Opening line was -12. So the early money flow was in favor of PSU; hence the widening of the spread to attract some "opposing interest"??
I always thought it would be interesting to hear the opinions of professional sports gamblers during the week, especially as to what they see and how they bet PSU.
All depends on how you define "opener". Betonline did open it at 13.5, and they're the first to put up numbers usually. However, they open with very small limits (I'd guess $250 on NCAAF), so many ignore their numbers and wait until the bigger books open. Both Pinnacle and bookmaker opened at 13, so that's probably what I'd consider the opener.
If it's at home, we easily cover. No such thing as an easy cover on the road.
Michigan @Iowa last year will be fresh in minds of many this week but I still don't see how Iowa outscores PSU unless turnovers become a big problem.

Right. It's our first home game and the first against a quality opponent. In addition they will have revenge on their minds from last year

Since 2012, Iowa has been under .500 each season at home ATS. You have to go back to 2011 when they were 4-3 ATS to have a winning record.
Penn State was 4-0-1 ATS in road games back in 2012 and then 3 years of sanctions happened. Flash forward to 2016 and they were 4-1 ATS on the road. Translation: they are strong cover candidates with a full roster.
The night game element swings in Iowa's favor, but the opponent coming to town (#4 ranked) swings that back. PSU is playing first road game of season - might be a slow start. I don't see Iowa putting up the points here to cover once PSU starts to score in the 2nd quarter and beyond.
Give me PSU -13.5 and the UNDER in this one.
