Pitt wants to sign Narduzzi to extension and raise

Next year literally can't get here quick enough. The circle jerkers on Pantherlair are rejoicing in this contract and tearing down anyone that is skeptical

Fast forward 10 months from now and that board will be hysterical with comments about what an idiot their AD is.

Now they are wondering why their mediocre recruits aren't 4 stars and Penn States are. That site is truly entertaining

Narduzzi checks all the boxes:
5-7 record with losses to last place teams in both ACC conferences.
Creates new levels of excitement around the program. This is reflected in unprecedented levels of attendance.
Infuses the program with blue chip recruits with classes ranking in the top 60.

I don't understand why this should be important to PSU fans. There would be two great teams in PA - so what? If anything, it's better for PSU if Pitt's decline continues. They haven't been much of a factor with the major in-state recruits this year, and I'm just fine with that. Let them be Temple-West.

...and if Pitt fans weren't such delusional douchebags, there would be two great fanbases in PA.

I did not realize they lost to the last place team in each division of that terrible conference. So either those teams were both terribly underrated, or Miami was terribly overrated. Considering that UNC and Syracuse when beaten were thoroughly beaten, and Miami barely won most of their games... that's a no brainer.

One of those last place teams beat their champion. Just goes to show how pathetic that league is from top to bottom.

Agree....we're better off being able to get pretty much any recruit we want in the state.

And don't forget he is obsessed with one team just like the Pitt fans.

No worries about the star ratings for their recruits. Those on the Lair have all been saying all season that they will all get healthy bumps to more rarified levels once they prove their mettle on the field.

They are the eternal optimists. They took a no-star recruit in order to lure in one of their better ones, who was a teammate. Some actually think that this kid, who is now a 2 star or so, will be one of their greats some day.

Being a "Pitt great" is like being good at the special Olympics.

I believe he knows his football and is a decent coach, however he appears to be a jerk.

Although they were awfully excited when "5-star" max browne transferred to pitt. How did that work out for them?

Of course he knows his football. But honestly, I'm not sure there is any evidence that he's even a decent head coach. The beat a couple of good teams lose to many bad teams routine is a real indictment on his coaching IMHO. And he is just a bad recruiter. I'm not sure what it is that he does well as a head coach.

I'm not certain if he is a bad recruiter or it is simply a case of having very little to market. Do you bring recruits to a big home game? I think his strategy has become to offer.... stay in the back round and harvest kids who are disappointed when their top choices don't materialize. Actually, this isn't a bad approach and will allow them to acquire some fair to good 3 star talent.

Remember somebody posting a question on what impact his 5 star rating would have on their overall recruiting rank?

Who wouldn't want to play for this guy, he LOVES his players...

Pitt understands who they are. Narduzzi is about as good as it gets.
Pitt job just a stopping point. They won’t do better and if he get’s an offer someone will need to buy him out giving the University some money to get another guy who can’t coach or recruit.

He didn't recruit much at MSU, as I recall. The other guys did all the heavy lifting.

I know we all love to bash Pitt, but this extension is probably a good move for them. Narduzzi is unlikeable and a below average recruiter, but seems to be a pretty good football coach. What makes this extension a big positive for Pitt is the stability it provides and they need that. It should help with recruiting and the raises for the staff should help them retain good assistant coaches.

You don't know if it's a good move, or not, until you know his buyout number. If they gave him more years, and didn't significantly increase the buyout, then it's not a good move, period. If the buyout is low, it doesn't matter how long the damned contract is for.

Narduzzi's defenses in 2015 and 2016 were atrocious. Absolutely amongst the very worst in college football. Statistics bear that out.

So Pitt fans are claiming their defense this year was improved. Well, it certainly could not get worse than in 2016 but consider who they faced. They didn't face Clemson and Deshaun Watson like they did in 2016. The Tigers had over 600 yards of offense against Pitt.

This year UNC with a third-string quarterback defeated them so they didn't go against UNC with future first-round pick Mitch Trubisky at quarterback like they did in 2016.

This year they went against Miami without Brad Kaaya. Miami's offense is pedestrian as best as evidenced by their offensive results against a weak North Carolina team, Pitt, and Clemson.

They lost to a first-year starting quarterback Josh Jackson from Virginia Tech who replaced Jerod Evans who left early for the NFL.

North Carolina, Virginia Tech and Miami all had first year starters at quarterback as opposed to the quality starting quarterbacks they faced in 2016. Is it any wonder Pitt's defense looked better in 2017 than 2016?

Huh?

Their defense looked better in 2017 because they faced offenses and quarterbacks that weren't as good as in 2016. Kapish?

You said "they didn't face Penn State this year either." That's why I said "huh?" because they obviously did.

Actually coaches who aren't in demand usually have high buyouts. They are not negotiating from a position of strength.

They better lock him up. It was so obvious from all the recent coaching openings how much demand he was in.

Tennessee was in complete meltdown from the largest dumpster fire seen in a long time. They interviewed anyone with a pulse- coaches from Purdue, Duke, North Carolina State, etc- but never once contacted Narsnuzzi.

And pitt thinks they need to lock him up long term with a raise??? They are so delusional.
Are you sure he wasn't sought by Florida, FSU, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Mississippi State, UCLA, Tennessee and he turned them down? Boy, he shouldn't have jumped now that Oregon has opening.

Just because.

Pitt: Head coach Pat Narduzzi and Pitt are working on a new 7-year contract with a salary increase and bump for his assistant coaches pool, per tweet from Pete Thamel. Narduzzi is 21-17 overall leading the program, including a win a few years ago against top-ranked Clemson as well as an undefeated Miami team this season. Narduzzi went 8-5 his first two seasons, and then 5-7 last year.

Do It!

LOL!!!!

You're right. Brain fart on my part. My mistake and edit made. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.
