Please don't be hateful to the PSU coaches or players.

I get it. We're all frustrated. PSU should have won today. The play on offense and defense was disappointing. Still, the program is ahead of where we thought they would be. They lost to a good team today. Franklin, the rest of the coaches, and the players will be the first to admit that they need to improve and execute better.

The players are young men who work hard, do things the right way, and have given us many reasons to be proud. Please stick with them, and don't be hateful.

Agreed x 1000. They took it to a premier program in their own house. Great game. Lots to work on.

Don't think so at all. Saquon is still very much in the thick of the Heisman race. He did take the opening kickoff to the House, and had another impressive rushing TD.

But Moorhead (and CJF) can presumably see what the rest of us saw quite clearly. Those RPO handoffs to Barkley got stuffed repeatedly (i.e., every single time Saquon got the ball), yet they still kept going back to them, even in the final series, when they desperately needed a first down or two to improve field position and kill clock. The OL was having a difficult time to begin with. The play calling just compounded things.
Not sure if Moorhead could see how badly the RPO on 1st down was failing, otherwise he probably would not have kept going to it, over and over, as it continued to lose yardage and put us behind the chains.

Disappointed in the result but still proud of our players and staff. Gave one hell of an performance albeit in a losing cause.

Huh? So they coached the final 6 minutes of either game correctly, that's your argument? I'm hardly pitching a fit here, just pointing out that it's disappointing for the kids.
It's not as easy as it looks. Rumor has it that every game has two teams with elite athetes and coaches who play to win.

As Coach Franklin might say: We are 0 - 1 today! Who do we play next?

So they're infallible and running up the middle 6 times in a row with a burned out OL facing the best DL in the country is unquestionable else you're a candy ass. Sorry, I'm not a hater, but it's ok to say that's disappointing.

As I said, you don’t want to dwell on this and lose to the Buckeyes twice (I.e. cause you to lose the next game)

Good luck the rest of the way

There's also no reason to think we can't still make the playoff. Other teams are still going to lose, crazy things happen every week (Iowa State has now beaten otherwise undefeated Oklahoma and TCU, Syracuse beat Clemson, etc). If we can go into the playoff decision as a team with only a single loss, to another top 5 team, by 1 point, on the road...well we're still in good shape.

I am sure the kid ARE disappointed. But they were outplayed by a more talented team. They had chances to win, but some key injuries and an all-time best game by JTB 'done them in'...coaches were not perfect either, but they had us in a position to win, on the road, with slightly inferior talent and depth..but no one could make that "close out" play...stuff happens - kudos to OSU...earlier in the year, they lost on this same field because they did not make enough plays.

Hopefully we can bounce back at MSU next week...will not be a gimmee

Please find me a game we lost where the posters on here didn't blame the coaches. So every loss is the coaches' fault? Really?

Exactly...nearly every team in the country would trade places with PSU...and this is only the beginning...this is as good as OSU gets, we are just approaching our peak...once we have OSU's depth, (and that day is rapidly approaching) look out!

Name one real good win we willl have in that scenario.

Nope, but this one is. Some games you just get your butt handed to you.....then there are games like tonight where you have every chance to put a team away and you choose to try and drive a square peg into a round hole....doesn't work. OSU was bringing the house to stop the run yet we continued yes to call a RPO and lose yardage in the play. No attempt to call something and catch OSU off guard or to mix up the play calling....players don't call the plays....that is absolutely on the coaches.

These players and coaches have treated real Penn State fans to an incredible journey since last years loss to Michigan. Winning in competitive sports isn't a birthright. Ohio State has a pretty damn good team and there may be a reason they were favored by 7 going into this game. This thread is beginning to sound like "I loved JVP but......." If you don't like the coaches and their calls....guess what, I promise you they would be snatched up in a minute at about 50 other universities if they are not wanted here. Front runners make me want to vomit.

The band wagon was getting pretty damn crowded. They jump off even more quickly than they jumped on. Last week the turds were lamenting the loss of Moorhead to become a HC.....today he is a moron.

Mark Richt had nine 10+ win seasons in 15 years at Georgia and was fired. Certainly, CJF isn't anywhere near the hot seat and shouldn't be, but the point is those willing to settle for less often do. And Georgia got tired of it.

Teams don't need fans who are only there during the wins and the good times. I always thought PSU fans were the most loyal and knowledgeable in college football. Our coaches and players deserve our support and encouragement as they bounce back and prepare to beat MSU. The prospect to be 11-1 is real and attainable. I'm not sneezing at that. Only idiots and fan boys look to lay blame for a 1 loss team. Fans cheer a pitcher who gives up the first hit in the 7th or 8th inning. I am going to celebrate what the Nittany Lions have and will achieve this year.

Take a deep breath and think about what you are saying...Franklin has this team on the brink of perennial Top 5 status (based upon recruiting and on-the field play) - also on the heels of Death Penalty type sanctions...and you are spewing nonsense about "settling"...we lost by 1 freaking point, on the road, to a more talented team, coached by one of the all-time great CFB coaches and you are are talking about settling? Give me a break!

Franklin has this team playing very well. And even if we stub our toe another time or two this year, that is beyond dispute. Do you think we are going to win every game? Get a grip. The loss stings, but hardly an embarrassment!

I proudly wear the scars of many years as a HS Coach. This is a what have you done for me lately business. People simply cannot fathom how gifted the coaches are at PSU. We are blessed to have them. There are things more important than winning and our coaches and players are among the very best in making us proud. An occasional loss should be an opportunity for all our fans to show appreciation for the efforts of our players and coaches. This is not the time for anyone to point fingers.

I get maybe you only come around on Game Day - that's cool. Happy to have you here. This loss is an embarrassment. People were happy to settle for the Rose Bowl last year because it was all about 2017. Now - we won't sniff the playoff this year, and certainly not next year or the year after. You have to make the most of your chances when you get them. Like others have said - losing by one isn't the issue; losing an 18 point lead is.

I'll be back here this week talking about MSU and what could have been but for now, not much positive out of this. We're closing the gap talent-wise, but that alone doesn't win games. We need to be able to adjust in-game when talent is equal and we've shown we can't do that to teams with similar or better talent.

I've been around FB as a player, coach and AD for around 55 years. I'll take Coach Richt to lead my team any day and twice on Sundays.

You really need to relax. Every person expressing disappointment that a game was lost that could've been won isn't calling for the coaches to be shown the door or failing to appreciate what they've done here.

Where have I seen this 'all or nothing' tribalism before?

Still a lot of football to be played.

And just because I don't post often does not mean I have not seen a PSU game or two in my life.

Embarrassment today? Get real! Lots of positives to carry away from this game. We are still in the middle of a great run - including some in-game adjustments to win against some good teams. We are not all the way there yet? Why are you writing off next year already (we need to keep battling this year).

News flash: Penn State will be better at every position next year than we are this year - less RB.

Penn State recruiting at Top5 (maybe even top 2-3 level).

Will we win them all? Nope. Neither will most anyone else. If you are going to fret a 1 point loss to Ohio State at the Shoe, you are setting yourself up for a lot of disappointment! But we will win more than our share and then some. Take a deep breath...the trend line is pointing up - big time!

Sorry, I don't answer for "the posters," nor do I keep track of what they've argued. I only speak for myself. If you think the coaches did a great job in the final 6 minutes of the game tonight, that's fine, we can differ.

The one point loss is a red herring. But, you're right.

Really, fans posting dissatisfaction with coaching that "resulted" in the first loss the the season. Novel. I saw an OSU dline that put a good old country whipping on our OL. Sometimes you simply meet someone who has more talent.

We lost 49-10 to UM last year and posters were blaming Franklin. Lose a close one, it's the coach's fault. Get blown out, it's the coach's fault. It kind of loses its credibility when posters constantly blame the coaches.

Exactly, will we win them all? No. How many teams do? I'll sign for 11-1 or 11-2 any and every year. We are blessed. I'd like to hear from anyone who expected us to be where we finished last year and where we are this year in 2012. Then I will call them liars.

Completely agree, we were outmanned on the OL and DL. It's a testament to our coaches that we were in a position where we had the game in hand despite that. That doesn't mean the poor coaching in the final few minutes is beyond reproach, especially where it was identical to the coaching that cost us the Rose Bowl.

You say pointing that out makes me/us "candy asses." I say the refusal to call that what it is is candy ass.

And no fear on the bandwagon getting roomier, I'll be just as into the MSU game next week as I was this one. Dissecting where we went wrong in a loss doesn't make me or anyone else any less of a fan, despite your assertions.

No one blamed Franklin for being completely outmanned at Michigan last year. And down to what - our last three LB's? Sometimes the coaches can be blamed and I think this is one of those times. Certainly, CJF or JoMo didn't drop any passes out there, but neither did our WR's - mostly because we never tried to throw to them (on first down).
