OT: I’m gonna lose 25 pounds by June.

You got in a couple major changes I made. I will have eggs and either scrapple, sausage or half an avacado for breakfast. I can't do salmon or tuna in the morning. I'll mix in oatmeal a few times a week, just so my cholesterol doesn't go too high. We have been eating salmon or mahi at least once a week for dinner.

I've also been cutting down on red meats and hitting the veggies hard. 4 oz of steak instead of 8+. And extra servings of vegetables. I've been cooking asian type stir fry dishes that are heavy on veggies.

Cut out fried and breaded foods. Grill or saute all our meats.
Dr Mark Hyman of the Cleveland Clinic says lean red meat in moderation is ok if it is grass fed beef and not feedlot needs. Good source of protein and calcium. And he loves avocados! Says they are a great food to eat.

I'm not sure if what I normally buy is grass fed or not honestly. I look at the fat/lean ratio and cut for what I plan on making. I'll have to check it out next time.

I like to lightly cook the half of an avacado sliced with a little salt. I throw the other half into my salad at lunch.

Grass fed is usually labeled such and costs more. They grow slower and cost more to raise so it seems reasonable. Don’t know what he would say about venison since it is wild game, would like to ask him some day.

Dr Hyman says that grain fed beef have many of the same issues humans have......high cholesterol, inflammation, and more. Most livestock foods also contain antibiotics, preservatives, and more.

I'm guessing that for the most part I'm not buying grass fed beef. From when I was a kid to recently, we always got beef from a local farmer (or we raised a couple ourselves on our farm) that was pasture raised when possible here in PA. And he didn't do any hormone shots or anything like that. I need to get back into doing that.

I would think that he would approve wild game over a similar domestic animal. It makes sense in that wild game is all natural fed (nuts, grains, grass, etc) and certainly not injected with any hormones. It's about as organic as you can get and has to be healthier than what you can get in a store.

Went to dermatologist on 1/11. Blood pressure was 163/105. Went to primary who gave me three weeks to get it down before meds. Quit alcohol. 1800 cals per day. Walk/run 7-8 miles every day.
Blood pressure normal now and went from 194 to 175 lbs in 5 weeks. Best thing that ever happened to me because I know I can’t go back or I’ll have health issues. Good luck everyone.

Thanks but first responders and healthcare workers are inspirations. I’m just a guy who drank and ate way too much.

Some observations that may help others:

I researched anything to death what diet items were known to lower blood pressure and eat them every day (cardamom spice, banana, apple, egg whites (if you fry them, they have same ingredient as one blood pressure med), red pepper). Eat 4-5 vegetables per day, 3-4 fruits. Average 4700 potassium and 1200 sodium a day.

In terms of losing weight:
-I have averaged 170 net carbs per day. I have done low carb in the past but never really worked for me. You can lose weight eating 170 carbs if you watch overall calories. I eat cheerios and banana every day. I eat whole wheat pasta and whole wheat bread. Haven’t had one processed garbage carb though.
-It is amazing how much food you can eat for 1800 calories when it is the right food. I graze all day on unsalted mixed nuts, toasted pecans (really good), fruit and vegetables. I use a 1/8 measuring cup for the nuts.
-Athletic brewing makes really good NA beer. IPA, Ale, Stout. 50-70 calories per.
-I sautée spinach in avocado or olive oil every day.

Nix the whole wheat bread and pasta. Other than that.....great!

Most beef is pasture raised, grain finished. In order to get the real benefit from grass fed beef, one need to keep the cow on grass for 18 month to 2 years. Most farmers are less than one year and done as it is too expensive to feed over the winter. Less than a year, the meat will be way too dry/lean.

I'm splitting a cow (steer) with my sister, Bebo I call him. We were initially getting him processed late fall but with the Covid thing, people are going out and buy cows like we are and the butchers were back up til March. Bebo will be just under a year when he takes one between the eyes March 6th. He has been on grass until his last 6 week where he get finished off on grain. We were initially expecting him to be around 800#, he's now will be pushing 1000# live weight.

So I went skiing in Boone for 2 days, 1 day of tubing. Skied 5 hours each day burning 2500 calories and I ate well at dinners!!

Went for for a total of 4 days.

248.9 when I left and Came back and I weighed 257 Monday after super bowl. Wtf.
So I went back on 1700 calories a day and lost 1.5 lb a day since and today I’m at 245. Lol.
So that is 20 down and I only have 10 more days to hit 239.

Ordered 20 yards of mulch on tues for restaurant and I will put it all down and that should do it it for feb. let’s hope!!!

So how did your clothes fit when you came back? All that skiing and workouts may have added muscle, you hunk! If the clothes fit ok, it’s all good.

i have gained weight on any great active vacation we have ever taken. We went to Alaska with Un Cruise a few years back, ( everyone should check out their small ship back country adventure travel ) and after 7 days and burning thousands of calories a day managed to gained 8 pounds anyway.

I have enjoyed following this thread and needed to make some adjustments for my health as well.

Blood work and doctor visit on 1/18.......203

2/17 ......... 189.

9 pounds to go.

1000# live weight is probably about right for size. You have to remember, you lose around 30 percent of live weight to hanging weight. Plus bones.

My dad has been trying to find a half for us to split 3 ways. He wants to do all the processing and cutting ourselves. It will probably be fun and interesting, but a ton of work.

Been back to gym but it’s tough to get the same passion and intensity as prior to Covid.

Been doing Cardio only no lifting. I just can’t seem to get motivated to lift.
Seriously. I have zero motivation to lift! It has rained so much here in the past 45 days that when it was nice yesterday I wanted to sit outside and drink a beer!

My clothes must have been bustin at the seems because they fit no differently. I keep telling myself that I’m 20 down but my goal is 45 more pounds by June and I’m not stopping. Will set a new limit of 210 and if I hit that i go back to 1600 cal a day. Never doing this again in my life.

I'm down 20 lbs. My jeans are starting to feel a little loose.

You hit on the key to making this all worth it. Never going back to old habits that caused us to get to where we were.

Good luck to you and everyone else trying to hit their weight and fitness goals.
