NLWC in Rome

For anyone who is awake, Zain gets Bajrang in first round, winner of McKenna's match in second round and most likely an Iranian in semi's, while JO has basically no one on the other side of the bracket.

Zain loses 5-4 on a late exposure.

Zain has a real problem internationally giving up the deciding points late after coming back to lead. He's lost that way basically every time. He's gotta be frustrated.

Zain lost 5-4 but wrestled one of the better FS matches I've seen from him. Shot clock point for Zain in the first was only scoring. Second Zain gave up a shot clock point, then gave up a takedown. Tied it back up with his own takedown with 30 seconds left. Then gave up exposure off a chest wrap before getting the reversal. Tough loss, good chance he'll be pulled back in.

Zain has had horrible luck with draws in these tournaments, rarely does he get a chance to get a few easy wins in, he's always seeing world medalists in the openers. And he's losing those matches by inches usually.

Valencia with a cool looking cross-face / leg flip over for exposure. Never saw that before. Dumb question - where are you picking up mat assignments?

Bajrang beats McKenna 4-2, Zain still not out. Bajrang is so hard to score on, reminds me a bit of of Chamizo. You get in deep on his legs and he's still more likely to score off it than you. But McKenna looked good to keep it close. He's steadily improved.

Ringer beats Downey 3-2, I missed how the scoring went. But seeing Downey earlier, he looks improved. Tightened up some of the sloppiness and looks much leaner.

Dieringer beat Downey 3-1.

Anoyone catch the goofy turn from KAZ that looked like a hed lever, Easton tilt, and trap-arm gut all rolled into 1?

God damn I love international wrestling.

Dake scoring fewer points down at 74kg than he did at 79kg, but he's still impossible to score on. Eryilmaz (TUR) was behind him with locked hands around his chest and Dake kind of switched out of it. Up 2-0 halfway thru second. Holds on 3-1 final. Will face Olympic bronze medalist Soner Demirtas (TUR) in final.

Zain McKenna on B
  • McKenna with a low single and he converts. Can't turn Zain. McKenna 2-0.
  • McKenna with an arm drag gets 2 exposure. 4-0.
  • Zain gives up a caution point, I think hands to face. 5-0.
  • Zain gets behind for two, sticks in leg but can't turn. 5-2 McKenna.
  • Zain gets behind again, but can't turn. 5-4.
  • Break
  • McKenna shot, Zain tries to get behind, McKenna defends with a strong whizzer, Zain winds up behind him. 6-5 Zain.
  • Zain gets to a leg, McKenna fights off from seated, but Zain converts, 8-5, time running down.
  • McKenna tries upper body, goes down, Zain wins 10-5. Ten unanswered from a 5-0 deficit.

Here we go again. Any country that pulls this crap should be banned -- you either compete or you don't compete.

And #flonerdthug, who has strong opinions about Americans with strong, familial ties to other countries wrestling for those countries, only has lukewarm opinions about this blatantly anti-Israel crap.

The last time this happened the criticism from him was pretty weak.

Hilarious how this scourge of humanity gets treated clinically, purely as a "how does it impact the brackets" issue.

Meanwhile, one questionable ref call and we'll have live coverage of the earth spinning off its axis -- but only behind the paywall, natch.

And while this is only a matter of competition- how about a LIFETIME ban for flagrant PED use while we're at it? Imagine Lance Armstrong showing up for the Tour de France a few years later....

Fix up 2-1 after 1 for Bronze
Micic also up 1-0 after one for the other Bronze

Edit

Fix loses 3-2 on a late TD. He fought off the TD for 30+ seconds (quad pod, etc). I maybe would've conceded earlier to give me time to get my own points.

Micic wins 5-2

Gilman Colon next for 1st & 2nd
