PIAA State Tournament -- AA on 3/12 and AAA on 3/13

You're right.

Rohn hit the famous cement mixer in the match before Cael's 4th title. Cael has said that move made him nervous, and moreso because Trenge was another Lehigh wrestler.
Thanks. I checked if they had a close match in college, but Cael won by TF if I read it right in NCAAs, so was confused.

It was Rohn. And as above, he Cael famously said he didn’t know he had the win over Trenge until the final whistle because of what he saw Rohn do just prior.

Vance finished 2nd last year.

Meanwhile, Schon beat McChesney 6-4 in the other semi.

I've decided not to like you. That is one of my least favorite memories. When I was a HS jr, Lower Dauphin came to the Upper Darby Christmas tournament and ran rampant through the light weights. Every kid they had up to 138 was a stud. Seems to me they won the first 4 weight classes including 103. I ran in to one of their monsters in the finals, lost 4-2. They had a kid named Jim Sanders who could have been the Williams twins brother. What a beast. He sent the returning D1 champ to the hospital. OTOH, our 180 pounder knocked off their state finalist in OT so we had that going for us. We had 3 champs.
Another notable bout that night: Bob Funk of Manheim Twp (like the Williams twins) got hammered by Ray Bauer of Haverford, 10-4. He was in the locker room afterwards complaining that he had never lost like that before. I thought he must be a whimp. He proceeded to win his next 50 in a row and become a 2x PIAA heavyweight champ and captain at PSU! Go figure.
Ha... Well, at least my memory is good -- long-term memory this is..;)

I'm a few years behind you; I wrestled, but was just a guy in the room.

Waynesburg with 5 guys in the finals, and crushed it in the team race.

With these wrestling historians here, what school has the most number of individual champs in a single season?
(don't know, looking for the answer---that Franklin Regional team from Spencer Lee's days was very good).

Not sure, but I know North Allegheny had 5 finalists and 4 champs in 1990.

PA officials get a lot of training, and in most years work a ton of matches. And then they seemingly forget all of it on the biggest stage. (That's probably not fair, but whistles do get swallowed.)

Worst case I remember was about 5 years ago -- 126-ish state finals between Jon Gabriel and Seth Hogue (both wrestled D1). Hogue blatantly retreated to the edge, so badly that Gabriel frequently disengaged and returned to center. Hogue was so slow to return that Gabriel had to leave the center to chase him down. No stall calls.

At one point, Hogue slow-walked back toward but not to center -- and not close to a straight line. Big arc -- picture an egg-shaped path. During live action. Again, no call. Gabriel eventually won, but only because he hit a 5-pt reversal in the last 20 sec. Otherwise all of that stalling would've paid off for Hogue.
One of the Ecklof kids (think it was Jeff) was wrestling in the semi-finals. His main attack was to retreat and when his opponent would step forward and reach Ecklof would hit a devastating shrug. It worked once and the other kid figured it out, so with Ecklof retreating to the edge the other kid centered himself in the inner circle. Ecklof stood half way between the two circles and refused to center and engage where his opponent waited for him. The kid standing in the center of the mat was called for stalling.

The only surprising part of that, was that stalling was called at all.

it was a double stall call, but Jeff didn’t have a warning yet. And it was in SV

North Allegheny in 1990, Northampton in 2003, Franklin Regional in 2015, Waynesburg in 1943, and Lock Haven in 1963, and Clearfield in 1941 (had to look those last two up) all have had four champs in a tourney.

HWT quarters:
Nate Schon (Selinsgrove) F Matthew Cruise (Easton) 2:33
William McChesney (Greensburg Salem) dec Cameron Butka (West Scranton) 7-6
Sean Kinney (Nazareth) F Dawson Dietz (Hampton) 3:50
Isaiah Vance (Hempfield) F Julien Laventure (Upper Darby) 1:10

Minor surprise that Butka lost. But really, this is all about a Schon-Vance final.

Also note: Kinney is a freshman.
I commented a couple of weeks ago about Kinney being a freshman. He moves good and looks for bonus.

Rohn from Nazareth hit it losing by more than 10 points.
The greatest turn around I ever saw in a championship match.
Bo nailing Martin was simaler but it only took seconds for it to happen.
Rob had the kid on his back for about a minute before he got the pin
Don Rohn had to be very happy with the move.

It feels like so many of these bad calls come from the officials just not understanding the situation and what each wrestler is trying to accomplish. If you don't have a good understanding of what's going on, how are you supposed to call it correctly? I wonder how much wrestling a lot of these guys actually watch.

I thought the FR coaches were going to lose it in that 138 final. Officials were utterly clueless!!
