Ohio State was in the 100 range last year.

133 5th Place Match
Jordan Conaway - Eric Montoya (Nebraska)

Per 1
Stalemate at 2:13. JC shoots, blocked. 1:30 left. End

Per 2
Montoya takes down. He's out in 8 sec, 0-1. Montoya in on a low single, JC grabs an ankle aand they scramble, and JC with the TD, 2-1. Quick esc, 2-2. 1 min left. JC in on a head outside single, they scramble, and JC gets the TD, 4-2. Nearly a tilt but nothing. Montoya up and then taken back down. OOB at 0:08 sec. End. JC has 41 sec of RT

Per 3
JC takes down. Not much movement off the whistle. Montoya throws in a boot and has a cross body ride. RT now eliminated for JC, and starting to build for Montoya. 1 min left. Neither guy doing much. Stall warning on JC. A tilt but only 1 swipe. Now 4 swipes, and 4 NF for Montoya, 4-6. End. With RT, it's a 7-4 loss for JC. He takes 6th place.

I agree. Don't forget JC. He wasn't the best 133 pounder, but he was tough all year and is going to be an AA wrestling to his seed.

125 Next year, I know Suriano is a great high school wrestler, but does anyone see him as a true freshman next year doing what Nico did.

133 - Cortez replaces JC and he beat JC in the NLO. If he can AA next year as JC did, I'll take it.

197 - afraid PSU sees a drop here. Not sure who plugs in there. Love to see Rasheed there, but probably to big of a jump in one year and Cutch is already a small 184 pounder so I don't see him going up.

But like everyone has said. The future is bright!!!!

Congrats PSU coaches and wrestlers. Couldn't be more proud.
