OK ST @ Iowa - Feb 23

Just getting back from a family funeral so haven’t had time to read the whole thread. I’m sure stalling was discussed, maybe ad nauseam. But it’s hard for me to understand why spending 90% of the match on 1 or both knees isn’t stalling.

Why wouldn’t it be a viable strategy against someone like little Ferrari to just go back to center and motion for him to join you there whenever he stays on his knees? And if he then goes to his knee(s) in center just push him out and repeat the process until he wrestles you standing up?

Ferrari’s style reminds me of grappling, where one guy just lays back on the mat and expects (requires?) the opponent to engage them in that advantageous position. I’m not a fan of that style. It just doesn’t seem like wrestling.

Correct me if im wrong but did Kasak point to the Iowa bench, lift Teemer up, and pump his fist??
Unfortunately, you're wrong. Kasak didn't point to the Iowa bench. Kasak didn't mock, taunt or acknowledge the Iowa bench in any way. He held Teemer off the mat to secure the win & pumped his fist to the crowd in celebration of his victory.

After the match was over, Kasak hugged & shook Teemer's hand, acknowledging his effort, and then went back to joyfully celebrating his victory with the crowd. There was zero "in your face" or negative action towards the Iowa wrestlers or their coaching staff. It was just a kid positively celebrating one of the biggest victories of his college career.

The dual is available on B1G+. The sequence in question starts around the 49:10 mark.

Gonna disagree with this, and with all the "why not start Ferrari now?" takes.

Any idiot knows that Iowa is capped at 2nd this year. Which guy they start at 184 this year does not affect that at all.

Also, Ferrari is capped at 3rd this year. Next year Carter and Keckeisen are gone.

So why not wait to start him when his points will be maximized? He might have a shot at 4x, and the team might be closer to PSU (with enough rentals).
I agree with most of that, but it goes back to your point about Ferrari being the focus. It's a good long term plan for Ferrari but not so great for their likely 174 starter next year. Brands would love to have a four timer and seems to be doing everything he can to get him there in spite of Gabe.

Eh, I don't even know why I care that much. Guess I'm just looking at it as a parent. If I were Gabe's dad I would be pretty disgusted right now. The guy that's redshirting got to wrestle the two best 184s on the schedule and my son, the post season starter and supposed future champion, has to sit and watch.

I think we're arguing the same point. I'm saying that Kasak did NOT do those things

It cones down to how far you think each can advance at nationals, and their bonus capability. Recalling that NCAA Scoring is heavily tilted toward high placement.

IMO in 2 years Arnold has not shown to be a likely heavy hitter in either category. His developmemt is more likely to shore up his floor. Ferrari's developmemt will expand his ceiling. And nationals rewards ceilings more than floors.

If anything, many of us are frustrated that we never saw Gabe at 174. I've been open from the start that 174 Gabe 184 Ferrari is their best lineup.

This makes by far the most sense. That is, unless Gabe can't beat PK.

At the same time, it doesn't take Einstein to figure that there is motivation to have kept 174 free of guys Brands can't beat.

Can an athlete enter the portal at any time or is there only a certain window when the opportunity is available?

I saw something today indicating that Arnold is going to enter the portal, but I'm waiting to see it confirmed by a reputable source.

He must have changed his mind from 15 hours ago

Did he follow it up with "book it"??
