OG Board and lawyers.

Not sure if you are gaming us on this response (as I think you know this), but the OP used Seth as Seth is sort of Elmo's nom de guerre. Or should I say that ELMO is really Seth's nom de guerre.......

You mean this "Seth"? - hit the link:

Yes, we should really respect the "opinion" of a corrupt, lying, zero-principles, zero-ethics, lawyer "Public Prosecutor" (accountable to the public) who promotes tyranny in his own district in contravention of both the PA and Federal Constitutions - I don't think so!

I understand disagreeing with firing JVP. You can criticize that as the wrong decision made hastily in the heat of the moment with the wolves at the door. But to take it a step further and attribute it to some sort of vast conspiracy involving the Governor, all the Judges, the entire BoT, etc. is simply crazy talk.

Feel the Bern...(McCue)!

Fair enough...so why didn't they make an announcement when they realized they screwed up the JVP decision and a light note of support for Curley and Schultz and Spanier?

I value accuracy over civility.

Sorry. (Well, really, not sorry, but it seemed like the nice thing to say :) )

Yea, using homophobic slurs like "cocksuckers" really shows how concerned you are about accuracy. And it's more about human decency than civility when you use terms like that.

Well, the did kill the goose that laid the golden egg; both literally and figuratively.

Lets review:
  • While Joe did exactly as he should have done, the BOT & Press laid this at his feet.
  • The university is ~ $100,000,000 lighter, in cash. And probably lost another $100,000,000. That's vastly more money than the Catholic Church paid out.
  • The Icon of the University, was crushed. Today, the university has no icon, or brand. Today, when the name Penn St. comes up, most people's first comment is "Pedo U" (good people, not trolls)
  • Local stores paid a huge price. So did the alumni, students and faculty.

These are undeniable facts.

So you tell me, what was the motivation? If it was to "save" dear old State, I'd have to say that they missed that mark. What has been accomplished? And why?

meanwhile, TSM (who was informed of JS' weirdness on more than one occasion) got nothing. The state, who failed to monitor activities at TSM, got nothing (OK, Corbutt got his butt kicked and the state elected an incompetent Gov and AG). Nice job.

The BOT should have placed C S & JVP on leave pending investigation. They should have moved to exonerate Paterno, while the prosecutors did their thing against C S & S. Had they saved Paterno's reputation, they would have saved the heart and icon of PSU. Instead, they moved against him to settle scores and all are paying a public price (but not enough, IMHO).

(OK, Corbutt got his butt kicked and the state elected an incompetent Gov and AG). Nice job.
I'd say they got rid of an incompetent and corrupt Gov and AG.

And your theory as to what the motivation was? Surma's feelings got hurt by Joe? His brother didn't get enough playing time?

These are all pretty weak theories to support killing the goose that laid the golden egg.

You are a light weight when it comes to this saga. Vic Sr.'s 180 on JVP and subsequent rants about the "rat" have been documented and resulted in rebuke by FB Lettermen. Little brother was fond of asking why JVP was still around. Little brother tried to demonstrate that he had a big organ and took control in a situation where, by conscience, he should have recused himself.
At least little brother is consistent and played the role of "Typhoid Mary" at US Steel as well. So, if you wish to portray "Little Brother" as acting in the best interest of PSU, I'm not drinking the Kool Aid.

Really Mr. Public Disgrace? (Disgrace in Philadelphia: District Attorney gives lying cop feather-duster slap on wrist). "Crazy talk", eh? You corrupt, cowardly, wuss lawyers living off the public's dime (and then stealing from them on top of it with all your corruption) getting nervous? Funny, but according to THIS SOURCE, it's anything but "crazy talk" - it's the truth of the matter! See excerpts below:

The untold story, though, is about bare-knuckle Pennsylvania politics, old grudges and perceived slights. It involves a stagnated child sexual abuse investigation that, to some, took a backseat to higher-profile cases and a gubernatorial campaign. It involves a head football coach who knew too little and, still, failed to do enough. It includes a passive school board of trustees that for months ignored a lurking controversy and then, under pressure to preserve Penn State's reputation, quickly fired its legendary coach without ever talking with him.

Through it all, the central character was Corbett. "Something not very good happened," he told reporters on Nov. 9, hours before he urged his fellow trustees to fire Paterno. "We have to … take the bull by the horns and fix it. Quickly." Publicly, Corbett made it clear that he thought he was the most qualified person to fix Penn State.

A 62-year-old Republican, Corbett is a blunt-spoken former prosecutor whose political career has been built pursuing powerful people who, he has said, "believe they are beyond the law." And his role in the Penn State scandal, fraught with potential conflicts, placed him in a remarkable position. As Pennsylvania's attorney general, he investigated Sandusky for nearly two years but failed to make an arrest. But then, as governor, he blamed the university's leaders for not doing more. One was Paterno, who some board members believed wielded too much power. The other was university president Graham B. Spanier, a 16-year veteran and Corbett rival who had become a vocal opponent of the governor's efforts to slash higher education funding.

To some, Corbett relished the opportunity and had even planned to play a role in managing the crisis. Eight days before the Sandusky grand jury presentment was released this past November, Corbett's staff booked hotel rooms in State College. Becoming governor had made Corbett a trustee, and he had decided to attend his first board meeting, after missing the first four. During those days of crisis in State College, he lobbied for the ouster of Paterno and Spanier, ending with that conference call on Nov. 9. And when he was on campus the next day, after Spanier's resignation and Paterno's firing, he celebrated the leadership changes. "Throughout this whole process, I felt he had some ulterior motive," a trustee says of Corbett. "Most trustees felt uncomfortable with his role. It was odd for him to be there and participate the way he did. Very odd."

I found this excerpt relative to Corrupt Corbutt's ever shifting position AFTER he realized that his actions were received significantly different by the general public than he anticipated (and he was in deep political trouble over the matter) to be quite interesting and telling:

"This was their discussion," Corbett said in a Feb. 8 interview with WJAC-TV. "The only thing I said is that they have to remember the children. People may have different memories, but I remember exactly what I said."

"That is a bald-faced lie," one trustee says.

And certainly there was an incredible lack of vision and understanding of where the "let's move on" strategy was going to lead. Even if you give the BOT every benefit of every doubt, they failed to see the $60M fine, the sanctions, the many lawsuits and the fact that they had no idea how strong or, as it turns out weak, the cases against the administrators turned out to be.

I agree with you about their miscalculations regarding the "move on" strategy, but not the rest. I believe a business decision was made that accounted for the sanctions and the fines. The sanctions told the world that not just some largely faceless administrators and academics knew, but the great Joe Paterno did too! Now Emmert may have gone further than they had agreed, but I believe the sanctions were deemed necessary to sell the narrative.

Furthermore, I believe that the BOT had/has every intention of rehabilitating Joe's legacy at the time of their choosing. It's worth too much money to PSU. Finally, I believe that they blame us for that not having happened yet. I hope they don't get to take credit. What the did was cowardly and unconscionable! The real question is what was worth that much money?

So it appears then that you might consider that the vast majority of Penn State alumni have in fact moved on in spite of indynittany's assertion to the contrary.
You should keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool.....

Couldn't agree more. We have your number.

There are 28,000 plus alumni in Allegheny County and a total of 52,000 plus in Allegheny and immediately adjacent counties. Based upon the attendance it appears that the vast majority of alumni may have in fact moved on.

You could say the same about the passengers of the Titanic.

You're really not able to get your point across without calling people cocksuckers or calling another poster a circle-jerking a-hole? I guess for you (and the three people that liked you), throwing around crude words and insulting others somehow adds to your argument.

Thank you. And yep he's a crude, vulgar, and profane individual who resorts to vulgar name calling and posting juvenile and profane pictures when he's losing an argument. And imagine someone like this teaching your kids! Not only was he a PSU adjunct instructor, but according to some of his students, one who failed to provide all the class time he was being paid to provide. Sad!

Big difference in moving on and attending an event in Pittsburgh. I know many who have not moved on and did not attend Franco's event

Yep....look at how upset the class was - - - look at those reviews from the entire class, they must be brimming with disappointed students.

Wouldn't it be AWFUL if your kids had instructors like THIS for all of their classes.

Considering you're one of the few who still believes Freeh even though he has stated his report is bogus, we can understand why you would choose to ignore all the PSU sponsored surveys that show, even with the most generous of question phrasing, that what you claim is incorrect.
