OT Sheetz Coffee

Wawa is $1 for any size. All the same price and it’s very good coffee. They must have 8 different blends there.
that price is only during certain promotions through the year. They had one such promotion a few weeks back that has since expired

I stand corrected. But their posted price for a 24 oz cup is just $1.65. It’s still a bargain and the quality and freshness is very good.

I've been told that when Sheetz (and probably every other business) sells one cup of coffee from a pot, they get back the money it cost to make the pot. Everything after that is profit. People need their java and don't mind paying out the nose for it.

I'd believe that.

As an example, I've been roasting my own coffee for a few years. The price I pay for green (unroasted) beans goes from $3-$8/pound, and I only usually buy a pound or two. There are volume discounts and if I buy a 20-pound bag it'll be even cheaper. So, compared to Sheetz or another chain, "nano" doesn't even reach my quantity in relation to theirs.

Now, when you roast a pound of greens, weight loss is in the 10-20% range. Even with that, if I'm getting stuff for $3-$8/pound, Sheetz (or more accurately, their contract roaster/packager) gets theirs for pennies.

Thats probably true. I think places like McDonalds and Burger King make about a 300% profit from their sodas.

I normally brew my own or do Dunkin

I was on turnpike got off at Breezewood not many options.

Take a reusable cup/mug (like an insulated thermos) and it’s only .95 cents a refill - or something like that. They reward people for using reusable cups, and it doesn’t have to be a Sheetz cup.

I think you are full of sheetz! Or, you are just sheetzing me!

Well sheetz did have to “make some donations” “to certain politicians”. To open up the beer market in pa. And now I would imagine are making more “donations”. To have the state create more liquor licenses. So they don’t have to pay more for the liquor licenses to the small family owned business. That they are putting out of business. And then some more “donations” so that the distributors are going to be responsible by law some day to stock the shelves for sheetz. So instead of sheetz having to pay extra employees to stock the beer. Make someone else. So in return beer prices are going to be going up to cover for that. Billion dollar company’s for you. Me personally don’t spend a cent in sheetz.

So you'd rather PA stick with an archaic system of liquor laws?

Doesn’t matter what I think. Billion dollar company’s want to play by a different set of rules. And throw money and weight around. Until they get what they want. And step on the small business in the process. It’s just the way it goes.

I don't disagree.....but it doesn't change the fact that PA's liquor laws are pathetically stupid. People are going to buy booze when and where it's most convenient to them. If Joe's 6-pack shop is closer than Sheetz, they're going to Joe's. Or, if Lykens Market in Bellefonte starts selling beer, they'll be just fine.

Sheetz likes to run about a 26% markup. On the core products. Like the Busch, bud, Yuengling and so on. Since they don’t have to pay someone to sit in a 6pk shop they can run this instead of a 33-35% that a 6pk place would. So now some of the core buying crowd will drive across town to save 75 cents - 1 dollar a 6pk. So a straight 30% drop or worse in business from that crowd. It’s been a major impact for many places. My heart goes out to those little guys that really counted on that revenue. The other places can just make the adjustments and move on. It’s just the circle of life in business. Im just not a supporter of big corporations. Have a great day.

You had to support multiple big corporations just to make that post.

Yeah that makes up for the tiny margin on gasoline, the outdates and shrink (theft) on food, and the ridiculous overhead. Those greedy assholes.

FYI, there is a Dunkin in Breezewood at the Turnpike interchange. I stopped there back in November before I got on the Turnpike. Hopefully next trip you can avoid the Sheetz coffee.

I use my refill cup and it's only 95 cents plus tax so one dollar. FWIW my refill cup is 36oz

This is what I'm trying to research today. How big of a cup do they allow? Can it be a thermos? Or does it have to be a cup? I'm trying to reduce my single use packaging waste as much as possible, so I'm always looking for new ways to do this. Buying a thermos is one solution.

Disagree... what the hell could be more-convenient than a CONVENIENCE store?

Joe’s six-pack shop will soon be out of business ... bars will no longer need to have brown paper bags for six-pack sales ... mark. It. Down.

There are no six pack shops in New York State, and nobody buys a six-pack over-the-bar, either... don’t need to when you can guy a 12pk of Genesee at 7-11 or Wegmans

Sheetz coffee is OK but I HATE the auto sugar dispenser as half the time it doesn't work and/or it doesn't put out a full packet of sugar so you never know how much you are actually putting into it. Plus, I like the brown raw sugar packets better than the regular sugar and Sheetz doesn't have them. For someone who goes to both pretty frequently (office in both Philly and Pittsburgh), WaWa coffee is better than Sheetz coffee. Dunkin Donuts has the best coffee, but is also the most expensive and the amount of sugar they put in the coffee is insane.

You're right about the sugar dispensers. Gimme the packets every time. At least they don't have the stupid little creamers that some convenience stores use. Whoever invented the things should be shot.
