OT - I'm Curious... Where did your BWI handle come from?

lionroar (because lion's roar - yeah very original). I'm a huge Flyer's fan and always liked Lindros (88) so lionroar88. My avatar is the C&O Yellowbelly Hudson, IMHO the prettiest of the Streamlined Hudson locomotives that pulled passenger rail in the early 1900s. There is one in the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore, and I have a replica from MTH in Ogauge in my collection.

I've grown quite accustomed to seeing a number of the handles on this board over the past 15 + years, even though I didn't post much until recently. In seeing some of the regulars on here over the years, I've always created an image in my head of what people actually look like.

It got me thinking... What's the story behind your handle?

Mine's pretty simple. I was a diehard 15 year old kid that was completely jacked to start the 2001 season with a rare night game against the #2 ranked Miami Hurricanes, scoring a late b-day present from my dad to attend on the 40 yard line. Will never forget Adam running out of that tunnel.

Also, I like that you can see when people joined.

The August 17th, 2001 next to my handle is somewhat creepy for me... 2 reasons:
  1. I can't help but think of the horrible tragedy that would take place less than a month after creating this account. It was a completely different world prior to 9/11, which feels like so long ago... but I can actually say reading this forum was a part of that world! There's not many other examples of that in my life.
  2. This board has been part of my life for HALF of it!.. I just turned 30 in June.
Here's to the next 15 years folks!
home town & a grad. on the old board i was 70nit

This thread allows me to come out of the closet and make a confession. I am a Rutgers grad, class of 72***. In 2010 I was at a meeting of Rutgers Fans Anonymous and spoke of how I despised Penn State. A fellow RFA member suggested I go undercover and become a member of this board. The idea was to become a regular and then reveal my identity, proving how gullible and stupid Penn State fans are. My deception has continued for 6 years and no one has called me out, so I have decided to come clean. I would have done so earlier but came to like the people on this board and, in the process, realized that Penn State is a special place, worthy of the admiration and respect of all Scarlet Knight fans. I shall go back now and preach this message to all Rutgers fans who will listen. As to my handle, fairgambit, I have told the story before, and would repeat it, but I have to run. It's Last Call at the bar.;)

You would.. :D

Should be self explanatory. If I had it to do over, I'd pick something different, as it could make me sound like I'm speaking for the band, instead of just one alum's opinion. Now, I doubt many people would assume that, however...

My initials (and my high school...convenient) + Lion (even though I'm a Tiger alum...oh but which Tiger?) + the state I live.

I am a big Rush fan and always used By-Tor minus the hyphen for a username on the interwebs.........of course I spelled it incorrectly when creating my account!

Started attending games @ the age of 7 in 1969 with my grandfather who was a trustee. Stopped around 2004 and sent my kids to parochial school instead of buying season tickets.

Can't remember exact start date on this board, lurked many years before creating this profile...........

BTW, I also have the nickname JoePa. Registered it probably 15 years ago and never used it. Don't know the password to it, nor the associated email address to recover it either.

When I came to this board back in the old days, my son was ~ 8 years old. I took him to a laser tag game where you choose a name and they compile your hits and kills. I was busy so wan't paying attention. Afterward he gave me his score card and his name was "Obliviax" which I thought was funny. I'd never heard of it. Later that week, I signed up for the McAndrew board. I don't know what it is. I know there was an 80's big hair band named Obliviax. I understand it is also a dungeons and dragons character, but I think that came about later.

And here I thought it was Cajun for Oblivious...o_O:D

Being an avid flyfisherman, mine is a flycasting technique.

Grew up a PSU fan, went to Utah for the skiing. I was really good at it, Once I got out there, the reality was that I was a little better than average...:(...

Manxome is a "nonsense" from the poem Jabberwocky in Alice in Wonderland, possibly meaning: fearsome

I've noticed another user, Frabjous, which is also a nonsense word from the same poem.

Been visiting since the plotit days, though under a now defunct user ID of Nittany_93 (year I graduated from PSU)

father was a professor of mechanical engineering at penn state. [/QUOTE]
Then I had your father as a prof. Although, i thought he was an Enrg Mechanics professor rather than ME prof

Mine is "professionally-related".

My avatar is admittedly borrowed from the internet, but my Boss even approved of same after prohibiting me from posting an actual chest shot of her "huge rack"

P.S. The only upside to getting "banned" is that you get to pick a new "moniker". This one's getting a bit old and I'm about ready to "move on". Two years from now it will seem like history.

P.S.S. As I type this, we both noticed that something has "happened" to my use of the pearl-encrusted bikini top. My Boss just asked if the Mods are now "banning" avatars.
