Match Thread Ohio State dual thread - Feb 14

Even though Carter was dominant against Rogotzke, it was Carter's savviness that stood out to me. Rogotzke is great at putting opponents to their backs from bottom, but I noticed several times where Carter did not rush positions where Rogotzke can be dangerous. Carter's mat intelligence is an underrated aspect of his wrestling. Regarding Sealey, I agree with a previous poster who said he didn't look great before the match started. He seemed pale and his facial expressions seemed to show he was very nervous.

I want to see Carter v Mcnenelly.

One of the aspects I love about dual meets is that the unexpected often occurs, throwing a wrench into the fans' predictions. Just imagine if this dual had been against two evenly matched teams. Luke being pinned was probably a ten point swing (Luke looked to be on his way to a major) and that could have been catastrophic for Penn State in other seasons. At least Luke has company, as many great wrestlers have fallen victim to the cradle. I'm just glad it occurred in the regular season and not an NCAA final like Taylor and Cenzo.

Rogotzke = Tan Soldano. They're both junkballers, occasionally get lucky but Carter is far too fundamentally sound to fall for their stuff, for even as much as a single exchange.

Rogotzke is 2-6 this year vs ranked wrestlers, best win was vs #24 DJ Washington.

But he did take Gabe Arnold to a 4-1 OT match, so there's that.

125 - #7 Luke Lilledahl VS #21 Brendan McCrone

Period 1:
Here we go! Straight to a tie up. Luke reaches for an ankle, but no luck. Back to circling & tying up. Luke with some snaps & head tapping. Luke shoots, gets a leg & then the other for the TD, 3-0. Luke is riding & gets McCrone bellied out. McCrone gets back to his base, then his feet, but Luke trips him back down & they go out of bounds, restart. McCrone is still down. He gets to his feet, then drops back down & Luke gets him bellied out again. Luke goes over 1-min of RT. Luke cuts McCrone, 3-1. Luke with a quick ankle pick for another TD, 6-1. McCrone gets another escape, 6-2. Luke drops back in on a leg. McCrone comes over the top in the waterfall position. Luke is trying to come up through McCrone's legs & time expires. 6-2 Luke, +1:17 RT

Period 2:
McCrone selects top. McCrone tries to throw in a boot, but Luke fights it off. McCrone gets a boot in. Luke is still fighting & gets to a quadpod for a moment, but then McCrone locks up a cradle, rolls Luke over & gets the fall. Wow. That sucks. Luke was in control there until he wasn't.

Brendan McCrone FALL Luke Lilledahl (3:58)

Team Score

PSU: 0
OSU: 6
LL is the better wrestler just got caught,it happens!no worries

Arnold is so limited offensively, it’s hard to imagine him ever winning a title unless there’s tremendous improvement.
It’s hard to see him AA without quite a bit of improvement on the offensive side. He is elite defensively but if every match you wrestle is a 1 td OT match it’s extremely hard to win 4 or 5 of those at 1 tournament against high level competition

If Mendez and Bartlett split matches they will end up the #2 and #3 seeds at NCAA. With Alirez the #1. Alirez needs to wrestle one more dual then get 4 matches at the big 12 for an RPI if that happens and he wins the big 12 he's the #1 if Mendez wins the big 10

I know Ant the Champ wasn’t a big Hwt and he beat the unbeatable Gable TWICE. But if after a year of trying to bulk up, Cole is only 221…I just don’t see him being a legitimate hwt. Feldman is a not a big hwt and he looked like a giant next to Cole.

****! Why take down though? McCrone only good position is top

Just saw that McCrone took top. Good lesson for Luke
Don't put your knee by your head is the real lesson. I got a feeling McCrone has looked for that move from that position a lot.

Real good bout at 149. SVN had about four real good shots but just couldn't finish; credit to D'Emilio. Finally broke through in the last 5 seconds of the match.
I thought the key to match was SVN not giving up takedown on the hard returned to mat. He was returned real hard and still kept his grip on his defense. Pretty impressive.

Bottom has always been Sealeys weakest spot. Usually took neutral in high school. Hopefully he can get going on his feet

Or not. Pretty ugly debut for a guy I’m super high on. Sealey isn’t doing anything on bottom but cannon has never once got off to the side. Just straight parallel ride
Maybe he should of taken bottom in high school to learn the effort needed to get out . To escape from bottom is 25 percent technique and 75 percent effort.

Agree. Great to see the kid on the mat. Future for Sealey is bright.
I'll believe it when proven. I was told last year from a very knowledgeable Wyoming Sem. fan that Sealy was overrated. His comment was Sealy needs to dictate the match or he had trouble. I was surprised by comment knowing he won 2 prep titles .
