Penn State vs Maryland Post-Dual Presser with Cael Sanderson, Shayne Van Ness and Levi Haines

Good stuff as always.

Was it me or did Seth’s acknowledgment/wave to the crowd after his pin look like a goodbye appreciation?

Imagine how fun matches vs Iowa would be if Iowa attacked half as much as Rutgers or Maryland.

Steen: watching him early and up to his win vs MSU…he has lots of promise and is really just undersized. Since that time, something is playing in head. He has lost aggression. Just couldn’t pull a trigger on what looked like decent setups. I hope he rebounds.

Glad Maryland attacked. It stops the stalling catcalls.

Funny on Starocci and coaches response to his pushout stall call. Kinda “yeah. I did. I planned it. Don’t care.” Lol.

I’m unclear why Goodale used his challenge on the TD call? Even if you decided the counter grasp of the leg constituted no TD, the back exposure was at least 4 seconds and TD criteria.

BB: funny the talk this week about his single leg to cradle move. Well….if you were on the side of “it hasn’t cost him a TD” you just saw it happen. Lol.

And why on earth did BB look at the clock to earn his riding time with 25 seconds to go and then immediately let his guy up? At 5-2 he’s not going to execute 6 TD’s and release in 25 seconds. Instead a wild flurry could end up in worse. Just don’t know what he was thinking.

Donovan Ball is good. Period.

RBY…..when wrestling becomes a comedy, cause that last period surely was.

Seth’s a senior so it probably was. If he wants to wrestle I think he has another year but it would likely be elsewhere if that’s the case.

Seth's eligibility
19-20: Wrestled
20-21: Didn't Count
21-22: Wrestled at Scuffle
22-23: Wrestled

He would have one more year, think he might be ready to move on though. If he wanted to preserve eligibility he would probably have redshirted one of the last 2 years but I think he went at the Scuffle attached.

Don't remember ever hearing Cael be so outwardly confident of future performances. This is not a good sign for the rest of NCAA wrestling.
Someone needs to tell him that HR has already foreseen the tournament and we only have 5 AAs (our young guys aren't ready, Bartlett is going to get bounced early) and 0 champs (just law of averages, our guys can't keep repeating their past March performances) and Iowa will counter with 3 champs and 10 AAs to win comfortably.

I get the feeling that SVN really enjoys the whole experience. Watching him answer the WE ARE chant at Ohio State was classic.

He won the Ridge Riley Award in the MD Dual and I can tell you he was really psyched about it, and now he is the BIG wrestler of the week. Great things to come for this young man. As the announcers for the Rutgers dual mentioned several times his blast double is Jordanesque.
One thing that has really stood out to me is his demeanor after his few losses. Going back to Ohio State, he was emphatically answering the We Are chant after a loss.

He only needed to finish on one more of those shots and that's a different match with Sammy. Hopefully we'll see that magic in March. Should be fun!

I remember hearing the story that Cael wouldn't give up recruiting Van Ness. He saw something in him. His work ethic, attitude and of course his talent was something Cael absolutely didn't want to lose out on.

As @CSauertiegPSU said ... it won't be this year after his injuries basically cost him a normal 1st season but when SVN reaches his ultimate potential, look out.
