all the teams that litter the playoff discussions were pre-season fav's with a built in bias.. most thought we would be a game above 500.
You rarely get at chance to seize an opportunity, . and this team seized it, but the football gods skewered the dream. I'm just as proud of the team despite them falling short, they controlled the variables for the last 9 games.
Some say don't bother losing to Pitt and we are fine, but that is shortsighted. We simply were not near the team that we are now.. we have little top-end depth, and were injury bitten. An 8 team playoff would be a perfect scenario for both us and our opponent USC.
My key takeaway.. as we gain prominence and recruiting takes off we will never be that weak at the LOS like we were vs Wisky, UM, and Pitt.. as hard as our young weight-room negative (meaning they haven't had the years of lifting their opponents) played the LOS point of attack cost us big in the Pitt, UM, Wisky games. If we do this right, we will be in many future playoff conversations, and playing UM and tOSU every year will assure that one of us 3 heavyweights gets are our slot.-sg
