It’s not a 1 to 1 comparison but Van Ness’ season reminds me a RBY’s true freshman year. Very good but not quite at the elite level. But you can see the process there to become an elite kid.

It's not a bad comparison. RBY had that breakout win over Pletcher in the dual, and after that was a legit podium contender in a loaded weight.

Van Ness hasn't had his breakout win yet, but it feels inevitable. Nobody's going to want to draw him at nationals.
