on social media, lots of folks congratulating Luke Gardner for his commitment to PSU.

I believe he goes to Pottsville Area High School. His twitter status now reads:

"Senior// PAHS '16.... Future Nittany Lion"

As a junior, Gardner wrestled 120. (Well, looks like he was 126 until February, so he dropped to 120 during the season.) He lost to Sammy Sasso (Nazareth) in the semis of the District 11 Class AAA Wrestling Championships, and ended up finishing 4th. He then lost to Sasso in the semis of the Class AAA Northeast Regionals. I'm not sure if he lost in the consolations, or got injured, but he wasn't 1 of the 4 from the NE Regional that wrestled at States.

As a soph, Gardner wrestled 113. He finished 2nd in the District 11 Class AAA Wrestling Championships, after besting Jacob Lizak (Parkland) in the semis.

I guess we'll learn more in the coming days with regards to whether this really is a verbal to PSU to wrestle.

Depth guy to be sure at the lower weights with Suriano and Cortez (and hopefully Lee), but an undervalued pickup. The linked article above says Gardner beat current PSU 133 backup George Carpenter at this summer's US Open.

He lost to state runner-up Sammy Sasso in the semis, and former state champ Jake Riegel in consis -- at BOTH D11s and NE Regionals. He tightened the gap against both opponents at regionals.

His other 2 losses this year were both tight decisions against some good wrestlers: Zach Trampe (Council Rock South 2017, 126 AAA state runner-up) and Caleb Bordner (Tri Valley 2015, 120 AA 8th). A lot of bonus point wins.

His HS coach is the father of Central Michigan 133 starter (and 125 national qualifier) Corey Keener, who was a 2x PA AAA champ at Blue Mountain.
